MK4 GOLF Removing 02A shifter | 02A to 02J swap P1

In this video I remove the 02A shifter and cables from my 1999 MK4 Golf. In the next video I will troubleshoot and install the 02J shifter upgrade.

Cutting a hole in the side of the shifter is a workaround method to replace the front to back shift bushing without needing to drop the entire assembly out from under the car.

Looks like you have a 99.5. Is it a big improvement over stock? Wondering if the sigma shifter tower is worth it or go for a tt one

The feel is noticeably better. I could tell right away that the shifting was less vague and more crisp. While it is better, it didn't solve my first gear grind yet.

Hey this was a pretty good video...I was trying to find the part 2 to it where you were going to go over the issues with changing to the later style shift tower Did you ever put up a part 2? I'm swapping transmission from a later to an earlier mk4 and want to retain my later model shift tower Is there a lot to change?

@@MaqsVids is your golf a Gti 1.8 turbo ? And have you experienced first gear problems ? Like sometimes it pops of first gear . Could it be the linkage I just got bought another transmission i on my golf gti 1.8t old one was bad it was Poppin off first gear grinding Whining noise when driving over 35mph On this one just installed all gear's shifts great no grinding accept on occasional time's it comes off first gear so confusing

Mine is a 2.0. And I have had 1st gear problems. Every so often it would grind going into first. I looked up how to adjust the shifter and found out I had the oddball Mk4 shifter. That is when I learned about the 02J shifter swap. Adjusting my old one almost eliminated the occasional grind. I'm hoping that the new one eliminates it completely. But, I never had issues with it popping out.
