Hooray, I'm up to date with your build. Although this video isn't really relevant to me living in the UK, it was still informative. Here in the UK we don't have the same amount of red tape as you do in the USA, although you can only put cat C and D back on the road, but once you have re-built it, it still has to go through an MOT (Ministry Of Transport Test) so that it can legally be driven on the road (cost about $50, but you can get it done cheaper in some places) The good thing about the UK is that you don't have different laws and rules for each region (state), the same rules apply throughout the whole country regarding vehicles Up to October 2015, all cars notified to the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority) as ‘written off’ within salvage categories A, B or C were required to pass a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC), conducted by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), before the DVLA would issue a registration certificate V5C (vehicle registration document). Now, a VIC test is no longer required and only category C vehicles can apply for a V5C. (Cat D will still have a V5C and only needs a change of ownership) Here is a list of the categories in the UK (if you ever wondered) Category A This classification is for cars that have been so badly damaged they should be crushed and never re-appear on the road. They are only suitable for scrap. Even salvageable parts must be destroyed. Category B This signifies extensive damage, although some parts are salvageable. The vehicle should never re-appear on road, however reclaimed parts can be used in other road-going vehicles. Category C This vehicle is repairable but the costs exceed the vehicle’s value. They can re-appear on road once repaired. Category D The vehicle is repairable but repair costs are significant compared to the value, including any time delays to source parts. These vehicles can re-appear on road. There are two other categories, U and X. Category U vehicles are not owned by an insurance company and may have sustained accident damage. Be aware that they are not governed by the ABI (Association of British Insurers) categorisation guidelines, so unlikely to have been reported to the Motor Insurance Anti-Fraud Theft Register (MIAFTR). Category X does not appear as an official label but can be considered the most desirable of salvage category, because after repair there is no record of the initial damage and cars are not recorded on the Hire Purchase Inspection (HPI) register. Obviously all vehicles on UK roads must have insurance and road fund licence (there are some vehicles that get free road fund licence) before they can be driven. Looking forward to your next project

Indiana process is similar accept no running around. Only have a police officer inspect the repairs & sign off. Next all the paperwork you will fill out with receipts w/ proof & mail to BMV w/ payment

Do they check for airbag lights in the dash during inspection? I replaced the airbag but the light is still on. Also The car was hit from the front and core support is pushed in slightly on one side. Would it be a problem? Radiator, condenser and headlights are all good and in place. Thanks again.

Did you drive the car without tags or registration or anything to the BMV and for the state police inspection, or did you have to tow it to those places? I’m in PA and will be buying a PA a salvage car, curious if I could drive it to those places instead of renting a trailer again.

The ohio Bmv assured me it was legal to drive it without plates to and from the inspection as long as I had the inspection receipt paperwork with me. I had 2 cops pass me on the highway with no plates coming back with the last car I rebuilt and they didnt stop me. If I were you I would put insurance on it and gamble. You will have the excuse that you are on your way to and from the enhanced inspection.

Great video I do have a few Question does the state of Ohio put your car on a rack to inspect the underneath or just a drive thru ? I bought a car not knowing it was not a r built title and still just a salvage title it’s already an Ohio title and in my name. However I did heavily modified it over fenders,lower suspension, trans swap. My question is I am finding out the inspection is for proof of ownership of vehicle and parts and I bought. everything was purchased new online and my buddy gifted me the transmission are they going to check all of that? Do I just provide every receipt for even all mechanical parts? Do they check for airbags,horn? I have a good size dent size of basketball in the door is that a problem ? Thanks any info helps

Dents don't matter, they are looking for stolen parts. I have had them put 1 of my cars on a lift and look under it. They want to see all the receipts you have. My last car I took I had a receipt for the airbag I bought off ebay but it didn't have a vin number on the receipt so they failed the inspection and made me get a replacement with a vin on the receipt. It really depends on who you get and how deep they want to dig around. I have had inspections take 20 mins and I have sat there for hours.

My son bought a truck. He was living with my bff and her bf. The bf handled everything, Also the bf is a mechanic. At the time they all lived in south Carolina, at the time of purchase my son was visiting me in new jersey so he sent the money to the bf. The bf rebuilt the truck. My son never met the owner of the vehicle, my son also didn't know it was a salvage, he also didn't change title over. Things went sour my son came back to NJ. The truck still hasn't been changed over cuz my son hasn't got his license yet ofc due to the pandemic. I'm trying to find out what documents he absolutely needs to get the title in his name? No need to repair anything on a hail damage car. The only thing they check for is stolen parts. It can still have some bumps and bruises.

For me it really depends on the extent of the damage, but I typically try to figure out what parts to repair will cost and half the KBB value. So say it's worth 20k, I would like to be at 10k. I expect 2500 in parts for repair so I wouldn't want to spend more than 7500 with auction fees. I don't win a whole lot of cars with this mindset though. I guess I'm cheap, but I have won about 6 cars in the last 4 years.

It would be the same process for flood cars. I have not had to show insurance for any of the cars I have taken but I have been able to put them on my insurance prior to the inspection with out any issues. I have Progressive insurance and have just called my agent and they add them to my policy. They have not seemed to care about the title status.

Once you pay for the salvage inspection the receipt serves as your paperwork to drive it to the inspection. You schedule the inspection yourself so there is no rush. Keep in mind sometimes it could be a 3 week wait till they have a opening so try to time the scheduling properly.

In Wisconsin you can not buy a car without a dealer licence besides ( boats or jet skies etc). My question is If I buy at a different state that allows you to buy without a licence will it be a problem to get it register in Wisconsin. I don't believe that should be a problem. People buy these cars from all over and ship them to other states. The money you would save not having to pay a broker will probably pay for the majority of the shipping charges.

Not positive about Georgia but in PA and Ohio you don't need any special licenses to do any of this... just have to find your way through the steps after you repair the car.

It really depends on the part. I have had several parts with out receipts with no issue, but last car I took had a airbag without a vin on the receipts and they failed the inspection and I had to get another airbag and go through the process again.

You cant legally drive it until you have paid for the salvage inspection. That gives you permission to drive it to the state police so they can conduct the Inspection

I'm not sure about new Jersey but if it has a pa rebuilt title it shouldn't be that hard to register. Pa has a pretty strict guidelines to get a R title.

The title status shouldn't matter that it was already "r titled" once. I'm not sure about Kentucky but Ohio is very specific about origin of parts and receipts. They do not allow ebay parts unless they have a vin they can trace the part back too.

If you are looking for a deal on older cars yes. My neighbor buys older cars at copart and prides himself on getting them for less than 1000 and fixing them cheap. The last car he got is a 06 Buick Rendezvous. Only had 68000 miles and needed a fender and a rear view mirror. There are deals on early 2000 cars.

Are you in Ohio? I actually spoke with the State police about a situation like that and they said to have it inspected. They are looking for stolen parts... not inspecting for serviceability. In the end it may boil down to an inspector, if it doesn't pass, buy a new bumper cover or whatever was slightly damaged and have it reinspected.

The ohio bmv requires receipts for everything. I wouldn't buy the car intil it had a rebuild title. If they fail it you will be stuck with a pile of junk.

Technically you are not allowed to use private seller parts from eBay. I have bought parts off ebay from salvage businesses and they have accepted them because they were from a legit business. I requested a receipt be added with the part when it gets shipped when I purchase the parts.

All they are inspecting is that the parts are not stolen. That's why they cannot be from a private seller... no way to prove they are valid.

Was it repaired before you got it with the salvage title? Every time I have gone I have had a chance to talk to the trooper that did the inspection. You may be able to explain the situation. If you have documentation from the court process you could use that.

In ohio you have to show receipts for parts you bought to fix the car. They will look the car over to ensure no stolen parts were used and then give you the correct paperwork to take back to the dmv

Usually takes me around a month or 2. Most of the wait depends on how far out the salvage inspections are scheduled. I normally sign up for the inspection beforenI have the car repaired the whole way. It's normally a 3 week wait.

I would go to the title office at the courthouse. Last car I did just had a salvage title, no bill of sale and they didn't have any issues with it.

I have a question. I found a car from a private seller. He told me it has a rebuilt title. He says the vehicle was hit when the pandemic started so the insurance company just sent him a check for $3,300. No one ever came to see it from the insurance company. He never got it fixed. He said there is a small dent on the back right side of it and some marks on the bumper. I haven't gone to see it yet because I'm trying to figure this out first. It's a 2008 Saturn VUE XR with 67,000 miles on it. I'm not understanding why he would have a rebuilt title. The SUV is listed way above the $3,300 check he received for it. He is saying just that small part from that accident is why he has a rebuilt title. Does any of this make any sense? Because to me it doesn't. I need some help please.

He wouldn't have a rebuilt title unless the repairs were made. It may have a R title from a previous wreck and has been wrecked again and now he is trying to offload it.

@@bassiroukaramoko9820 for me we had to go to another state to get a salvaged car inspection. I think you can just call your nearest dmv and ask where the nearest one for you is. I was unlucky though and my nearest one was out of state. However once they inspect it they give you a sheet and then you can go get it put it your name. And then you can get your tags. I don’t have that car anymore but it was a long frustrating process and kinda expensive too

In Illinois/ Indians you can only rebuild a salvage if you are a licensed rebuilder. You can go through a third party to do this but it’s going to cost you quite a bit.
