Learn the basics of teasing, needed to create hairstyles from the 1940s through to the 1960s and for modern pin up styles.
In this tutorial I go over the basics and then demonstrate the use of the techniques in a 1940s-style for long hair, reminiscent of the styles worn by Veronica Lake and Lana Turner in 1940s noir films.
For the shorter version of this video, where I just explain the basics of teasing, please click the link below:

I appreciate a tutorial for longer hair! My hair is even longer but I reckon it will work pretty well-certainly better than all those tutorials for shoulder-length or just below shoulder-length hair! (Useless.) I think the approach one has to go for is a Lana Turner. Which isn't a bad inspirations... My only complaint about 40's hair is the amount of work that went into it! Not the wash and air dry I do, exactly! I don't even use a hair dryer; not on hair this long, no way. Some detangler, a wide-tooth comb, a couple of products (shine, frizz), and boom! I've even discovered by accident that my thick, wavy hair looks best (for when I have sth 'important' the next day) if I go to bed with it wet! _How_ great is that?! 😄 But I want to do this as I love 40's vintage fashion. I guess I'm gonna have to invest in some curlers. And a brush.

PS. I love the detail (rick-rack? with a bit of sequin?) on your top. I'm going to have to steal that.

This really made me appreciate the natural volume of my thick hair! I thought it was a lot of work to take care of, but this makes me realize how much work it also saves me! Great job with this style and the detailed explanations, by the way!

@MissBeeTownsend

I thought the videos would get too long if I put the setting patterns in too. But I will be doing a video in this series about setting patterns so that you can look at a hairstyle and work out how you should set it. Hopefully it's useful :) But there are setting patterns you can use to achieve a similar look on Glamour Daze xx

This is amazing. I've never had the guts to tangle my hair up this much, I'm afraid I'll never be able to comb it out. It's so beautiful though, I want to try. 😮

yay! 40s is my fav decade! The dollhouse is stunning...luv the wardrobe...amazing that u have never dyed ur hair...usually brunettes go grey fairly fast. I have never dyed my hair either. Got my 1st grey hair when I was 19. I just yank them out. Only brunette that I knew that didn't go gray fairly fast was my childhood principal's wife & she attributed it to being part Native American. She finally went mostly grey in her 60s

Another super helpful and entertaining tutorial~! I don't know why I didn't think of putting a duckbill clip to hold the front section while I sculpt the curls, I put a Marcel wave after applying holding spray but it moves so easily that the indent can get lost quickly.

Thank you. I actually learnt it watching Dita Von Teese herself doing a tutorial I found on KZbin! The wave tutorial will be coming soon, and there'll be more tips on keeping everything in place - I think waving is the hardest technique to master! I'd love to see a pic of your hair do :)

Fellow vintage vegan here, I use the Giovanni Eco Chic pomade! They also make a volumizing shampoo that smells DEVINE (tangerine I believe) and a great protein treatment, I love every product from them I've tried. It's a great eco-friendly CF + vegan line that is also affordable!

Love this, thank you 😊 I've got long, very fine hair and I struggle to get and keep curls with volume in vintage hairstyles. Will definitely be trying this 😉 though would love to know what hairspray you use? I'm trying to find one that is good for hold and styling while not being ridiculously expensive 😱 lol x

This one is expensive. It is by a company called Ouai. But I also like DeLorenzo products (Aussie brand), and Paul Mitchell. All cruelty-free, and you get a massive can of hairspray for your money.
