But I don't understand need to do in both sides?
@RoxusRemo Жыл бұрын
@@juanojeda8069 You need to do it to both sides to keep the alignment. So in his case, car was drifting right..so need to adjust the toe left.. so he shortened drivers side rod (this pulls the rear of the wheel closer so it turns the whole wheel left and then extend/lengthen the passenger side so it 'pushes' the rear of the wheel which turns the wheel left also.
@microbrientube9 ай бұрын
@@RoxusRemowait I think I see how I fucked up. So “opposite” turn directions, is actually the same, because the rods are pointing opposite directions. So clockwise one side, counterclockwise the other means they both get turned away from you (pushed over) or turned toward you (pulled under) if you’re perpendicular to them

Thanks man, great video! I had the same problem on my 2012 Camry only opposite of your Audi. My front wheels needed to go slightly to the right. I did one full turn on the adjusters like in your video. But, in my case it was just a bit too far and steering wheel was slightly off in the other direction. So, ended up having to do the adjustments a second time. I returned the adjusters a bit back so that they were both exactly 1/2 turn from where they were originally. 2nd test drive and sucess! Straight track and straight wheel. Kinda sucked having to do it twice but I guess it's trial and error with different vehicles. Still saved me alot of money and hassle with alignment shop! Wanted to say thank you! Like you and many others I had an alignment done after having my rack and pinion changed out in my 2012 Toyota Tundra. Like yours my steering wheel was slightly cocked right driving me nuts but not so much i felt like spending half a day at the dealership correcting it. Only difference between my truck and your Audi, much larger tie rods and they were kinda tough to get that nut loose. One small suggestion to others. I started with a half turn as opposed to a full turn. After test driving the steering wheel was cocked the other direction. Jacked the truck back up and reversed it a 1/4 turn and it’s now perfect. 1 full turn is quite a bit depending on the vehicle and how off the steering wheel is. May want to start with a 1/2 turn and go from there. Thanks again, great video!

Installed a new tie rod because of rattling going over bumps, and vibration when braking at higher speed, mechanic couldn’t figure out what was causing it, so I replaced the tie rod myself and was able to get the steering wheel back to straight again from being off centered. Holding it at 12:10 to drive straight was killing me. So I adjusted the set screw and within a couple try’s, my wheel was straight again. Do you turn the wrench the same direction when adjusting the tie rod for both sides? Or do you have to do the opposite direction?
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
It will depend on the threads. Look at the direction they go and determine if you need to expand the tie rod or make it smaller. One side will need to be expanded, the other side will need to be made smaller
@TimpBizkit6 ай бұрын
The one on the Fiesta my mum gave me is off more than that. Also I thought you could just unscrew the wheel and move it lol. Either that or it sat on some spline to prevent slippage and I could remove it and move it a couple of teeth and put it back on.

How do service shops not know about this? Just mindblowing

Unless Audi has some different threads, I did that on my 2016 Ford Focus and my crookedness was similar to the one depicted in the video but all I needed was just 1/8 of a turn to make the steering wheel straight so one full turn I agree seems to be pretty drastic.
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
Like I mentioned in the video it will depend on your car. Not every car will be the exact same amount of turns. On my Supra I had this issue and did about 1/4th turn. So trial and error until you get it right
@Zizoproduction318 ай бұрын
If the rod is ”in front ” of the wheel its the other way around, but thumbs up great explaining it worked !!🤭😁
@BrosFOURRSpeed8 ай бұрын
Yeah just look at which way your threads go and either shorten or lengthen the tie rod end of the desired direction to turn the wheel. I did this on my Supra and everything was the opposite way from the S3

Just did my tie rod ends. My steering wheel is off at like 2/3 oclock. Im surprised its off so much considering i made sure it was the same as it was
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Are the new tires rods the same length? Might just need more adjustments.

I have 2024 GTI and I got 3 alignments already but my steering wheel is always going towards the left when I’m on the high way the dealership told me it’s the road but I been on good roads and still the same result. My question is if I do this adjustment would this affect how the my car drives and feels on the road?
@BrosFOURRSpeedАй бұрын
If you've had an alignment and you know everything is straight, this is the perfect adjustment to dial in your steering wheel then!
@1family4738 ай бұрын
I have had this issue recently but some things make sense like if it’s set to factory setting at a dealership but the steering is off it might be worn bushes or shocks but you end up having to replace everything to get it perfect lower arms bushes top mounts 😞 the other is to take the wheel off and adjust it that way 🤦

Just did this! Thanks for the video. It only took 1/4 turn to move my Volvo steering wheel about 5-10 degrees!. Had to do the procedure 2x. But I am happier now. Do you think the alignment will be off ?
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
Nice! As long as you did equal turns each side it shouldn't effect the alignment. Provided your alignment was already good.

Which tie rod do I have to adjust if the steering wheel is to the right when I'm driving straight and the steering wheel is slightly leaning to the right halfway
@BrosFOURRSpeed5 күн бұрын
Both. Like I showed in the video. If you only do one, you'll mess up your alignment and make things worse. Here an updated video I made on our RS3 where I might explain it better kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6DPpamhaqecnqs

Thanks for the vid, so.. ive had my bmw 428 alignment done two time now and the shop says perfectly fine. However 95% of the time im driving with right hand down, you can see the padel shifer are a perfect reference for this. When i let go of the wheel the car tracks fairly straight but wheel remains kinked to the right. Like you say is driving me insane. Any ideas?? Cheers.

Had my fronts done steering wheel is still a little bit out to the left garage has told me have the backs done now 😮
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
You should have a full alignment done first. Then if your wheel isn't straight, adjust the front till its spot on
@DJMIGHTYZION11 ай бұрын
@@BrosFOURRSpeedhi I had the backs and fronts done on a hunter alignment system steering wheel, still not straight, car was ok until I had two front wheel bearings replaced the mechanic said he only took off the hubs
@BrosFOURRSpeed11 ай бұрын
@@DJMIGHTYZION hmm, you could try this. But you never know if they made any minor adjustments to the connections to the hub that could have affected alignment.

I gotta try this I have the same problem. For the driver's side I need it to be going left so I turn it clockwise or anti clockwise. The passenger it clockwise.
@BrosFOURRSpeed Жыл бұрын
Make sure each side gets the opposite turn direction. One side will need to be shortened and the other will need to be lengthened.

Super helpful video, is it possible to do this without removing the wheels if you rotate them fully to the side to create an opening?

If you can reach the tie rod ends. I did this on my Supra with ought taking the wheels off. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqe5nZWbetCJnJo
