How to swap your Mk3 O2A shifter to a Mk4 O2J shifter!

All and all not a hard swap to do! Went a lot smoother then I imagined and once I figured out how to properly put the tower in it was simple haha

To adjust it, you have to unlock the springs, and slowly push down on the tower Itself and there’s a locking pin on the bottom left side of the tower, the you slide the Allen in the box and reconnect the springs and your good to go!

Looks good and works good but the downside of this is exhaust heat coming up from the hole because it cannot seal out the heat like the original

You don't need the tower. Just the shifter and cables and a persuader on the bracket to make it line up to the ota tower

Audi tt shifter on tower will give you an oem shorter throw on your shifts

I was told there’s two different styles of o2j trans and linkage.. which one is the correct one to have? Or better one.. I just pulled of an entire set up off of a 2000 mk4 12v vr6 Jetta!

My 02J vr5 came with a 02a shifter tower and selector.. seems the first models reuse what was on the mk3 vr6 platform. Does any 02J shifter tower and selector work for any 02J gearbox? I found some tdi and 1.8t gearboxes but remember you mentioned vr's can't share gearboxes from other engines besides vr's

That's because of the bellhousing. Every other internal part ir interchangeable.

what did you do abou the sensor on the tower? the one on the original one is a different sensor from the new o2j one?

Edwin Arroyo-Flores I was given the oval Mk4 style sensor with my o2j tower so I just cut off my mk3 sensor and spliced in the Mk4 sensor and it worked perfectly 👌🏼

Why would you go from 02a to 02j ? Isn't the 02a a better transmission ? Or am I thinking of the 02m ? Never mind, I don't remember which is which anynore.

artdeco101010 well I swapped over the o2j shift tower, linkage, and box, it still has the o2a transmission in it 😬 it’s just a newer better feeling/working setup that is compatible with the older trans. The o2m is newer then the o2j and isn’t compatible with a Mk3 Vr6 I don’t believe

@@Mk3Smith The O2M will work but it takes a lot of custom parts. And the O2M really isn't worth it unless you're going forced induction. O2J does work. You'd be better off with an O2J and a TDI 5th gear swap :). Love the vidoes man! You inspiried me to buy a Mk3 2.0 last week and do a Vr6 swap eventually! Keep up the good work!
