Thank you for the people training. We all need trained to be the best person our dog deserves:). So true wanting to set them up for success with love and kindness. People don’t understand how much damage can be done with the wrong form of correction. You can completely lose the dogs natural happiness if done wrong. I don’t want my dog to be scared of me. Just respect and listen to me out of love and out of wanting to make me happy. That’s how you make a good dog. Your training seems to really show that. I love your videos. I have been on a KZbin marathon with your vids.

Even at 5 months, my pup loves to go for hands even if you are holding a toy, I’ve tried the couple of techniques and same with just kneeling tall and she will stop for a sec but will start to nip at clothes or anything her level (typically near areas where you don’t want to be bit) or she will get sassy and bark/ huff. Any advice?

Mr Will Atherton, KZbin threw one of your videos into my reccommended feed and I clicked on it fairly idly. I find your videos quite entertaining considering I dont have a dog. I find the behavioural principles very interesting and your passion and skill (plus awesome results) have rendered me unable to keep watching your videos. A friend of ours when we (me and my brother) were kids had 3 staffordshire terriers in our "career as kids", all 3 rescues. The first one used to scare me cause I was small and it used to have a thing about humping legs. Their next one was much softer in temperament (may have been spayed, the first may not have), and sometimes my dad would walk it when they went on holiday and it was a terrible puller. So was their third. I loved the second and the third, they were so kind, I was never even slightly scared of the second two. I think if I was to get a dog id go to my local shelter and look for a staffy. Im 42 now and a short while ago I looked after a friends small terrier type dog. I've known her a while and walked her for 5 days in a row. When I started she was all over the shop. Im fairly sure the owner is a positive only mindset type person and those staffys I loved have always made me think some correction is required. Our childhood friends staffys always pulled less after being walked by my dad for 5 days or so than at the start. Because this terrier type is small I could very easily control her and when i walked her i was using leash pressure but I can see from your videos the short measured jerk and application of baby voice/stern voice and even hand signals would be very powerful, ive literally watched the results. From having listened to you talking to your erstwhile colleague on some of your podcasts and the various video formats you do I have 2 questions that im particularly interested in your answers to because of what I consider to be your very balanced perspective on all aspects of dog ownership. 1) Face Licking. I've started reading reports of studies about antibiotic resistant bacteria in dogs and the statistically increased likelihood that owners also carry these bacteria. I kind of beleive that children eating worms help them build their immune system but i think antibiotic resistant bacteria is a seperate and more serious issue. Any thoughts ? 2) Somewhat dependant on the answer to the above. A raw food diet. In my mind there can be no doubt that if the above is an issue worthy of consideration this must also be. I feel like it might well be healthier/more natural for a dog but if you acknowledge the above do you acknowledge that a raw food diet plus allowing your dog to lick your face is an increased risk ? Thanks for the awesome vids

Thank you!!! Tried many other things but this works great for my Shih Tzu puppy!!! She doesn't respond to physical correction. She thinks it's a game and just charges in with more hand biting. But this "stopping the game" until she settles and then resuming the game worked great right away. I hope this will end the biting with daily training. And this makes training is fun.

We have a 14 week old staffy (picked him up at 12 weeks) who will use his grass outside when he is supervised but go to the bathroom elsewhere when we are not actively watching him. Right now we don't punish and redirect when we catch him going to the bathroom in the wrong spot and offer him LOTS of praise when he uses the grass but he is inconsistent. What can we do to improve this/make sure he uses the grass more than not?

This is a question that does not relate to a young puppy but will relate to my growing working dog. Airedale Terrier. From what height can a dog jump safely. 2 x its height? How does age relate to this? Also If I may be so bold. how far should a dog walk for each month of puppy to adulthood? Growing plates and all that. Any advice given will be most welcome.

Beautiful red fox! We just got ours on Saturday. He’s such a great learner! He’s already going into his crate on command. He’s a biter also, but 4/5 bites are gentle and playful. The 5th is usually him getting too excited and clamping down. Is it possible to only discipline the harder bites or a bite is a bite in the eyes of the dog?

Not only is it hard on me, but he hates them as well and squirms and I can't hold on so I'm not being effective. one of my dogs has a very wierd habit. The best I can do to describe it is the action they go into when their mothers returns from the hunt, but it isnt exactly that either, She goes up to any and all dogs in what appears to be a very submisive stance and whinces around the face of the other dogs end up postrating herslef belly up infront of the dog, allot of face licking is involved besides crying. Some dogs basiccally ignore her but others find it irritating and they growl at her. This makes her go into overdrive which sometimes brings on a bite from the other. She is the instigator and the other dog is just saying get out of my face, but she doesnt, She does it allot many times a day. I have no idea how to stop this behavior or understand it and it has gotten her into trouble on many occassions. I was hoping she would grow out of it but she is nearing her 1 year of age with no signs of stopping. HELP !!!

A puppy is harder than a baby and i have 3 kids. You have to supervise constantly and they bite and jump and pee and poop everywhere. My youngest is 4 almost 5 and still really too young. The puppy bites him more than anyone. My 10 year old is good with managing the puppy but i still cant leave her to watch him for long as he gets playful and starts going after her clothes. But definately wait until your youngest is 9 before getting a puppy. You have to take the puppy out every hour, your other kids need to be ok alone in the house. And all my freetime is gone which i had little of. My life revolves around the dog. I need my husband to get home to watch the puppy before i can make dinner, to watch the puppy while i put my youngest to bed. Puppy blues is a real thing. Puppies are so so hard and stressfull

Shiiiiit my doggy just loves biting so, I mean there is nothing he wont want to eat or chew, that includes hair he pulls from my carpet to every piece of food or treats you can think off, then my mate, who has the exact same dog and I mean right down to the coat pattern and breed, yet his won’t eat nearly any treats, doesn’t bite or eat absolutely anything, did when he was teething a bit, and this fellah has like no toys compared to mine, my guy still loves biting tho, it’s crazy tbh, we both raised the dogs the same yet his wants completely nothing to do with outside his house and mine couldn’t get out fast enough, loves the lead, loves exploring new places, jumping through streams and muddy places, not a single person is allowed walk past, even in the opposite side of the road, without saying hello or he genuinely gets sad for a few mins🤣🤣, his dog is the polar opposite, except with people, he does love people, but my fellah just goes bananas for everything and he definitely knows he’s not allowed bite too much, but I enjoy playing like that with my baby so he’s allowed a little

Do you have any advice for if your puppy is completely disinterested in the distraction?

This is what I need help with desperately. Her bites hurt so much and my kids are now getting scared as she chases them

Me too. Sometimes the distractions work but at least once a day. Nothing will work and my kids get scared and upset and so do I. What do I do in these desperate moments? I don't want to get it wrong.

@@beckymaddock6012 I desperately need answers 😭😭😭😭😭. She growled at my son today because he's being too rough but he's only little and sick of the dog hurting him. I don't want her to have a negative association with him

@@rebeccawilliams2410 I'm a first time dog owner so new to this. Today (so far! Still have her hyper evening to deal with). I was on teething alert. The moment I saw her about to nip. I said AH AH, gave her a toy thst was in my pocket and moved her away from where we were sat. Praised her alot, the moment she seemed calm and was chewing her toy instead. She still had few nippy moments but so far. Better than yesterday. 🤞🏼

Hi Will, I have recently got a blue heeler that I found out is deaf. Can you please offer any advice for getting her to stop biting or to stop chasing the indoor cats? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Brenda

The problem we are having is our puppy bites and no matter how much we say no! Or push her down or get her off us because she really bites! She can't get distracted. We have a 4 and 5 Yr old and they are getting scared to walk past her because she chases and bites at them or their clothes. Our pup is only 8 weeks old. Had her a few days but im worried about this chewing. I've tried redirection but she really is a biter and I'm not sure on our next steps. Any advice? Should we do the colar training like you did in that video with the older pup? If my dog was only as nippy as the little one in your video it would be ok. But she won't stop biting when she's in that moment. Hope someone can help x

@@rebeccawilliams2410 I am in the same boat as you. My new 8 week old puppy just keeps bitting and nibbling on fingers and clothes. I'm also losing my patience and getting annoyed and feel so bad about it because I know it's not the puppies fault it's mine. I am going to keep trying with a toy like in the video and let you know how I go.

cheat code: if you have a baby shark aka a gsd puppy shove a lemon in his mouth if he's driving you nuts and won't listen. let him bite that instead of your hand. they hate the taste.
