What do you find helps minimize the constant urge to buy?

1) taking a picture 1a) taking a screenshot 2) texting myself the link 3) adding details to my calendar for a future date. It works!!

Getting off social media completely has really helped me with impulse buying or getting FOMO around a certain purchase. It is crazy how much social media can really sway your wants and desires. Now I feel like I have more room to decide what I truly want and need. Love your content so much ❤️

Full honesty...I was just diagnosed with several mental health conditions, and in trying to find healing, I stumbled across your videos. I can't tell you how valuable your advice has been to me. I feel like you are in my head! Thank you so much for sharing your journey and what has helped you find inner peace. I have been compulsively buying things for as long as I can remember. Two closets full of clothes, expensive tech, planners, pens, kitchen gadgets, you name it, I have bought it and spent literal millions on things. This has led to the drive to work more overtime, achieve more, etc. and so much mental chaos and distress. I can only pray I can get to where you are. How did you retrain your brain to accept mental quiet?

Another marketing trick I've noticed is that it seems like everything I want to buy always says "only 2 left" after I put them in my cart, to try to make me feel like I'd better hurry and buy it now. But, when I empty the cart and come back another time, there's usually still "only 2 left." I don't fall for the sense of urgency trick anymore.

oh yes! Now that i think of it that happens to me the majority of when I buy things! They really do it all the time

It's so true, having less stuff makes you value what you have. And that we really only need one of each thing. I used to have a habit of "stocking up" so I wouldn't be panic buying. Now I am just more prepared. I was decluttering a drawer the other day that had this skincare serum new and unopened that I'd completely forgotten about. I had just bought another serum the other day because I thought I'd run out. I felt quite ashamed by that cos it held a mirror up to myself of what my spending habits used to be like, and the fact that I had so much rubbish that I couldn't even keep track of what I owned anymore. It's so freeing to be on this side of things.

Thank you for this!! As someone who struggles with compulsive buying and currently trying to pay of £16,000 of credit card debts!! I find the waiting 24- 48 hours now before I buy something helps, and then I end up forgetting about it or I cannot be bothered to go back to the store to buy it lol. You are very inspiring Xx
@jessicarothley4 ай бұрын
thank you! It's crazy how many things just holding off and waiting applies to, even things like feeling the need to look something up on my phone. If i just wait and igve it time the compulsion goes away!

Thanks, Jess! Minimizing the constant urge to buy by: moving & dramatically downsize cold weather & items that don't fit or I don't care for... Also to reduce my higher stress level to manage a vast wardrobe with packed closets, drawers & containers making it difficult & frustrating to get dressed! (I still have more than enough, though it is MUCH more manageable!) 😊❤

Yes the little things really do add up! I have so much stuff from little things I have purchased here and there over the years.

Considering how many work hours it takes to buy it. Definitely puts things in perspective. Also shopping with cash when it comes to fun money causes me to be more selective of how I ultimately spend. And I've been using a wish list for years now, really helps!! I even put things on the list that are bigger like vacations, specific lifestyle upgrade goals, etc and that helps me to weigh the smaller stuff. What do I want most vs what do I want now. Love your videos, thanks so much! ✨️🤍

The sense of urgency is why I need a break from op shopping. It's cheap and they really do dissappear fast cause there's only one so I end up buying things I don't end up wearing. Constantly donating and buying from the op shops. But I'm donating 2 bags today and limiting how often I go from now on. Only going to buy something that I can picture what it goes with, like at least 2 outfits I can make out of it. Otherwise I think I need to stick to "real stores" for a year. Where I can properly plan what I actually need to fill the gaps of my wardrobe.

There was a time when going to the mall began to give me anxiety . That’s when I made my career transition and had to cut frugal spending at all. And now when I can buy I lost interest at all. I like thrifting though , and must be careful to not overbuy just because it’s a good piece and it’s cheap

Just found your chanel and I love you! Everyone else all says the same kinds of things about saving money/minimalism etc but you somehow get to the real issue underneath it. One thing I have done is delete any apps on my phone where I might purchase something. Sometimes I just find myself scrolling for something to do. I got rid of the apps so now I have to do something else instead like watch KZbin videos 😅

Thank you, I just found your channel and I'm enjoying it a lot...it's come at just the right time. This might sound contrary to the video and this whole concept but it's not I promise. Where's your top from? I'm actually looking for a pair of pyjamas that have that low contrast pretty print with a bit of a textured edge like this and I never come across them. I've decluttered all my crazy pyjamas so just want a pair or two of lovely ones. Thanks 😊

I follow some beauty/skincare influencers on youtube and am always wanting to buy whatever the latest skin or haircare products they are mentioning. Then I end up with 3 facewashes, 3 moisturizers, etc. But when it comes to clothes, I'll wear the same stuff for 10 years😂
