Watched this video because I am interested in the breed and want to gain an understanding on their behaviour. Mostly all been positive with their general demeanour etc but got wind they can be destructive. You have mentioned exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy/ contented. I think I understand the crate training/ kong aspect, but when out and about what can we offer for further mental stimulation besides stopping at every gateway/ corner/ lamppost to sniff at the local ‘Doggy Gazette’ ? If we do get a new dog, even if it’s not a basset, we would like to do things right from the offset to hopefully 🤞 fingers crossed not really have any longterm issues like this. (I also understand a dog is a dog, and they will chew at something at some point when growing up)

This helped, thank you! I watched a few of your vids. I’m helping a friend of mine who has a Bassett. And I see the struggles we’re dealing with. Def wanna continue helping her, and make a good boy pet for the fam

We exercise our basset 2-3 times a day, probably an hour to an hour and half and still at night time when 7pm hits she starts going nuts and chewing out the couch :( Also when she goes outside she doesnt wanna go anywhere, its a struggle getting her to run around in the park, but as soon as she goes inside she has energy all of a sudden. I love my basset but it's been really difficult

Thanks for watching! It might be that she needs some more mental stimulation instead of physical. It might be worth looking into a kong or a foraging mat, something that will work her mind more than just het body. Hope that helps!
