Multi tiered Investor yeah they should have focused more on the land nav. Although I went to and graduated from Benning School for boys, I was commissioned Signal. Map Reading was a self learned course that we had to learn at my 10 month Signal OfficerAdvanced Course. We were tested on it during our first two weeks and if anyone failed they took it until the passed. My neighbor had been thrown out of the ANC for nearly strangling a female nurse and as it was during Vietnam, he became a Signal officer. I spent a couple weeks trying to teach him map reading. He did not even know what a compass was.

B Co, 11-89. we started with 220 Men, 35 graduated. integrity, failure to lead, PT, academics killed off the candidates. daytime land nav = 25 points, night = 12 points, you talk, you fail. half the time in the field, half in garrison. when in the billets, we went to Bldg. 4 for classes all day, after evening meal, we sat at our desks for two hours to study. maintain 70% academics. in the field, lots of weapons, two weeks of ranger school activities on basic squad/platoon patrolling, long ruck marches. never enough cattle cars so platoons took turns walking and riding. I looked at so many feet every evening. the BN CO loved to run, so Saturdays in garrison meant 13 mile runs. it was good training. I went across the street to IOBC. i was the only candidate who got to choose my branch - almost everyone else was branched chemical.

Simon Gonzalez I actually put the links to the texts books in a previous comment so you can download those for free. If you want to read through you can to get a heads up. Once you get there, at the first of the cycle they will give you the study guide. Start working on it as soon as you get it. The study guide is exactly what is on the test. Just make sure to fill everything out and also put together study groups and pool everyone’s notes together. That was the biggest help to me for passing the test.

@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
JayJay SportsVids your actual score prom basic does not matter because you take a class-up pt test when you get there. No you want to score as high as possible if not a 300 or higher. Land nav in ocs is harder then bct but if you are confident in you land nav abilities you will be just fine.
@jayjaysportsvids92016 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Could you elaborate on the ocs one being more difficult? For instance, is the physical aspect of OCS land what is making it more difficult? Do you have to find more points in shorter period of time? Is the map much more complex? Thank you in advnace again for taking the time to answer as detailed as you can.
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
JayJay SportsVids well with my class it was the rules they had in place. You did the course on your own and not as a buddy team, could not use white light at all or you would be recycled, you had to lay in the prone during the dark with red light only to look at your map and when you got close to where you thought your point may be you could not lighthouse to hopefully see you point. Also it is not a self correcting course. Most points have coordinates written on them but you can trust all of them. So if you get to a point and your not sure if it’s yours it could mess up the rest of the course for you. Just use the basics they teach you and you will be just fine

Ileana Corpuz you will still have to go through a board and as for the APFT you should have to take one 30 days out from arriving at OCS. You then take a APFT day one to decided if you class up (if you are guard/reserve or in service you should automatically have a spot for the class as long as you pass. Once in class the only one you should take will be the one to graduate. Hope that helps.

HonorGuard honestly the best thing you can do is read through the textbooks that I have the links to in a prior comment. Also when you get to OCS they get the study guide out to you very early in the cycle so start working it it right away. That way you are not trying to keep up with the fast pace of the class.... and I mean a very fast pace. You will cover two full textbooks of just military history in two weeks. Start early and study every night till you take the test and you will pass with flying colors. Also have group study sessions that was also a big help.

Is the history exam multiple choice or a short answer? What are most of the exams like?
@j-31fitness827 жыл бұрын
Jaime Hernandez the history test does have multiple choice on it but they purposely try to trick you on them to see if you know little details. The test also has identification questions where they will ask a question and you have to identify every war in a list that matches with the question.... if you don’t get every single one you miss the whole question. Then the last thing is you will have a paragraph you read and you have to tell weather each sentence is either true or false. Those can also be tricky with the wording they use so be sure to pay close attention. As for the other tests they were straight forward multiple choice. Hope this helps. I’m also going to make an update video for you all and break down everything in more detail.

To prepare for OCS the things you need to focus on are running and ruck marching. You will run a lot here and you have 4 ruck marches to complete before you can graduate. Eric M yes you can definitely prepare for it. First you can google the program that the army uses to teach you the basics of you have never done that before, it is very important to have the basics down. Then if you have a park or something around you look you a topographical map of the area and actually do practice runs in light and dark conditions. Also you can download an app called “Land Nav Assistant” , just to check yourself and make sure you are hitting the correct points just don’t become dependent on the app. To ease any worries they will give you multiple practice runs on the course before you test so don’t stress to much. Trust yourself and trust your compass.

Try to remember details as far as tactics used, terrain that effected the battles and things of that nature. I will look through my files on my computer and see if I can find you a copy of the actual study guide given to my class.

@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
Temitope Alagbala you can’t really prepare a head of time for the test due to how they instructors teach it and how it is written. I could not find a copy of the one we had for our class. Even if I could find it it wouldn’t be much help, they changed all the questions every test or they will ask for a different aspect of whatever battle the question is about. Best thing to do is take lots of boys and complete the study guide they give you ahead of time. Also as a platoon or company everybody should work together to compare notes and study guide answers and I would say you will do just fine on the test.

I would also just search the web for all the info you can find prior to going to a recruiter. I’ll ask some friends of mine in the recruiting field and see if they may have some info on it.

@@j-31fitness82 thanks brother. I have been in contact with recruiters and they all seem to be giving me different info. Surprise surprise lol. I am not joining again until I can make everything much more clear. If you hear anything definitely let me know. Thanks man

Can you sign up for OCS as a Reserve candidate?
@thesweettoothbooth89613 жыл бұрын
Yes. I am going that route in Jan. 💃🏻
@pogeysnacks82343 жыл бұрын
Yup! As a reservist you'll go through the same application process as active folks. From my understanding, you pretty much automatically get in as a reserve officer as long as you don't have anything that doesn't DQ you.

Is there a away to prepare for the land nav before ocs?
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
M Alc if you have prior experience if shouldn’t be to big a deal for you. You will get a few practice runs prior to the test. If you not sure of your self just focus on the basics. Pace count, shooting the correct azimuthal, plotting your points correctly, and trusting yourself are the biggest things to help you. Also if you have some public lands close you you, get a topographical map of the area and try going there with you phone as a back up and find landmarks through out the area or just set points and find those. Also you will be able to use the roads so follow the roads till you are close to your point and shoot and azimuth from those attack points to make it easier.

I really appreciate yout video. I already asked you a question. I have a few more please. Can't find someone to answer them irl. I am getting to OCS at 1600 that's 4 hours later than normal. What uniform do I resume in? I'm prior enlisted reserve. Do we have our own bathrooms in the rooms or do we have to share with everyonr else?
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
Report in your ocp/acu with the ocs Rank and make sure you have the gold ocs pin rank on it, that’s for the chest and the PC. You will room with one or two other people and you will share a bathroom with your roommates only. As for when you are report don’t stress that we had people report in at almost midnight

J-31 Fitness the packing list also says to come with our asu. My Asu is the junior enlisted dress blues which is very different from the officer asu. Should I still bring it? Plus are we going to get issued all the TA 50s? I don't want to pack any unnecessary stuff. Should I bring everything on the packing list? Or are we going to be fitted for ASUs there. Thanks sooo very much. You're saving me a lot of smoking.
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
Temitope Alagbala take your ASUs because of the still fit well you can have them converted to officer dress blues cheaper then buying new. They do issue you all of the ta50 so no need to pack any of that unless there is something out just really want to take. Take everything on the packing list but do not open or use something unless absolutely necessary. Anything you don’t you can return after the cycle. As for the getting smoked it’s not like basic so you don’t have to worry to much about that happening, maybe a handful of times the entire cycle.

Hey Soldier, thanks for posting this. I've always wondered about the differences between Army OCS and Marine OCS (which I went through). Army OCS actually sounds much more like our TBS (The Basic School), which is 6 months long. Is there a high attrition rate at Army OCS? Can you recycle at Army OCS? Marine OCS is pretty physically and psychologically brutal. Would you say the same thing about Army?
@RangerCaptain11A5 жыл бұрын
Army OCS allows recycling for certain issues. my buddy Ian got shin splints and dropped back two weeks. but he was my first salute and got my silver dollar. integrity, academics, PT - no recycle, return to your unit. every day we were under attack by all our training officers, and it never let up for the entire four months. we low crawled to meals, never had hot water, and seven minutes from the time you get your tray shoved at you to eat and get back outside in formation, studying your required knowledge. even when we got our scarfs, any little thing caused us to lose them, then everyone moved to a different room. unrelenting.

Hey man, your channel has really helped me get through basic training. I am about to go to OCS and am wondering how I should prepare for land nav, history, and the field excercises. Are there any books or AR I can read? Also, did you get your phone and laptop in OCS and how do your privileges compare to BCT? Thank you for everything!

@RangerCaptain11A5 жыл бұрын
go take a map and compass class from REI. get a 7.5 minute topo map of your home area and look at terrain features and find them on the map and vise-versa. learn metric measurement. learn to estimar=te distances in meters fro 50 to 1,200 meters. learn your pace count - how many steps per 100 meters both day and night, in forest and open terrain.

Did you do land nav by yourself ? Or was it a group of soldiers working together?
@j-31fitness82 Жыл бұрын
When I went through we did land nav individually. It’s really not that bad if you skirt the roads. There are tons of trails from the previous classes to help you out too. Just stick to the basics and it’s a breeze

How well do you think someone with a history degree do?
@j-31fitness827 жыл бұрын
Doni Moe_ we had a couple of history majors in my class and they all said the test wasn’t to hard for them, it was more how it was formatted that made it more difficult. Also they will use wording that makes it difficult, example- they may use the words “rolling hills” instead of “mountainous terrain” and that alone could cost you 5 points on the test. The details are what hurt most people

Robert Papa there is no swim qualification so you don’t have to worry about that. I did here today that they have added graded release runs to the class that count towards the OML.

J-31 Fitness. I report in May. I was told we don't need 6 ACU's it is just 4, is this accurate. Also will I have time to get the follow me patch and 11th Infantry crest, OCS rank, before I have to report? They don't have it at the clothing sales by me. What do I wear to report in? I am prior enlisted, but I have no orders just an ATTRs reservation. Help. LOL
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
Ashlin Hensley four uniforms will be fine but I would take OCPs instead of ACU if your able too. As soon as you get on base just go to clothing and sales or ranger joes or commandos outside post to get all the tank your going to need. You should report in OCPs and for your orders your unit should give you a copy before you leave. Just be sure to follow up with them before you head to benning. Also make sure to have all your paperwork for inprocessing.
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
Ashlin Hensley go ahead and report to OCS after you get what you need and they will put you up in a room there for the night.

the Army used to give an English proficiency test, and non-pass meant a few weeks of daily English and reading classes. but you have to go in front of a selection board and write an essay before you are selected. don't get the cart in front of the horse.

Is OCS like Boot Camp?
@j-31fitness826 жыл бұрын
John Dettenmaier thats a difficult question... for those going straight from basic to OCS its a step up in freedoms and what you are allowed to do. If you are prior service it feels like basic at times but over all its not near as bad. You get more annoyed with the little things that cadre pick at, so do worry to much on difficulty of the course. Just focus on what they are teaching and your end goal... to be commissioned!

Hey brother awesome video very informative one quick question my battalion board is February 6 I’m hoping to get into OCS and get an aviation slot I have already taken my flight physical and my sift do you know more or less the chances of getting an aviation slot at OCS If they even allot aviation slots for OCS? Has anybody from your current class slotted Aviation
@j-31fitness827 жыл бұрын
Hey brother! I’m glad you decided to take this route. It sounds like your taking the right steps early which is great. You stand a good chance of getting aviation being as proactive as you are, most wait till they have arrived at OCS to start that whole process. As for the amount of slots it’s just up to how many packets they accept and the number can very from class to class. In my class we have two that are branches aviation from the national guard side and there are about 5 or 6 more on the active side getting their packets reviewed as I write this.

how old are u? im 29. wanting to go OCS. non prior service. they are saying that they have no slots for non prior service. and that i must enlist first and serve as e4 for a couple years. but im concerned that i will miss the age deadline after deployment and stuff. is it true that when you are in enlisted your age is no longer a factor? ...like a 40 year old e6 can go to ocs?
@TerraOblivion275 жыл бұрын
Sounds like someone doesnt want to put your packet together, possibly. Sometimes there is not a slot and you may have to wait. Try different army recruiting stations and see what they say. Ask like it is your first time

@IMxYOURxDADDY follow up. I also have a marijuana arrest ten years ago. Apparently I can't go OCS off the street as a cover for that. Pt scores 16 min 2 mile. 68 push-ups. 59 sit-ups. GT score 132. 95th percentile. Will they still let me do OCS as an enlisted even with my arrest as a civilian. ?
