Most of what I have are fat quarters & fat halves. I use comic book boards and wrap them like you would bolts of fabric with plastic fabric clips, then I slide them into sheet protectors to avoid the potential color rub from some of the over-dyed fabrics. I have them filed in fabric covered file boxes sorted by count, color, then type (linen/aida/lugana). I just tend to toss the smaller bits from cut offs or ornament cuts into a bucket. I love this idea for storing my smaller pieces of fabric. Lucky for me I have some recently emptied binders and a ton of sheet protectors. I know what I’ll be working on this weekend. 🤩

these binders are so cool - love that you recycling too! I have a google sheet with all my fabrics, also organised by count, colour, size and brand / where I purchased. Then I keep them together in drawers. Once I use a fabric I remove it from my google sheet. but you are definitely right that buying supplies and using them are two different hobbies!!

Yeah, new bigger binders would be easier, but reusing these ones is just so appealing from a waste perspective but also because they're like little time capsules into the mind of my girlfriend as a teenager!

Love your videos!! So easy to understand and follow. Relatively new cross stitcher here, and learning lots from your videos. I've got lots of small projects that I've done, have been putting them in frames, but quickly running out of wall space to display them all. I would love to see you do a video on how to put a cross stitch project onto a pillow or other item. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion!!

Love this idea!! I'm going to take this system on board and sort my fabric into folders. Just the love the organization of fabric in folders and no idea why I've never seen anyone with this idea before. Thanks so much for sharing!!😍🧵🪡

That is a great syatem for storing fabric! I wish Id thought of it. I bought inexpensive drawer organizers from a dollar store. I think they're designed to hold folded pants. I stuck a piece of cardstock in each space labeling the count. I needed 2. They fit on a shelf. And it works for me! Good job supervising, Nugget!

What a great idea! I just got a 4 pak od binders to use for some patterns. But I will use them for my fabric. Right now I have to lug a box out of another pile of boxes. Can't wait to try it.❤

This is why it's essential for me that the storage/organization system saves me work. If it's just extra labor, I won't do it. I have learned that people without ADHD use "organize" and "tidy" interchangeably. So my partner doesn't understand that if she asks me to organize something, she's asking me to perform a task that will probably take me an entire day, if not more. Tidying, on the other hand, is all about how something looks and not how useable it is. So tidying gets undone immediately the first time I need to use any of the tidied items. But it can be done in 10 minutes!

Hi there Ford and Nugget. For my cross stitch fabric, I fold the fabric and put it in a closable sandwich bag. I either keep the tag in the bag facing outward or use a Sharpie to write everything on the bag (Make a mistake? Use alcohol or hand sanitizer to wipe it off and start over). I have everything organized by fabric count and in a plastic stackable boxes (from Joann's - 15" x 8 Craft Case With Carrying Handle by Top Notch - on sale as of 10/7/24) I also use the 6" x 15" Deep Craft Case With Carrying Handle by Top Notch. Thanks for sharing. Take care!

What a good idea! Mine is kind of just stacked on a shelf which is not convenient and gets disorganized, quickly.

My cat was sleeping on my lap, then she looked up and saw Nugget. Suddenly I had a cat nose to nose with my monitor! Nugget is an excellent supervisor, says my cat. (And I love the binder idea for fabric, mine are just thrown in a bin right now.)

Thanks for sharing your system! I may be moving to something similar in the near future, as I do the exact same thing with my quilt patterns. Right now, I have my stash organized by type and count, but they are in a stack in a vinyl bag. I keep the stack vertical within the bag so that I can flip through it, and I keep the labels of what they are in the top right corner so that I can tell what they are as I flip. My stack is starting to get a little too unwieldy for that now.

I like this idea. I don’t really have much fabric as I’m not usually sure what to buy. What I would like a vid on is storage of patterns … do people keep patterns after they’ve finished, store them, give them away. I can see storing them the same way as the fabric I guess? I just started cross stitching about six months ago so the only thing I have in abundance is floss and I have the storage for that nailed down. And while I don’t have a lot of finished works, around 5, I’m not sure what to do with them if I’m not going to frame them. Any thoughts or potential vids?
