Deflecting with stupidity is like 90% of my life... lol. But seriously, great advice. As an introvert, "likeability" is something I focused on my first day on the job. One of my strengths is giving people about 2-5 minutes of high energy enthusiasm before I get bored/tired. Which ironically works out very well for me. Often introverts feel like they're at a disadvantage here but by giving people my full 2-5 mins, I come off as super likeable (has been brought up in many meetings and performance reviews LOL), while not going too deep allows me to stay out of all the stupid, petty office nonsense. Sometimes it feels a little silly and ungenuine but like my dad always told me growing up "Alex, you need to learn to play the game... " and that's what it is, one big game LOL.

Is there any harm in being direct when someone tries to gossip with you? Thats the approach ive always taken even though it probably comes across a little rude. I just flat out tell them "yeah, i dont do that" or "this isnt appropriate" and end the conversation. 🤷♀️

corporate life is starting to sound like a world where middle school kids are given authority over others. Where do the high EQ and smart people work? Do they move to more niche fields where they can avoid the "public" or "general population" ? This sounds like riding public transportation, a very wide range of intellect... What are the "private jet" or "country club" fields? I'm starting my first job and I already want to go back to uni to do a phd because this sounds so petty and honestly a bit stupid... I'd like to assume that the more "general public" the field, the pettier, because since the barrier to entry is lower there are a lot more stupid people. Therefore entering fields with high intellectual barriers to entry should be different. I really hope so.

Hey Emily! Fellow HR girly here🫶🏼 thank you for boosting confidence so many people’s careers and shedding light on something so many of us experience but don’t often talk about. I love when you use real life examples from your prior positions, would you do a video giving more examples of distinguishable milestones/conversations/hardships in your career and describe what you learned and how it shaped your growth in the workplace?
