I’ve been tailoring some of my clothing since HS, usually by hand while watching TV and without using my sewing machine. (I’m almost 60 now). However, I’d really like to donate to you a few bucks for the “grab it” technique that you demonstrated so very well. Where’s your DONATE button for those of us who’d like to thank you with a few dollars?

All you need to do is cut the cloth at the rubber band the width of the rubber band and fold the rubber band the amount of inches that you need to decrease from the waist size and sew one dotted area in the middle of the folded rubber section and do it good enough to last. Then you sew the cut waist seem so you don't see the rubber anymore.

Don't cut any material when you take it in so if you grow then you just have to remove the seams and adjust the size again

Thank you for this video , I brought pants for my 5 year old who has long legs and a tiny waist. I didnt have time to try in the pants before she was suppose to wear them to school. So the morning of school I didnt have time to go out and buy the elastic strip so I did something similar to how you did it with my sewing machine and it didnt take me long and she was all set for picture day.

How do you prevent the dimple point? I always get a dimple from sewing darts😕
@liisl27063 жыл бұрын
my best guess is to curve the dart at the end point as smooth as you can to the previous stitching and then press it. when i'm sewing a stitch like sarah did here, when i get to the end of the stitch, i go past the old stitching to the seam allowance and double stitch there to avoid bulking
@thehapagirl923 жыл бұрын
@@liisl2706 I do that and I stitch close to the edge, but still a dimple remains 😤

@patriciaokelley1872 жыл бұрын
You can add a large piece of rubber to each side of the pants or even the straps with buttons and you can see the designs on clothes online
@patriciaokelley1872 жыл бұрын
They used to cut the material to fit like a extra large person for a child and they would sew it to the child's size and fold the extra material which didn't cost much more. As the child grew then they would take the seams out and resew it to the next size. They would save all the cloth scraps too so they could patch clothes as needed

You can. The finished product isn't quite as nice but you just cut off the extra material leaving a 1/4 or so then finish with a zig zag stitch or overcast foot to prevent fraying.

@kcjd8659 Жыл бұрын
Heeeelllp! Will this method work on chinos that have a thick waistband? My son needs khakis for his new school and they’re all too big on the waist or too short in the leg. I know you said this method isn’t for jeans, but would it work on stretch chinos? They have an adjustable waist (but would have to put it on the very smallest setting and it would still be a bit big plus puffs out and makes him look like he’s wearing a diaper-not cool with my 7-year-old), and it seems this method would preserve the inner waistband’s elastic and button mechanism that adjusts it, which would be great, but I don’t sew much and never clothing so I have no idea if this would translate to this type of pants. Any help would be so appreciated! P.S. They are Children’s Place pull-on stretch chinos.

You shouldn't cut the material in case you need to make it bigger. You just have to fold up the extra material. You can fold the rubber in the waist and sew it to make a smaller waist. People used to cut material to the largest pattern available and they would mark it for small size and they would sew the seems for small and fold up the extra material so the clothes could grow with you. They couldn't make as many clothes as you may have and they just adjusted the size as needed
