1. Pick your research topic wisely. MAKE SURE IT'S A TOPIC WITH A WEALTH OF RELEVANT DATA and LITERATURE. 2. Know your potential supervisors and their involvement in the dept./commitments, this will determine the time they get back to you on stuff and the frequency of your meetings throughout the year. But obviously, communication is key and will save you even if you get a busy supervisor. 3. Don't cancel meetings with your supervisor because you feel you haven't made progress on your deliverables. Even the meetings I went to unprepared were super helpful in helping me think about things a bit clearer. I gained something in all of them. 4. While it will be a mission to make any solid progress on your research paper in the first semester, remember that any little engagement with your topic during that time matters! Take those random 2 hours to read up or write something. It will all matter in the end. It all helps in easing the pressure when it's crunch time in the second semester. Also try to use the June/July vac to get ahead on your research paper. 5. Prioritise advice from your supervisor more than the generic advice from the course convenor of the Research course/writing coordinator. Your supervisor will be the one marking your paper. So, make THEM happy.

I start metrics in 2nd year I think. I started choosing courses around that time too. ECOS was mandatory, but you could choose the others if I remember correctly.

What's the difference between Bcom in Economics and Bcom in PPE?

Hey there. BCOM PPE has philosophy + politics + econ. BCOM econ differs from uni to uni, but it primarily has Econ and some other commerce courses (maths, accounting, management etc). Its probably best to look at your prospectus and get a more accurate view, but I hope this helps. 🌻

Do you think you’ll get employment after honours Currently in my final year in undergrad in economics

Considering the fact that I started my first job last week.. I'd say the chances are pretty good. 😂 But in all seriousness, it's really depends on how much effort you put into looking for a job and how well you perform at school. Beyond that, I'd say it's simply a game of luck. Start looking as early as possible - even if it's just an internship. And hopefully everything figures itself out along the way.
