There is a big disconnect between what fragrance enthusiasts like and what actually sells. Once in a while, some fragrances become both critical & mainstream darlings, but usually if our favorites aren't selling, they'll most likely be gone sooner or later. Great video Ash! Very informative.

YSL Bleu Electrique was never discontinued in Europe. Looking at it now it appears it's discontinued in the UK as it's not on the official website and the only place that has it is Notino - who seem to get a lot of European stock. Also Prada l'homme intense is widely available in Europe.

We've got a drugstore rack in Canada that features discontinued fragrances all the time. Sometimes takes 2-3 years to sell out of the stock, but once it's gone, it's gone. Some examples - The Aramis fragrances, Oscar Pour Lui, Azzaro Pour Homme L'eau, Azzaro Visit, a couple Victorinox fragrances, L'eau d'Issey Intense, and most recently L'eau d'Issey Sport. There are times they sell out and return a couple of years later, but eventually they never return. Get 'em while you can.

I wore Bleu Electrique for the first time at work yesterday and it was compliment city. Its the hardest fragrance to find in the US. I almost canceled my Cool Water Parfum. I was looking for literally months to grab it. Sad that the best fragrances get canned.

Givenchy Pi Extreme was a scent I loved. Still have a half a bottle, but it would have been a bottle I replenished once empty, but not anymore. People tell me Givenchy Pi smells exactly the same but not as strong, but not sure if I will buy it. I usually look at the company’s website and see if the fragrance is still listed on there. And I will look at discounter sites and if I see “clearance sale”, that’s a red flag for me. But then I hear, sometimes these “clearance sales” are just trying to get rid of their inflated stock and the brand may still be safe, but still cause for concern.

Ralph Lauren discontinuing Purple Label set off every sad song in my head. Guts theme from Berzerk, that one track in Metal Gear Solid when that lady is just wailing Celine Dion freestyling, several M83 ambient tracks. It's not fair.

One thing that the community gets wrong on a regular basis though is that pulling an item from the US market doesn't mean it's "discontinued!". Discontinued means it's no longer in production. Product offerings vary by market. Whether it's the decision of the parent company, subsidiary, distributor etc. 🦑

An experience I had with this was Bvlgari Aqva Atlantique. So, I stalled on buying it due to it being readily available to everyone in box stores where I live and Duty Free's. When I eventually decided to buy it, it was long gone lol. Then when I heard Pure XS Night was discontinued, despite there being like 100 bottles in the same box stores available I scooped up 2 bottles for $50 each to avoid losing out on owning it lol. To this day they are still available but don't want to run the risk again

Absolutely! Me too! I used to think that the management of the Coty/Gucci license was the absolute worst... watching the quick discontinuance of such gems as Rush, Envy, PH 1 & 2. Then we watched L'Oreal management immediately erase the entire Amen line after the brand acquisition. As a fraghead and a capitalist, I wish that both Francoise Bettencourt Meyers and the Reimann family would be better served by their managerial employees... at least as related to men's fragrances! 😂

I was just doing the math on that one... and crying inside a bit again, too. 🤣 Envy is also one of my all-time favs! Unfortunately, I only have a clone of it now... Last week, I lost two actions on bottles. I went to $200/ea, and they sold for about $250 each. I see them selling fir more sometimes. I suppose I'll have to break down and pay $300, or more... but it pains me to do so, knowing how much I used to pay for them! I was also being reminded by this video of Ash's of feeling tricked and cheated when I believed the comments online that Midnight in Paris wouldn't be disco'd! I got one for about $40 back then, as I recall. But I wasn't smart enough then to get a backup bottle... and then completely missed out on the Bvlgari hockey puck--which had always been ranked as a lesser fragrance. Definitely wish I'd picked up at least one of those now, too! 🤣

I found adg profumo at a discount fragrance store at my local mall like a month ago. I was surprised no one had bought it. I also bought midnight in paris, guerlain ideal cologne and gucci pour homme 2 before they had went up. Im just glad i picked up my bottles of pure havane and pure malt which im wearing atm. I was talking to a sells rep that work for dior but she was at macy and i had asked her why dont they ever have dhi and she said only certain macy get them not all macy stores. My next purchase will be 2 5oz bottles of dhi just to be safe cuz i have a weird feeling but i do have a old bottle thats running low 😂

I can't find drakkar noir on any websites but somehow tj Maxx has a drakkar factory in the back because they keep getting it for the last 15 years non stop. Maybe there's millions of bottles they discontinue it for a few seasons and bring it back eventually when inventory gets low at distributors or just reformulate and make more flankers. It happened to the very fragrance that got me into fragrances. I was a couple of months into collecting, and I searched up "YSL Y Eau Fraiche", and it was nowhere to be found. I drove to the mall to check if it was there. It was gone. I had no idea, and no one else realized it either. Luckily, I was able to buy a backup bottle from Nordstrom Rack a couple weeks later, but these discontinuations can be quite random

This is the reason I always buy my fragrances @ retail IF I sincerely LOVE the fragrance. Which has been numerous instances. I get it, everyone wants to save money here, but we wait until they hit retailers, and then shortly afterwards, it gets hyped, then discontinued. We have to buy these fragrances in retail stores if we don't want them to be discontinued.

Guys, the one and only way to know for sure if a fragrance is discontinued is by just going to the website of the brand, for example Dior, and look through their fragrance lineup. If it's discontinued, they no longer feature it on their brand website. Simple as that. I don't have time for 18 minute ramblings without a conclusive answer lol

Inaccurate. Sorry I don't believe contacting these companies directly isn't effective. George (Fragrance Apprentice) sorta proved that by calling companies directly, speaking with an actual person, recording the conversations and making videos about it. Frankly, I think a lot of fragcom people are just plain afraid of speaking to people and do anything possible to avoid interacting with actual human beings not through a chat or comments.

I agree. Even the people working fragrance counters will have their manager tell them that they have upcoming remerchandising plans or that a certain product will get pulled sometimes months in advance, and they're willing to share that info if you talk to them nicely. Same type of people that will root around under the counter and see if they have any old testers kicking around and so on.
