HOW TO STRENGTHEN HYPEREXTENDED KNEES? STANDING AWARENESS EXERCISES AT CORE THERAPY & PILATES // Stephen Dunn, Holistic Physical Therapist, teaches an exercise with a theraband to help stand with straighter knees. A common problem we treat at CORE is knee pain and frequently it comes from hyperextended knees. The people that have hyperextended knees are called hyper-mobile and have a real hard time standing with the knees straight instead of hyperextended. Improving strength is important, but working on awareness is vital. This knee problem is common in dancers, especially young dancers and athletes.

Hi, I have this exact problem, just tried this exercise and it felt great. Do you have any suggestions for reps and sets for each position? And how long does it usually take for a client with the same problem to get rid of it when doing the exercise regularly? Great video! Thanks!

Im a regular skateboarder and runner, but I also have these kind of knees and i find myself "locking" them often when I stand up. Anyway, some days I randomly get small discomfort pain from one specific knee(right knee), im wondering if overextended knees can overtime cause discomfort? or ostheo arthritis?

Hyperextended knees can cause pain and typically occurs around the front of the knee.

Hi, at 5:50 the lady in the back says she used to have hyperextented knees but now she can't hyperextend anymore. Did she only changed the way she was walking around and standing, or did she do some additional exercices with a band like in the video ?
@pilatesaustintexas512
@pilatesaustintexas512 4 жыл бұрын
She did lots of Pilates exercises with emphasis on not hyperextnding. With footwork on the Pilates Reformer it is veruy easy to just slam the knees back into hyperextension. Its the mental side of Pilates that teacxhes awareness and that is how she learned to not hyperextend.

Hi I have patellofemoral syndrome and hyperextended knee at the same time, does this excercise work for me? How how does it take to fix the hypertension knee if I do the excercise in the video everyday?
@pilatesaustintexas512
@pilatesaustintexas512 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Knee hyperextension is mostly a structural difference, which is not reversible most of the time. But you can improve your motor control and avoid stressing your knee into that end-range position through exercises and stability training. Patellofemoral syndrome can be due to many different factors--hips, pelvis, feet, ankles or even your spine. The exercises may help. But we strongly suggest you to see a qualified healthcare provider for medical advice specific to your condition.

I was sleeping with my legs pretty straight one night and I woke up to my knees super flexible, unstable and buckles back when I walk. Also my knees cap is super relaxed, movable and drops down when I'm standing (feels like how my knee caps are when my leg is straight and relaxed). Did I injure it in my sleep, I have no pain but I can't walk well at all it feels so unstable?
