A lot of people watched till the end and didn’t get it how to stop pulling on leash, but ill tell you all an technique... When you start walking on leash if the dog starts to pull then you must stop walking and keeping tension on the leash till he come to your side, he must learn that there wont be tension if he stays by your side, and when he is by your side u must not be putting tension on the leash so he learn that is the “sweet spot”

Couldn't agree more. There was no tip how to solve it. I really think it stems by allowing them too much freedom off the lead when they are young. That's my conclusion after 4 Rotties....and now having very long arms!

Because my rottie is a puppy I don’t want to use prongs but do you think that’s a good idea for a puppy ? I think prongs are more for older dogs however you also said to not allow the behaviour in the first place. I try but my bf doesn’t do it makes it hard

Hi there, i love your videos. I have a one year old rescue Rottie. We got him at the beginning of January. He used to be quite easy to manage on a walk even though he used to jump quite a bit as hes very anxious. As the months have gone by hes filling out lovely but getting very hard for me to handle outside of the garden. We use a harness so that might not be helping. Im only 4ft 11 so you can guess why im struggling. My husband and son can manage him but we all work different shifts so sometimes its only me to walk him. He actually pulled me over last week but luckily it was on grass. Hope you can help.

My family had a boxer / lab mix. My brother and sister didn't think it was important to teach the dog to heel. So she pulled them everywhere, but not when she was with me.

I’ve been walking my female Rottweiler now for almost a year she is a rescue I don’t believe she was ever walked however it’s been a while and she still pulls I have found 1 way to stop her and that is by moving up her collar towards her ears she stops immediately

I have a rottie puppy and she pulls sometimes now… I don’t know if that means I’m making progress or does the behaviour completely stop. She pulls more with my boyfriend than me, but once he walks her I feel like I have to retrain her all over again. Sometimes she’s the greatest puppy listening to me and walking by my side or following me then others she pulls to the left like crazy and there is no stopping her even if I literally keep changing direction and go no where she still won’t listen lol

There is no magic trick to stop them pulling. Mine still pull when using a prong collar even, although less so. I've had 4 Rotties over time and I think the pulling was actually caused by me not lead walking them much when they were younger. I live semi rural and walk in the fields and all my dogs have had excellent recall so no need for a leash much of the time. However I've come to the conclusion that I have allowed them too much freedom and they start to hunt. When a situation arises and you need to leash them, that's when they pull because for one thing they wonder why you are leashing them and look around to see why but also they are still hunting and walking at the pace as if off the lead. I don't think its ever too late to teach a dog to walk nicely though and I'm doing more lead walking even in the fields now. The 'turn round and walking the other way' when they pull technique, in my experience, doesn't work, well not in the short term anyway. They come to heel but within seconds they are off pulling again but I guess you just have to keep going

Supposedly, Rotts were used to pull meat carts to market for German butchers, so it seems that pulling is deeply engrained in their minds. Potential owners should be very, very aware of this. I am concerned because I want to actually harness (both literally and figuratively) this aspect of Rott behavior for search and rescue, should my future dog be adept at trailing or tracking for live missing persons. A pulling search dog is an eager dog who is hellbent on finding his person! But at the same time, when not working, I would want that dog to chill and heel. Ultimately, I don't want to confuse him by expecting such different things. Typically, search K9 handlers use different leads and harnesses/collars for working vs. general walking. But I would expect my dog to learn different behavior for different activities, rather than having to carry around a bunch of different "crutches".

This video should be pulled down under the guise of being misleading. I don't need it. But I was interested in what I could possibly learn. They din't teach anyone a damn thing. Letting people know the behaviors rotties display doesn't teach anything. Rottie owner are well aware. Demonstrations on how to stop, introduce or shore up behaviors regarding pulling is what was expected. But as usual people with a camera and a mouth use them because they now can. If anyone would like some tips, touch base with me. I'll offer up some ideas you can try. And with patience you will succeed.

I've always used the choke chain to teach them to heel. You don't actually choke them with it, the click sound it makes reminds the dog.
