This is a really fantastic video!!! Seriously! I have never succeeded with my cuttings and now I know it was that I watered them before they got roots... by the way, the part about NOT watering is really funny... and unforgettable. Thank you, Judy

Thank you so much. I'm new to succulents and have one with a long stem that broke off from the roots. I've grown from leaves but never from a cutting. I'm glad to know my plant can be saved.

Very helpful tips, thank you! I watched this and immediately after, I took my cuttings off the soil XD I cut them about 2 hours before I watched this. Luckily, I new about not watering anything. The Office bit made me LOL !

So glad you enjoyed the video! Yes it's important to give the plant a little while to heal so it can callous the cut, as well as it gets a break from the sun so it does'nt go into shock. They are pretty magical plants and do enjoy a break from the sun if they are cut and healing

Haha I love that office insert LOL it certainly drives the point home! I'm actually running out of room under my grow light setup and my fred ives are out of control so I was thinking about head chopping a few of them and just placing them in a big planter box on the floor next to my shelves this way they will still get enough light to grow roots but hopefully I won't have to put them directly under the grow lights for a couple of months. Just doing my research before I start chopping heads off all of my succulents LOL great video 😉

I'm in Connecticut so I won't be able to put anything outside until hopefully the end of April so room under the grow lights is pricey real estate right now 🤣🤣

Great video! What type soil do you recommend? Many others recommend Gritty soil, while yours looks like regular soil with a little pearlite. What about fertilizer? Thanks so much!
@succulents6137 Жыл бұрын
I buy soil that's called succulent soil, I add lots of perlite and or vermiculite. In the past I've even added aquarium rocks mixed In for grit

This was a very informative video! Thanks so much for doing it. Your succs look fantastic. When do you start misting these? When do you fertilize them??
@succulents61374 жыл бұрын
I dont water cuttings until roots have established/ formed. I don't mist. Succulents need a big drink once roots are established. I dont fertilize; rain does this for me :)

Do I water immediately the stem that stays in the soil when I remove a rosette ?
@succulents61372 жыл бұрын
I would wait a week because its an open wound. Water in a week
@t.pisani82393 жыл бұрын
How do you get the babies off of the stem once they begin growing? Do they have to stay there?
@succulents61373 жыл бұрын
You need to wait until they are large enough to remove. Usually 2 inches or so. Then they would pop off with a little pressure

FYI!!! Keep rude comments to yourself!! Or express yourself kindly!! This is such a nice lady like the rest of ladies that have commented why be so rude!? No need for that and I agree if you are a collector for over 40 years and know it all why are you here with us!?? Twirl and out you go!!

Ive killed so many cuttings by following the sellers care instructions on their websites to start watering after a week and keep the soil damp!? The result being dead cuttings... ya purchase another set...be sure to follow instructions..ie instructions to kill the cuttings and once again purchase them
@succulents61373 жыл бұрын
It's a bit tough to give instructions for all plants since they all grow at different rates. But a good rule is, filtered sun, wait 2 weeks, check for roots. Only water if there's decent roots
@monicabordallo4 жыл бұрын
so no watering until there are roots? okay! when can they be exposed to sun?
@succulents61374 жыл бұрын
That's right- don't water until there are roots because if you water and there are no roots you are essentially watering "nothing" because the roots are what drinks. No roots=no drink. It prevents potential rot also. I usually let the cuttings rest in the shade for a week or two, then plant in the soil and put in partial sun, then a few days later maybe a bit fuller sun. It also depends on your cuttings previous life. If my cuttings lived in full sun Before I cut them, they would probably be ok to go in full sun sooner. If the cuttings were taken from a plant that lived indoors, or in a greenhouse, I would give them more time. ( shade for a few days, partial sun for a few days, full sun for one hour for a few days etc. acclimate them)
@monicabordallo4 жыл бұрын
@@succulents6137 i read somewhere that they water cuttings just a little bit after 1 week of repotting to "entice the roots". is it true?
@succulents61374 жыл бұрын
@@monicabordallo My thoughts are: they are drought tolerant, and already have water stored in their leaves. Roots will form no matter what- so I don't water when there is no roots; to ensure I never get rot. Better to be safe than sorry. If you leave a cutting on your kitchen table without soil, it will form roots- so to me water isn't enticing anything. I hope that makes sense!
@monicabordallo4 жыл бұрын
@@succulents6137 totally makes sense to me! thank you so much! 😊
