Just checked - my Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.25-4 FireDot SPR is red dot bright. It has a wake on movement so the CR2032 I have in it from Feb '23 is still good.

Well you see the great thing about LPVOs is that you literally don’t need illumination during the day at all. The reticle is there no matter what

Awesome video. You are correct, some manufacturers exaggerate on how bright some of their reticles are, so here is some of the ones I have experience with. Ive owned the nx8 1-8, atacr 1-8, razor 1-10, leupold mk6 1-6, razor 1-6, pst 1-6, nova 1-6, Elcan specter dr 1x/4x vudu 1-10, and a few others. Refference the ones I listed, the VUDU is daylight visible, but not daylight bright. All the others I listed are absolutely red dot bright. To speak to the atacr 1-8 vs nx8 1-8 brightness. Both are absolutely red dot bright. The nx8 may edge it out on max brightness, by maybe a couple of extra clicks on the illumination dial, however, we're talking levels of illumination where both optics would be red dot bright on their max settings in the desert at noontime regarless, the extra couple levels on the nx8 isnt really useful other than just reserve power for when the battery starts to drain. Also, fun fact, all these red dot bright reticles, have an average runtime of 2-3 months constant one at optimal setting. Meaning usually setting 4 or 5, which is still red dot bright in most day settings, but without eye streaking reticle bloom, and theres still several high settings in reserve.

Good job on the scale. I agree there is a weird cult of nuclear bright requirement guys. I have the nova and it’s just like the razor 1-6 but lighter and cheaper but poorer glass. The credo 1-6 has 3 models in red. I own SFP BDC credo and it’s daylight bright but not red dot bright, but if it were brighter it would wash out the center. The ffp is daylight bright but it’s less than the SFP. The Trijicon line has large reticles on 1x so that means it’s tougher to illuminate because of surface area. The VCOG 1-8 is daylight bright as well. I had a green 1-6 VCOG and it was only usable indoors, or in the woods. The atacr is red dot bright. People forget that if you’re outdoors on a cloudy day or in the woods your brightness will be easier to pick up.

Something that I learned from watching/reading Ilya Koshkin, a.k.a. the Dark Lord of Optics, is that it's more difficult to make a very bright dot on a first focal plane optic. I can't explain it, so don't ask me to.

Well put together video! I went with the Burris rt6 due to Philippine glass. And yes w/ more affordable lines they do tend to flush out with bright light. At some point I’ll either aim for a trijicon or shill out for a nightforce 😅

@@compulsivegunbuyer it’s one of the better affordable lpvo within the $400ish range if you’re getting into it or looking for a general purpose use. A uniform measurement tool might be to set a red dot to an equal brightness level of the LPVO in a side-by-side comparison. For example, my Delta Stryker HD 1-6 on its max setting of 11 is equal to my Aimpoint T2 at 11 of 12. And it doesn't have to be a T2, as any common red dot will be somewhat useful to the community as a whole.
@compulsivegunbuyer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, we are thinking along the same lines. The problem here is that you might limit the number of people you can crowdsource information from to only those with that particular red dot.

I've owned both the vudu 1-8 and vudu 1-10. I'd say the 1-10 is just daylight visible and the 1-8 squeaks into daylight bright. Using my friends ATACR in my opinion it's definitely red dot bright. About as bright as a razor 1-6 in my experience

The Steiner p4xi is daylight bright with less bloom than the pa 1-6 (while being slightly brighter), and the Swampfox arrowhead is on par with the PA 1-6 (but with less bloom), and us optics 1-6 was probably red dot bright, but had an absurd amount of bloom.

I’ve owned both the Razor 1-10 and ATACR 1-8 and can say that their brightness is hard to tell which is brighter. Ultimately kept the Atacr due to better 1x without illumination. Thicker stadia and less fisheye made it a better option for me. Illumination is nice, but as Hop or Brass facts said” LPVO battery life is measured in minutes”

I'm sorry but this mania about "daylight bright" or "Red dot bright" is missed placed. I want an LPVO where the reticle can be seen at 1X without any illumination ( like when batteries and electronics fail). That means an SFP reticle up till 8X. 10X or higher can utilized FFP reticles I only need illumination in an LVPO in dark areas or when low light situations present themselves.
