I agree! There's got to be a better solution to find out if we are getting a leather couch or not. I heard something about poking your finger into the seat ( back, arms, etc) and if the material is drawn in towards the finger like an Asterix ( direct, lines) IT IS LEATHER. Another way to tell if it is real leather, of course the smell, and the touch, if it is smooth ( I'm sure they will improve on this characteristic soon enough, to make it seem like real leather ), it is NOT leather.
@BlueToronto4 жыл бұрын
@@bubbleblonde9600 Real leather can absolutely be smooth so I wouldn't go relying on that.

I just have this leather shoes. It feel, smells, and looks like faux leather but when i try to fire test it on the tongue area where the full layer are exposed, It doesn't melt and the burn smells like burned real leather. But there's a suspicious area inside the toe where it looks like a fabric from faux leather, and again when i fire test the top of the toe, it doesn't melt and not even burned. I'm confused what kind of leather is this 😅 Can i have your opinion?

I just got what she said about the flowers after watching it the 2nd time. If it smells like flowers then it's not leather because leather is not flowers. However, smelling it isn't the best way because companies disguise the smell with different things just as women disguising their smells with perfumes. Her accent is sexy. Strong, dominant, and asian, with complete words spoken everytime she speaks. Fire proof Taste. I aint made at her pronounciation since english is her second launguage lol.

"The fire test" is bullshit: you can run a flame back and forth a few times along the face of a leather or vinyl product and neither will melt or catch fire because you're simply not heating it up enough in any particular spot. Now if you keep the flame in one place for multiple seconds, _both_ leather and vinyl (or whatever other plasticky fake you have) with suffer damage, so that's no way to tell them apart. The only heat test I've heard of that sounded plausible was the melting test, where you would touch the material with a hot (but not glowing) soldering iron and see if it melts: plasticky fakes should melt; genuine leather should simply burn at the surface and turn black at the exact point of contact with the iron. (Never tried it myself though.)
@istvannenovak85459 жыл бұрын
You are wrong. We run a shoes store for years and we test shoes by a lighter and the difference is huge, clearly seen. Genuine leather will resist open flame for over 3 seconds without any burning or smoke, no traces at all wehile fake leather will burn or melt or discolorize after 3 sec. And will have a bad burnt plastic smell.
@d0nj039 жыл бұрын
Novák Mária Is that 3 seconds of moving the flame back and forth or 3 seconds of keeping the flame in one place?

Your comment really made me laugh. Testing leather with fire is really dangerous as one of my friends found out. After his date assured him that her pants were real leather, he decided to stub his cigarette out on her ass. It gave a whole new meaning to the term "liar liar pants on fire". It also put a quick end to his evening with his hot date. He always wondered how she got home with the big melted hole in her pants.
@MaximRecoil7 жыл бұрын
>And will have a bad burnt plastic smell. Exactly.
@JewelHuq13 жыл бұрын
if i used 55% leather does it be real leather but we tell 100% leather? how you will differentiate
@wilsjane5 жыл бұрын
The terminology is very confusing. Full grain and top grain is real 100% leather, bur genuine leather is the lower layer that has been sanded and polished. It has some pvc sprayed on the surface to provide a finish, but this varies a great deal, depending on surface blemishes. On poor quality genuine leather, their may even be pvc filling holes in the skin. Since most of the strength of leather in in the surface, the lower split genuine leather is much easier to split or tear.
@BlueToronto4 жыл бұрын
@@wilsjane I think in Italy "vera pelle" which means real or genuine leather can be legitimately used to distinguish between real leather and fake leather without any reference to the "type' of leather (re: full, top, suede...)
@watercolorarttirthashankar20944 жыл бұрын
its true!!! only fire test can determine a real leather!!!
@wilsjane3 жыл бұрын
NON DESTRUCTIVE testing is not that simple. Although real leather is hard to burn it will start to shrink, but not melt. Sheep leather shrinks much faster than cow. Both will burn ultimately, but with a dry flame more like wood, with no melting or black smoke. Real leather will also go out once the heat is removed.

The term for “real” or “fake” should not be the standard when purchasing leather product. This is a term that came up from brands for marketing. The genuine leather is also real but it is not good quality leather. And how do you call a bonded leather? It is real but just stick together. A lot of brand write “real leather” on their tags for bonded leather. But bonded leather will start pealing just like vinyl after one or two years.

The best wallet I ever had is synthetic leather, and no animals were slaughtered....also, much of the leather from China is dog skin...think about it...China has no space for cows, but stacks of tortured dogs in rusty metal cages...how else can new leather gloves sell for $9.99? They have done DNA tests on cheap leather and found much of it to be dog... Years ago, leather was very expensive, but because of high demand, the cruelty has increased exponentially to keep up with demand for cheap leather. Also, the leather tanning process is very toxic for the workers and pollutes the water. Unfortunately, many people are too vain to consider the suffering that went into producing their accessories.
@MaximRecoil7 жыл бұрын
>The best wallet I ever had is synthetic leather That's a meaningless assertion. The best wallets are made from leather, regardless of what you've had for wallets and your opinions of them. Synthetic leather is junk. >also, much of the leather from China is dog skin No, there's no evidence that dog leather from China making its way into the U.S. is anything other than a rarity. It isn't even common in the Chinese marketplace. Also, who cares? Dogs aren't even remotely an endangered species. >China has no space for cows Is that a joke? Like all PETA morons, you're misinformed, as well as stupid - "China is a major player in the word beef industry in terms of production, consumption and, in recent years, trade." - www.uq.edu.au/agriculture/docs/CAEG/China.pdf Which do you think is more profitable for a major leather manufacturer to work with, giant cow hides or tiny dog hides? Larger hides maximize the efficiency of your workforce and your machinery, and there is a bigger market for them, because a wider variety of products can be made from them. A big leather manufacturer wouldn't dick around with small hides unless they were especially valuable, and dog hides are not. Plus, they can't even legally export them to most countries, including the U.S., so in addition to the loss of profits, they would be taking a legal risk trying to sell them outside of China. The only ones who would bother with dog hides would be small-time operations, and even then they would have to get the hides for free or dirt cheap to make it worthwhile.
