I copy my patterns to tracing film then I use clear shelf paper to seal the deal on both sides. Works great for me plus because the film is clear, I can place my pattern exactly where I want it. The tape thing can be a pain.

That’s great to hear. I had someone else tell me about that shelf paper before too. I need to try some.

I apply the end of the tape to the table just past the pattern. Then smooth it back towards myself. Trace the stylus with an edge and not against it. Takes a little planning. Thanks Joe!

I use the packing tape also for the patterns. When done, I store the patterns / templates in a manila envelope and draw a image on the outside so I know the contents of each envelope. Great tip!!!

Great stuff Joe and all. Heavy duty document protectors are a quick fix as well for single page patterns. Cut off one side, slide in pattern and seal side works well for me. My final is a Swede goo to work out wrinkles..

@@RodricWeiland I have attempted it but I the thickness of my lam panels made it difficult to trace through to leather. Not impossible but effort was needed. Made it the cutout pattern.

i use the computer printer to copy the pattern onto the vellum. Then I have a perfect pattern and it is not affected by any dampness. It saves time and resists the movements of the stylus.

Another very helpful video. Could you just laminate them with that clear film stuff? I think those laminating machines are quite inexpensive

The other thing that causes some trouble is where the tape overlaps the other one and causes a slight bump which can interfere with a smooth stylus flow. Hard to get the tape perfectly next to each other.

This might seem obvious but, I put a tiny piece of tape on the pattern to the table. Instead of running the tape the long way, try it across the paper. More control. Yes the tape has a mind of its own.. lol

I like to cut my tape to length then stick it. But I only use tape on patterns that aren't going to be reused. Otherwise I prefer laminating them. You can get a laminator for $30. They're not the best but for a shop work is perfect.

Just use "blue tape" along edge of pattern to hold it on table. Apply your cellophane tape over pattern and blue tape. Trim excess blue tape, flip pattern over and repeat.

I make my first pass with the tape extended on both sides so the pattern is stuck on the table. Then I’m not chasing the pattern around when taping the rest. When done with front, use an Omni grid ruler and cutter to release and do other side same way. Hardest part is picking the excess tape off the table,😅

GOOD TIP BUT NO MATTER , TAPE IS TAPE. tROUBLE IS GOING TO HAPPEN.
