What do you do from Mount when a person goes T Rex with their arms?
If you're not sure what I mean by that.T Rex is when the person starts defending the Mount position by keeping their arms super tucked in tight. Which makes it hard to find the submission.
In this video I share a simple option I like using from the Mount position in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu when the person is keeping their arms tight.
I show the basic setup which is used to weaken their Mount escape by taking away their dominant arm. Then from there working on progressively isolating their arm to that it can be attacked.
Even if you're not a fan of the Armbar. You can use the setup for numerous submissions from Mount in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
Everything from Keylocks to Arm Triangle chokes.
Hopefully if you are struggling with finding the submission from Mount because of a person's tight arm defense. The setup and technique in this video will help!
Thanks for watching!

Hi man! First off, I've got to say I love your channel and I have gotten so much from your drilling and detail videos. My question is... When their arm is trapped between your head and your shoulder.. is there an inverted arm bar there? Maybe posting on your head and pulling in? The reason I ask is my favorite arm bar is from top side control when you step over their head and have their arm trapped in the same place between your head and shoulder... would be great to have another high percentage setup for that! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and congrats on your win! PS - Is your fight online somewhere?

Hey Chewie, Great vid once again. I have a question, I'm a white belt that has been training for about 4 months and I'm loving it but are there ways to improve Jiu-jitsu while I'm not able to train. at this moment I have a good amount of free time and was spending quite a bit of it in rolling and practice until I decided on being an idiot and I sprained my hand pretty badly (and I'm probably out for 4-6 weeks before I can go full rolling again) are there things I can do to improve my game while I'm recovering. because at this point I'm just browsing youtube for clips and hating myself for not being able to go out there and use all the great tips and tricks I'm seeing. Thanks and keep up the nice work

What are good steps for when a person keeps your second leg from coming over their head for an arm bar? Happens in S-mount, side control, turtle attack all the time for some reason. Thanks for the great content!

So I have a question slash request I was wondering if you and your brother could do a little sparring rolling session and then do a video playback and do a commentary I want to know as a white belt, a fairly new white belt what goes through your mind and fast your offence/ defence reaction time is . When I rolled with our purple belt instructor to see if I could get signed off or where I was in my rolling abilities I found I was lost when he laid there I mean I tried to do Kimura and a guillotine a part of me wanted to have the respect and didn't want to put any hard pressure to his throat it's a really weird thing to know your limitations in the gym. And then also maybe do every belt a rolling session with them and they can commentate what they were trying to do on their commentaries hopefully this all makes sense man I'm texting to speech to make it easier. It would be interesting to see how people's different experiences/ levels see jujitsu from white belt all the way up to Black Belt would be cool to see the legit differences between brown and blue or Advanced White and early blue belt things like that.

This is useful, I often struggle with thinking of good approaches in mount. I also have a question. I have only been training for nearly 2 months. My problem stems from being a 5'4 105 pound female (not very strong) training and grappling with much larger (150lbs+) and much more experienced guys. I struggle immensely with trying to maintain my position and quickly find they are in mount, I'm in their guard, they break my mount and guard easier etc. Being small my bridge height and strength doesn't allow me to find a way out of it. What are some ways I can improve my performance against bigger and stronger opponents?

I'm no expert (blue belt) but being a somewhat smaller and older dude myself, when I mount I will cross my ankles behind their butt then stongly arch upwards with my back and core muscles. This will make me feel like a million pounds to my opponent. I do like to underhook the head but I ve found more expereinced and stronger guys will still be able to sweep. So I like to put my arms out wide to base and stay here heavy till I drain their energy and I feel they have accepted the position. Then I will underhook the head and start to attack or transition to high mount then to S-mount.

Daniel Cho That could be effective at sustaining my mount, from there though I also find it really hard to go for a submission, Arm bars and kimuras are hard because they can easily break my grip (small hands), resist pinning or me moving their arm into place etc. If my weight is on their torso then shifting that to their arm is a recipe for a sweep (they can sweep me like a broom)

You ve only been training two months right? To me, sounds like you are doing awesome with the physical atributes you have. I say this b/c you are already playing with armbars and kimuras and dominat positions like mount. In my novice opinion, people who cannot use dominating strength or power MUST rely on very good technique emphazing the small details that are often the difference between getting a tap or losing the position. I would suggest work on fine tuning details of arm bar and kimuras. For example, in armbars, stay connected to arm, pinch knees together (super important), dont just flop backwards, etc... Bottom line, sounds like you are doing well esp for only two months, I suggest keep training and good luck.

smiley to keep the mount, stay low on his body and put your arms out on the mat, even if you are not very heavy put your hooks in their legs amd spread you arms on the floor, extending them. You will have a much stronger mount, your arms will be away amd they won't be able to do the trap and roll. for the guard, try to bring them down and not let them work on your legs.But don't worry, if you lose, if you get submitted a lot of times, you learn. That's how I improved a lot! By winning, you don't learn a lot. Time will do it, don't worry. If you want some great advices, go to the Gracie Breakdown channel, it helps a lot.

Thanks for making these videos! I have a question. I've been training twice a week with my friend in our homes for 4 months after doing some training years ago, got floor pads and want to learn no gi. He is always training for something in the decade I've known him, competed in boxing, basement fight clubs in high school etc and is a pretty good white belt in BJJ. He did a month or 2 going in 6 days a week, and trained off and on while in the Navy. We do want to start going to our local 10th planet gym, but to save some money and maximize our time, our goal is to not join a gym until we're fairly confident we'll get our blue belts within a few of months of joining the gym. What should we know/when is it time to go to a gym to finalize our learning and test for a blue belt? Will we be looked down on by the instructor for trying to skip most of white belt with 1 on 1 training? Should we learn leg locks knowing that those will help us beat a lot of white belts? I know is a big question. Have a great day!

Hey Nate, like Riley said going to the gym is going to be the fastest and easiest way to learn. If youre going to a 10th planet, I can give you a couple tips. #1: Join the 10P Nibiru forums ($4.99/month) and watch the "Mastering the System" videos. Theres over a hundred hour-long videos. There may be some non bjj content in them but you can fast forward through those parts. #2: I think you can watch the daily warmups (A B C D E F G H, etc) for free, which will help out a lot in learning the 10th planet system. #3: Also, see if you are allowed to go to the open roll days where you can roll with other white belts without paying for a membership. #4: Might be worth it to get a couple private lessons to make sure your techniques are correct, if you do decide to train with your friend.
@TheFacesZ31

As already said. Join first. It will give you a better idea of what to work on and how to work at home. This will help keep you from forming bad habits. You can then train at home with your buddy all you want as well since you already have the mats. Just make sure that you're paying attention to your body and not over training. A home gym and training partner is a great tool to have, but it can't replace a good instructor by any measure.

Hey guys, I appreciate the responses, but I know most of what you're telling me and none of you answered my questions: What should we know/when is it time to go to a gym to finalize our learning and test for a blue belt? Will we be looked down on by the instructor for trying to skip most of white belt with 1 on 1 training? Should we learn leg locks knowing that those will help us beat a lot of white belts? Also, and no offense, but I didn't ask the internet, I asked the guy who makes KZbin videos answering BJJ questions. It's obvious that a gym is better, it's obvious that an instructor will be better than a good white belt, but we've made those choices already, the question is how to advance the way we chose to. One answer is "Nate, you're a stubborn idiot and I no longer want to help you" and that is fine. Have a great day guys :D
@TheFacesZ31
@TheFacesZ31 7 жыл бұрын
Okay in that case, that isn't really how it works. You may find a gym willing to let you just test, but honestly i don't think you're going to get top that point just rolling with another white belt.
