I bought a brand new stihl 28 wood boss in 1980s and used it for firewood and hauled on the skidded for topping and emergency it had a rollmatic non replaceable tip. Owned it 15 years and still had the same bar when I traded it in not a lick of paint on it but surprised me and the saw shop that a bar lasted that long,he figured just what u said that it had more temper in it than most

I have a cannon light bar 28-in 0.50 gauge. I think it cost me around $240? But they are tough as anything I work the heck out of it and never had the rails close in or any chunks come out of the bar or the tip yet like you would see on other bars over time

Hi ya Pete. Good vid to share with some of the guys newer to saws. I have a .325 pitched 20'' Sugi on a 50cc classed Stihl. Love the light weight combo. I just purchased a 32'' Cannon Duralite for my 7910 Dolmar. You're absolutely correct, pricey isn't even the word for it. I haven't run it yet but it reeks of quality, not that the Sugi isn't. The Cannon better out live me for the cost .... lol. Love your content. A no BS channel, not looking for the subscribers tally. I love honesty in all. My hats off to ya brother for all ya do. Shortly after buying my first chainsaw I brought my first 25ft spool of chain to save some coin in 063 gauge by mistake, had to bed it in loose to spin then it was fine, I never new about the different gauges and was was ripping fence posts back then.

This is a very good vid. For someone like yourself that cuts everyday, the true hardened bar is the only way to go. I made a vid last March on how I fix a worn chainsaw bar. I included a link to this vid in the description of that vid. You brought up points I didn't.

I've found: 1. easy way to make a circle-cutter- dull a few teeth ON ONE SIDE ONLY and keep cutting; that'll wear the rail on that side; easy to true the rails on a bench grinder. 2. burr(s) on well-worn rails can snag maddeningly on sides of kerf; easy to trim off gently with flat file. Takes me forever to wear Oregon bars, but then I'm no pro, just a conscientious woodburner. I've been impressed with improvement over time of chinese bars/chain/brushcutter blades from Forester- again, I'm an amateur. Love your facts-based, low key, let's talk, approach.

The bar groove cleaning tool, has a depth guide on the other end to curve. Measure against driver / side tie strap & then run along bar groove to check depth is more than minimum.
