PIP's are meant to mainly gather evidence to fire you down the road, especially when your boss does not like you as a worker or person. Get out before you have to check YES on the job application under Asked to Resign.

Happened to me. My boss wanted to put me on PIP and I got to know about it earlier. I resigned and still there was a plan to continue with performance improvement plan during my notice period (which is ridiculous). It’s clear to me it wasn’t really about helping me out. Some bosses are so selfish they uses PIP to sack people.

I’ve been placed on a PIP today…first time ever and I LOVE the company I work for! So I’ll be putting in 1000% from now on and hopefully I survive it 🤞🏽 My next review is May 2nd so I’ll update then. And that’s a good idea! I’ll be asking my boss and HR for weekly updates on my progress from now, up until the next review date. Update: I had my review and unfortunately got let go. The good news is I start my new job in a couple of weeks and it pays more. 😅

@@nellywellyful yeah, I updated my comment earlier this month. They let me go but I’m happy it happened because it was for the best. The stress and pressure from being placed on the PIP was starting to take a toll on me mentally, physically, and emotionally. To cope with this, I started drinking every night. I should’ve also took it as a sign to start looking for another job as soon as I was placed on the PIP and also when my coworkers started quitting left and right. So I was also doing the work of multiple people to add to this stress. But as I started in my comment, I found another job a few days after getting let go. And I’m also back in school for a career change. 😄 Everything happens for a reason because when one door closes, another door opens 😌

@@honeybunchesofno You have a good outlook and I wish you the best. If other heads rolled, then they likely did what they did to downsize the workforce without incurring the increase in paying into unemployment that layoffs would have cost them. I'm guessing you weren't the only one they "PIPed."

Tony, great video. Great meeting you briefly at In2Risk 2022. Great advice. Proud to admit in my career I have been downsized, survived a couple PIPs, been fired and have survived. My advice would be the same as yours. Talk to a colleague or a manager you don't report to for candid advice. Get finances in order, start job hunting if you come to the conclusion the job is not for you.

I am being put on a PIP on Wednesday. Been with the company 13 years, 2 in the current role. Over the last 6-9 months, I have had accuracy issues (FP&A role) and I am currently in counseling and moving toward being treated for ADD as well. My 2nd (and hopefully final :)) child is due in a week and I am terrified as I am the only one working in the household. This was great advice to get started. Thank you.

I was put on a PIP once and I knew it was time to move on. On the same week, I was pulled up for failing to do a task properly (which was on the PIP). It was bullshit imo, the task I failed was a complete set up. The HR person (btw which is a total conflict of interest) called my desk putting on the worst British accent, pretending to be a difficult client and gave me a hard time. It was a bullshit scenario where I wasn't going to deliver the right action. I believe that call was a set up. It was designed for me to fail.

I got placed on a PIP last week and man the feeling of failure is very much with me. I have told myself that I want i to beat it, and I am giving my interactions my all. Not only that, but I am still making some errors and I hope I will rectify them. I really don't have the best relationship with the managerial team, but I can't say that the PIP s targetted as my performance has been diving for some reason. In as mush as the PIP can be an early sign that I need to level up or leave, I have been planning to leave the work employment and want to leave behind a good performance and with the feeling that I did my best. Thanks for the feedback I will look up someone and share some of the PIP burden and maybe look for some support, I have come with a support mechanism at work, will also look for another support frame outside work.

Told them their reasons given for the PIP were nonsense with no validity. Asked for evidence and none could be given. Through email evidence I had, I proved the reasons given had no substance. They still wanted to go ahead with the PIP. I took a grievance complaint against them. Won the battle. Left with a reasonable severance rather than nothing and a tarnished reputation. My face didn't fit with the new American asset strippers. The UK business has now been closed down with the loss of around a 1000 jobs gone. Local Council has lost out on Business rates. HM Treasury lost out on Tax. And the Consumer now no longer has a range of good UK products to buy.

Also my manager kept asking to put additional items which is not from standard format but from his brain. As you can imagine, this caused constant dely of my work. Then suddenly my manager pin pointed me as under performer. Now sure what I will discuss with HR person on next Monday. I might need to revise my resume...

I just got put on a pip this week. I started this job in January and it’s a completely new industry. Looking at the goals they’re objective. To track progress I’m creating a spreadsheet to document progress each day of the week. I informed the boss of this and essentially have taken charge. She said great and can we check in tomorrow? I said sure. I don’t trust anything fully. I can return to the classroom so I’m just cautiously optimistic. Here’s something odd. My job title. I was hired as a technical trainer but she kept insisting Senior. There are individuals with more technical background than myself who are junior level. It just makes no sense so she’s telling me I need to perform at senior level. Anyway, do you think my actions of this kind of documentation will be effective? Any other advice?

I would GTFO. If you have no/less technical experience than Junior Trainers they may have misplaced you and are now correcting their mistake. The fact HR wants to meet so soon is also suspicious. I would start looking for a new job and get out of that place. Always remember. Never forget. HR, no matter how nice they seem, are never never never never never never never ever, your friend. Always remember they are agents of the company and not the employee.

I am on PIP due to attention to details and was put on it at a bad timing where the company is going thru policy changes. Everyone is pardon for their error rating due to the change but im not sure if Im included as I am on PIP have been on it for 2 months but has not been improving. I feel like they have picked me on the tiniest details that does not even affect the outcome, but to them any discrepency is an error. i feel trapped and punished. Aside from checking every of my files and marking more error for me, there is no other thing they are doing to support me. I do not even know what the alternative support that might help me either, it is just small minor mistake on my file that i do notice although i triple check my file. what should I do ?

I'm on a PIP at the moment for clocking in late. Got pulled into HR about a week ago and on Saturday I was 7 minutes late so got pulled into HR again today. I explained to them about the public transport system whereby the buses were running late, even though I leave home at the same time every day. I was told to leave earlier. This isn't always possible as I have to take medication for Bipolar Disorder and it knocks me right out, which they knew already during the interview process and seemed to be fine with it. I've been with the company for about 1 year and 5 months. A lot of staff have left since I started due to changes in management.(Everyone is now micro managed.) I was thinking that I would be better off working for an employment agency as agency staff get paid more in the UK and it would save the issue of being fired or being put on improvement plans over being a few minutes late.
