There I am at Cincinnati Comic Expo last year, waiting in line nearly 90 minutes for Chris Claremont. I have three copies of Wolverine: No Exit that arrived at my house late the night before with the USPS driver actually coming back after dark to deliver the "missed" package. It's a nothing book, but it's by both Claremont and Larry Hama who is also at the Expo and I want to get the books signed by them both. They books are perfect and I'm feeling pretty excited. I hand Clarmeont the books and he proceeds to flip through them and hold them up like storytime to the crowd talking about them. And there are the books, flopping about, pages hastily turned as Claremont waxes on. Needless to say that I was shocked they cam back 9.8s. Another great and helpful video, Bryan.

Don't discount the importance of Declared Value. Some books go up greatly in value while they are sitting at CGC. They lost a couple books (Secret Wars) that are now worth much more than I put in value. They sent me a check but doesn't make up for the loss. I have been overvaluing now. Thanks for calling this out Bryan.

After my newsstand swap out at the Bagley signing I'll always over value my books. They were offering me declared value which was $250 on a $700+ book. As it was my first time submitting I declared the value as a raw book not knowing I should value the book at what I believe the grade would be.... so I got stuck with a 9.0 lethal protector #1 direct instead of the 9.8 newsstand edition I submitted.. and I wasn't getting reimbursed for the signing fee if I took the buyout... the lady told me they dont distinguish between newsstand and direct....I guess it's a lesson learned lol. My second submission was waaay better! sent 10 books in got all the right books back and my grades were spot on I was very happy.

Maybe I missed it, but where do I enter key appearance notes etc.? Do they do this automatically without fail, or should I make sure I let them know it’s a key or first appearance for every book? Like, leave a note in the box I ship them in? Sorry, I’ve literally never done this before and I’m overwhelmed with all the info haha.
@BrysComics Жыл бұрын
They decide what notes get put on the label…a note with your sub wouldn’t hurt but don’t expect them to put everything on the label…

Great video! Have a couple questions. So you don’t tape the bags the comics are in closed? About how many regular comics can a gemini hold? If you don’t have a box from cgc to start with what / how do you use or get one? I’m in Canada and I know that adds money for everything. My local place will do 75$ Canadian, including a press per book. I have hundreds that need to be graded.
@pingadol1555 Жыл бұрын
So you don’t tape the bags the comics are in closed? This was my question too.
@BrysComics Жыл бұрын
For low value modern books I don’t tape the bags, they are sealed up well In the paper bag and CGC is going to open them again soon enough…never had a problem. You can fit 10 regular books comfortably in a Gemini, sometime more depending on the issue. $75 per book with a press is really pricey, I think it would be cheaper to go through CGC (at $75 I think I would opt for CCS)
@sadbttru Жыл бұрын
@@BrysComics thanks. I’m old school collector starting in 84 and just now realize all I’ll leave behind to my family is a burden so I want to start grading books but know that I need to press most books first

Hey so I have a question I submitted some books for the first time to CGC I'm EXTREMELY happy with most of the grades..but 2 books I know were pretty high grade expected 9.6's or 9.4 at worst 9.2 9.0 since my first time not sure how harsh, but these books got 7.0 with grader notes bends to cover & creasing to the cover which I know weren't there at all & doubt it happened during shipping because not only did I pack them well but they were in the middle of the pack between a few 9.9's 👍, my question is what steps do i take since i believe they were damaged along the process ? Also I haven't gotten them back yet I looked at the grade on the website. Thanks in advance

I like to grade pc covers for me it doesn’t have to be a highly sought after book if I like it and want to protect it I’ll grade it

@bryscomics Do you tape the individual comic bags closed? I’ve seen different vloggers say do and some say don’t.

No because I don’t want them to wrestle with the tape and damage the book
