One correction: 'commercial' does not just mean making money it also means accepting any type of compensation for flying the drone.... and as I said below... this guy gives you great information of what you need to do to study and pass the test.

My first drone is due to arrive in the mail today. I just recently realized that I would need a license to legally post videos to my KZbin channel, but I don’t what to spent a bunch of money on an online course. Absolutely good information,,, Test is tough.... and you need to study and study hard for it. I just took the test and barely skimmed by.... sectional charts are very important as well as weather and the rest....
@robertfagan38767 жыл бұрын
Your info/links helped me quite a bit. Going into the test, I felt very confident I could get a high 90, but still missed 11 questions. They have some that I never heard of and really have nothing to do with what they are certifying you for...like what angle is it when a fixed wing plane might feel it's turn is "significantly" affecting it's load? You have to know what the FAA feels is significant. A couple about the minutia of the 107 legalese (UNDER 55 lbs!!! not up to 55 lbs.)...but over all I would say 30-40 percent on Sectional charts and knowing which numbers are AGL/MSL...another 20-25 percent on weather...those were the most tricky because often there were two right answers you just had to get the righter one. :-) And then a bunch on drinking,drugs and dangerous mind frames. I would say I educated guess on about a 1/3 of the test and came out with about 50-50 on them. Your info though was key...I actually got right a couple of questions that appeared to be completely wrong only because I practiced the tests you linked to and they had those exact same questions and while I got them wrong on the practice, I remembered the right answers when I saw them on the real test. So practice practice the practice tests. Thanks again Matt!

Glad I saw this, a couple years ago I was interested in flying a drone commercially and checked on it, the FAA saying you had to be a Pilot downed that idea for me. It was all confusing and seemed a pretty expensive venture. I wanted to do it right but no way did I have the time nor monies to put into it.
@whoismatt8 жыл бұрын
Yeah they have simplified the process a lot, now that you don't need to be a full fledged pilot to fly a drone. I would highly recommend taking the test. :D
@simongentry7 жыл бұрын
thank you Matt - it's important for your viewers to know they must have this license to be a commercial aerial sUAS videographer / cinematographer / photographer - a ton of people have no respect for the work behind getting the license or why the FAA wants safe pilots in an already busy airspace. even casey is under investigation. ask any commercial truck driver about their license and you'll see getting paid for something that seems straight forward requires considerable planning, and awareness. safety comes first - for you, your client and for anyone in the vicinity. understanding which airspace you can fly in and when. making sure your client knows the difference between a guy/gal with a drone and an FAA licensed commercial sUAS pilot and the responsibilities included.

Matt, okay so bear with me. I've been making videos for years, just for myself and my friends when we go on trips and what not; and just recently I've tapped into a a business model that I didn't know existed. I started a new job in sales, and with that I started making videos and commercials. It's exploded. I've had so many people contact me for commercials, I can't accept all the offers, which has been SUPER COOL. So, in saying that; I've had 4-5 couples contact me, which all they proposals were pretty much the same. "James, we want you to shoot our wedding. You're super fun, we love your work and how you edit, and how you've done other weddings in the past" So, I've got 5 weddings booked over the next few months. I jumped off the ledge not really knowing what to expect, as I literally didn't know people GOT PAID to shoot wedding videos until I youtube'd it after accepting my first wedding lol I've spent the last few weeks researching, and working on my techniques and videos; and I came across your videos a few weeks ago. Your wedding videography videos are seriously some of the best I've found ANYWHERE. Technique, strategies, skills, you cover it all and make it easy. So the reason I'm commenting this on, THIS specific video is because I just ordered a Drone lol and have been researching getting certified......and BAM, KZbin recommends this video from you. I wanted to tel you dude, thank you. Your channel is A1, amazing. All Around fantastic. Keep up the good work man. Your'e the bomb. Do you have a Facebook page or Instagram?
