I say this about all of our commands, but this one is a LIFE SAVER! It helps with guests coming into the house, or if we need the dog out of the kitchen, or if they just need to relax in their bed. I hope these tips help you teach your dog to go to their place or to their crate easily!

Sugestion: You should post a question on like what new tricks to teach little miss freya and based on the comments do a video where you teach her all those tricks, and your progress with them and stuff, would be nice

I hope you do one about teaching heel! Specifically for young puppies. My 10 month old is obviously fine, but Odin is just shy of 3 months and I am not sure how to approach teaching that position to such a young pup!

Has she ever stolen anything, if she wants to play? Because my 7 month old puppy does it all the time, and I don’t know how to fix it?? Please respond!
@MyDriftingDesk
@MyDriftingDesk 3 жыл бұрын
as a puppy she would try to run off with hair ties, socks, etc. lol but for us we would correct the behavior (saying ah-ah-ah) and give her a toy instead, if she took the toy we praise like crazy and give treats. if she didn't, we would force the item out of her mouth without any emotion/negative yelling/fuss, just calmly taking it (making sure not to turn it into tug of war), and then praise and treat immediately after letting go and give treats/toy. it will take a bit, but that's essentially how to teach "leave it"! she doesn't really steal things anymore and if she does, when we correct or ask her to leave it, she does now! I hope that's helpful! 🤍

she's kinda always been good with them! she goes to doggy daycare frequently and they told me she is always the new dog's first friend there lol. they say she matches the play style of the dog she's playing with which is awesome!! we had a few puppy play dates when she was small with some of our friend's dogs but she really didn't get a lot of socialization with them until she was vaccinated and in daycare! 💖

Also another question lol how do you correct unwanted behavior? Like if you’re potty training and they pee or poo in the house? We’ve been doing great with potty training and bell training BUT she hasn’t understood that we ONLY pee and poo outside lol
@MyDriftingDesk
@MyDriftingDesk 3 жыл бұрын
for us we either ignore unwanted behaviors and only pay attention and award the good behaviors, or we will redirect bad behaviors into what we DO want and then praise those. for potty training we never punished for going potty inside. when she was 8-9 weeks and we would see her start to go inside we would run over and pick her up and take her outside, but we didn't make a huge deal about it. no yelling/fussing/correcting. Just praising and rewarding when they DO go potty where you want them to, and they get nothing for going inside. It definitely takes some time. but we took her out every hour on the hour to potty train her until she never tried to go inside. they innately want to go potty in the same area every time, so I made that area outside, not inside. never giving her the chance to go inside made potty training go quicker! I hope that's helpful!! 🤍

Great videos on your relationship with Freya, and how you cultivated it on your terms. Did you find that you were able to train her out of the yapping and nipping behaviors that your alluded to and showed in earlier videos? Thanks. I would love to see a video on how you did that. I noticed you became emotionally flat to her at certain times in those videos, in order not to reinforce those behaviors. Thanks, great doggie content.
@MyDriftingDesk
@MyDriftingDesk 3 жыл бұрын
a lot of the nipping was definitely the puppy biting stage that she grew out of around 4-5 months once her teeth starting coming out and she wasn't teething anymore, which was helpful!! Other behaviors, like the herding nipping we definitely have a huge handle on now. every now and again if she's really hyper and rowdy she may try and herd/nip us but we're able to reel her in a lot faster and get her to stop faster than we were before when she was a puppy. ignoring behaviors we don't want (being emotionally flat) is how we trained her to NOT do things we don't want and she only got attention, praise, and treats when she WAS doing what we wanted. 🤍 I hope that's helpful!

Alternative to luring, I scattered treats as a lure or threw them toward the crate as we used so I'd say "bed" then sprinkle treats onto the crate floor and once he ran in and sat he got treated more and more then eventually I stopped throwing id say bed and he'd run over and sit in his crate on command, this was within 15 minutes maybe and he's only gotten more obedient especially since I say bed with his main meals as he's fed in his crate

For reference he's a maltese cross biewer terrier so he's only an tiny thing so luring might work better with larger dogs
