As a man who follows Jesus, I can relate to this guy. My marriage isn't exactly the same as his, but there are moments 😢 Honestly, getting grace and mercy from people is hard to come by. This is why I CONTINUE to follow Jesus even when at times I don't understand Him. Jesus is kinder than people.

Im a guy, and yea its kind of tough to have an issue with my lady, because if im upset about something she does or says, I have to find my calm to express it in a way that doesnt make her scared, then comfort her through the heavy subject, and reassure her that I wont leave. These are not bad things in abstract, but it makes the priority of me having a problem always feel like it sits lower on the rung than how she feels. Like my feeling will always be secondary.

Hi Yvette and glen, I'm a 26yr old single male from south africa and have been listening to the pod since 2020 but have never commented. This episode got me to comment coz OMG! This is a powerful conversation. Now we've had plenty of powerful discussions here but this one takes the cake coz its like GOD gave y'all a full circle moment with this one. I have laughed , cried and prayed for both of yall and chocolate babies especially around the times of episode 98 And now hearing you guys have this moment just made me so happy for both of you. You've taught me how to communicate in my relationships, you've taught me HOW TO HOLD/APPROACH A MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION in my relationships and a whole lot more that I won't have space to share here. It's been beautiful to watch both of y'all grow in GOD and LOVE and glen for the fact that I can't even go back and watch/listen to old episodes (coz of how toxic you were) just wanna say I'm proud of firstly the black boy in you and the grown ass man you've morphed into. I will be joining the community, I love this wedding party. P.S. I'm still not in a relationship coz of the things I learn from you guys, GOD is working on it though.

My wife told me about Frank Puppet while we were dating in 2019. I saw clips on the gram and thought we need this for our kids bro like the black Jim Henson. I rap, so not to far ahead the homies told me about this guy called Beleaf was one of their fav lyricists and to my surprise it’s the same person 😂 listened to most bro projects and randomly came across y’all podcast on my algorithm so I put my wife on. We’re going on 3yrs married this Sept, expecting our 1st child in a couple wks and y’all blessed us w/ your transparency and family. Would love to meet y’all one day. Oh Glen, I’m from PG. My wife from DC. May God continue to cover your family🏴🖤

Let's be honest. Women have a hard time being accountable for their part of the breakdowns that happen in relationships. It's takes a really long time for them to accept that their behavior needs to change. Whereas when women express their grievances, they want men to just see, hear, and adjust immediately. As a man that has been through this, it is extremely difficult to deal with, and it affects how close we can be in the relationship. Relationships are mirrors, and people hate to see their own flaws but love to call out the flaws of their partners.

My husband and I talk about this often. We have three young adult sons and we've shared with them that neither one of us are right 100% of the time. We have told them that they are not always wrong in their relationships and that women have stuff too. I really think that we as women need to do a better job of calling our sisters out on their crap so they are used to hearing it.

I think SOME women have this issue. I don't like conflict and I don't like unspoken issues in my relationships so I'm constantly checking to make sure we're good. And because I have great relationships, my ppl aren't asking me to make personality changes, but habitual changes. Some I'm still working on and some I've done better with..but I enjoy having those conversations honestly

Glen saying "I'm NOT saying I don't want to be with you. I'm saying this behavior is not appropriate." is sooooo good. Because I have dealt with abandonment issues anytime a guy would point out something I'm doing that needs to change would automatically, in my head, be received as rejection or that there's someone else he wants to be with or you don't want me. Instead of receiving the correction as my partner loving me enough to point out my inappropriate behavior. I had created a fantasy of how the relationship is supposed to go and instead of facing the reality of the relationship. The people pleaser in me would shut down due to the expectation of wanting my guy to always be happy with me. But that's not the truth I should lead with. The truth is if i do something that feels disrespectful to my partner then he has every right to come to me and address it with an expectation that I will hear him and correct my behavior so the relationship can continue in a healthy way. Thank you Glen and Yvette for this transparent and vulnerable conversation. I grow every time I watch the pod. I wish I was more aware of my flaws as wife before the divorce. But I'm glad I know now so I can be a better wife and friend to my future husband. God bless you , your family and the vision of your podcast/Brand.

I have never been married yet. But this is a lesson I have had to learn in my close sisterhoods/friendships. Had to learn the skill of not thinking that people see me as a failure of a human because they point out a moment or a habit where I have failed. And I agree that Ivette is correct when she says it feels like it’s so big in the moment when it gets pointed out. Sometimes it can feel like the person is telling you that they’re done with you because they’re pointing out the behavior. but that is a trauma response and it’s not ever as big as it feels as long as we are willing to grow

Whew this was a hard episode to listen to and I don’t have the answers for how to dissociate behavior from attack on who you are at your core as a person. It’s hard for the person feeling attacked and hard for the person expressing their disdain. I think safety with the person expressing disdain is huge tho. If I don’t feel like I’m in a safe space with someone who truly loves me and seeks to understand me it’s VERY hard to not brace myself against a potential threat/enemy. ESP when no one else in my life has given me that same feedback. & just because your “married” and work well as “partners” with the logistics does not mean you emotionally feel that level of safety. So yeah hard situation to crack with just two people alone

I think because women will “deal” with so much but not speak up so when we do or when we act out we feel justified cause “ you don’t know how much I deal withhhhh! “ especially as a black woman it’s such a toxic trait! We do things and don’t even realize how negative it is… I told my husband the other day I’ll let you take the car… language like that , I’m unaware but to him it’s like he has to ask for permission when I didn’t even mean it that way luckily I was able to correct myself. But yeah it happens on both ends but us women do struggle saying I AM THE PROBLEM LOL

Three pints of blood, 5 days in the hospital, a colonoscopy and one hemorrhoids surgery later, he agrees it wasn't normal. Lol. We made an agreement to never dismiss each other again. Thank you for the vulnerability, Family. A lot was said on the side of men being the receivers of neglect, hurt, dismissal from women. This conversation was so important and teaching. I'm only already dating who I wanna marry but this counts in our relationship as well. How men's feelings can be overlooked, misinterpreted or just not acknowledged. Thank you so much for this!!! I've been watching for like 3 years now but this episode finally catered to the mans experience and how they can be recognised and given grace, is amazing. Thank you. I'm female by the way lol. i sooooo relate to this lady the man speaks of…. it takes me getting out of a “shame cycle” to be even able to hear my man’s heart in giving me constructive feedback. glenn saying “i have to pull away” (basically to get yvette’s attention) this is interesting to me. one thing i hope for in my marriage is that we can be lovingly direct when something happens which is either knowingly or unknowingly hurtful. the passive/ pull- away/ shut down approach is hard to withstand as a people-pleaser enneagram 2. it feels like punishment to me. currently, i so appreciate and try myself to be well-timed and direct when someone else’s behavior is (in my opinion) hurtful, anti-productive etc.
