Been hitting behind the ball lately and know I’m not shifting forward quickly enough. Will try your suggestion and drill. For some of us the quest lasts a lifetime! Thanks!

Jerrold, your videos are easy to understand and you have given us some great practice keys. I have watched nearly all your videos and have learned a lot. I’m still a 22 handicap but I started a year ago with a 31. I’m hoping to get down to below 20. I’m a 78 yo Senior golfer. I still get my drives out around 200 on average (rollout) and occasionally out to 220. This video on getting a divot in front of the ball is something I need to work on. Thanks - Mal from Az.
Great lesson. I rarely take a divot and will practice this. Thanks.

@@kerrodgraygolf I've watched a couple dozen of these "how to take a divot" videos and they all neglect to mention that you have to do *two* things, get the swing arc forward and get lower. As soon as you mentioned that there were two things involved I knew I was going to see something enlightening! I had the misconception that the right shoulder going low was the answer, not the right. That exercise you give *is* hard, though. Still working on getting it right.

It’s the opposite to the problems I have, I am a greenskeepers nightmare, but this another great tip!

My faults, exactly, Kerrod, especially standing up on the downswing. This punch shot idea does work very well. Is it good enough to keep as my full-time swing (I am a high handicap almost senior)? Cheers. Paul

For now yes absolutely!

having seen several youtube vids about taking divots, the common theme that doesnt get answered well is - exactly WHY is it important. You can play a perfectly decent round of golf without carving up loads of divots. It can also be risky, because of the danger of catching it fat and losing distance. So the question remains - why does sending nice divots matter so much?

It’s just an indicator that you have delofted the club face and compressed the ball well. Should provide more distance on your shot

Low point 4 inches after the ball. Implying you connect the ball downswing moving forward, hitting the ball somewhere half way high..is this right?
@kerrodgraygolf7 ай бұрын
4 inches after the ball, but you should be hitting the club face pure.

Is this not the same as stack & tilt? Starting & finishing with weight forward.
@kerrodgraygolf2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Mike! Nearly every pro starts with their weight slightly on the left, shifts pressure to the trail foot, and finishes on the front foot.
