Box stores like Kays will charge up to $800 for 1ct LGF ruby solitaire in simple 14 band. Only if questioned would they tell me. I quietly nonchalantly started asking questions on other stones. Was gently corralled to the exit. Caveat emptor.

I would like additional information . Gems mining most of the ruby fracture needs to be filled with glass or other compounds to facilitate grinding. Glass that can be filled with ruby divided according to chemical composition, there are several types as follows: 1. Soda-lime glass 2. Borosilicate glass 3. Lead glass or crystal glass This type of glass has more than 24% lead oxide and has a high refractive index. 4. Opal glass 5. Aluminosilicate glass 6.Alkaline-Earth Alumino silicate 7. Glass-Ceramics 8. Crown glass 9. Flint glass 10. Bismuth glass Because lead glass has good optical properties but is not durable and can dissolve in water, acids, and alkalis when used for a long time. Therefore, choose to buy gemstones that do not contain lead oxide , bismuth oxide and silica . Other types of glass the quality of gems will be different, such as bismuth glass. However, when purchasing gemstones, you should choose and be inspected with an X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) tool only because it can determine the amount of lead in percent. To consider the appropriate purchase price.

Thank you for your insight regarding this. It looks like you are quite knowledgeable regarding the different substances used to fill inside glass-filled rubies. But I guess my question will be if the labs classified all above as 'glass-filled rubies or composite rubies?' Also, I believe currently they don't identify to us what type of glass is filled in the ruby even though they do have test with 'X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) tool.' Thanks & Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

I have a ruby, but I’m not sure if it’s a real,genuine one. I tried to cut the mirror with it and it cut the surface of the mirror,it’s very clear you can see through it and it’s red blood color and feel very heavy in your hand,are all these characteristics,proven it’s a genuine and natural ruby? Thanks
@ThaiNativeGems
@ThaiNativeGems Жыл бұрын
Hi, The best way to check if the ruby you have is genuine or not is by submitting it reliable third-party laboratory (blog post on this: www.buygemstone.info/what-lab-or-certification-is-the-best-for-checking-your-expensive-ruby-sapphire-or-emerald/) or showing to an experienced gemologist. Your test just proves the substance you have is harder than glass Mohs scale 5.5 to 7, which is a good sign. Weight test (or Specific Gravity test) is very sensitive and cannot be done by feeling it on your hand and need to measure accurately. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

great video simple and straight to the point just one question whats the difference between a heated and unheated ruby (natural heat) does it effect the color of the ruby or does it make it less valuable??
@ThaiNativeGems
@ThaiNativeGems 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Roham, Great explaination was provided by blue copper above. In summary, rubies are treated because in their natural state they weren't as "attractive." Treatment makes them more saleable. But because treatment rubies are less rare they are less valuable than untreated rubies. Thanks for the question. Will be uploading a video in how much 1 carat ruby cost soon which will explain this. I bought a gorgeous ruby ring. It would have cost me thousands of dollars had they not been glass filled. It was in a gold over silver casting. The jeweler said they are not real because she noticed they were in a gold over silver casting. It really pissed me off because she was acting like an expert but I am also a graduate gemologist. I told her they were glass filled rubies. They are absolutely gorgeous, and I could never afford them had they not been glass filled. Not all jewelers are gemologists, so keep that in mind when they share there "expert" opinion with you. Always ask for their credentials.

If you see no visible inclusions it's probably synthetic. Very rare to find a real ruby that's entirely or almost entirely free of inclusions. Watch some of his other videos on rubys and you'll know what to look for. Also if someone is pressuring you to buy quickly that's a red flag that it could well be fake. Take your time to learn so you don't make big mistake and lose money.

Where do I get lab-created emerald and rubies that are good quality, no fracture filling and heat treatment? Biron / Ramaura/ Chattam? And which is the best method for rubbies and which for emeralds? flux fussion / pulled Czochasky / hydrothermal ?

Does this apply to semp precious stones like garnet? Do the synthetics made of 100% glass also always have bubbles, the surface fracture and the clarity?
@ThaiNativeGems

Hi, Every gemstone have different properties so it is difficult to generalize if same rules applies in other semi-precious gemstones. For example, natural tourmaline they have liquid filled inclusions which look similar to gas bubbles. Now regarding treatment on 'garnets' I'm not sure if 'glass-filled' treatment will apply because usually garnets rough is a lot cleaner than rubies or sapphires. Yes, ruby cans show an orange hue inside, especially Mozambique origins. The only way to determine if the stone you have is garnet or ruby is to check the refractive index and if the stone is single refractive (which garnets or spinels are) or double refractive, which rubies or other corundum gemstones are. A third-party lab can check this quite quickly. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA Graduate Gemologist

Hello sir... I have a ruby gem and I already brought it to gemologist and he said that my ruby is synthetic but, my ruby is 9mohs, 9.36 carat, it has healed cracked clearly can see. But I don't really can't understand somehow the gemologist made me doubt by his decision. As I understand there's no cracked in synthetic ruby, he told me my ruby is synthetic lab grown ruby. Because I tot lab grown ruby is not a synthetic it's also a real ruby correct me if I'm wrong. And I seen too my ruby under his 200x microscope. I saw a very tiny bubble and he said it's is a fake but it is very hard to see without the microscope. What do u think sir? The gemologist firstly didn't sure whether my ruby a high valuable or fake, but after that he decided to say it's fake. My ruby has actually a healed long cracked and a very tiny bubbles.
@ThaiNativeGems
@ThaiNativeGems Жыл бұрын
Hi, Having cracks in stone doesn't discount it in being natural or not. Also, synthetics and natural rubies have exact same properties - the only difference is one is made in the lab and other is naturally mined. Good examples of 'included' synthetic stones can be seen in our KZbin channel we have made regarding synthetics rubies: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnmxXntva7Z2rc0si=wjQPXghPTVXJA4OZ - which all of synthetics were intentionally 'included' to trick the end consumer. So, the only way to see if natural or synthetic is by checking for signs (like a detective) and if the gemologist did check your stone and thinks is synthetic he must have saw some indications to make that conclusion. Anyways, thanks for your comment and good luck with your stone. Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

Sorry for the late response, just saw your message. We cannot generalize in how much inclusions a ruby should have as they are 'natural' gemstones and will have a lot of variations. Simple rule is if the ruby is big (in terms of carat weight), prefect red color, no inclusions and no treatment they will be exceptionally more expensive than other rubies in the market. This is because finding one is extremely difficult and rare. If any of these criteria is sacrificed the price will drop dramatically. Regards, Tarun Gupta, Graduate Gemologist (GIA)

Fake left real right?
@ThaiNativeGems
@ThaiNativeGems 4 жыл бұрын
Both are 'real' but the one in the left is highly treated with 'glass-lead' while the right is 100% natural, unheated & untreated. Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

Hi lellouche rene, We actually do have a video that explains about all ruby treatments plus the other 4Cs (carat weight, color, clarity and cut grade) and origin as well. Provided the link here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/paPRm4eAq56jopo If you want to avoid to hear all technical stuff in beginning of the video you can look at time stamps in video explanation below and click on microscope videos for heated ruby example. Hi Johnny, yes you can email the images at sales@thainativegems.com and I can take a look and let you know my thoughts. Of course, I cannot guarantee through pictures regarding the treatment as it really depends on the quality & accuracy of the image.

@ThaiNativeGems
@ThaiNativeGems 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry the microscope videos aren't very clear. The white spots in natural ruby is most probably dust or dirt on surface which is not the same has internal gas bubbles. Thanks for your feedback. Best Regards, Tarun Gupta, GIA GG

Good information regarding glass filled stones. I doubt synthetics have even remotely similar presentation of bubble artifacts, though. but, ... 26,000 dollars, ..., good thing your video was a little blurry, because those meets are atrocious pay me 5 grand, and I'll cut it into a $30,000 stone.

+fdsafdsafdsa Flame fusion rubies you can see gas bubbles, but as you stated it won't be 'as clear' The 3 carat (26k) stone as been sold. Though I might take up your offer for the next expensive stone I have on hand.
