Always use twisted pairs per standard telephone practices to reduce the possibility of noise pickup especially if your cables are long and/or used in areas where they may be suscepitable to EMI from other electronic/electric devices.

But you're not using pairs properly. You're using four wires, one from each of the four pairs. Best phone wiring, especially when modem or router is involved, would use a twisted pair for then main phone line. Blue and white/blue for example.

Ummm no. Connecting a RJ45 to a RJ11, actually used for a fax line that goes to a POTS on a router. I think you’re missing why I did this. Was to connect a rj11 to a rj45. Gee magic years later last I knew that line is still in use and working like a champ.

Just a question I have if you may mind me, I am buying old dated house from 60s and one of the first things is changing the molding inside, can I buy a cat5, cat5e, cat6 or cat3 and wire that into a phone jack and just add a plain rj11 end on the other side, I am using cheap VoIP) Obihai/xlink gateway. I do not have a network interface device unfortunately so that’s why I need to just add a rj11 end.

Do you have to use pins 3-6 for rj45, or can you use any?
@samm14625 жыл бұрын
Any, just has to be the same pin/color on the other end

@@samm1462 thanks Sam, so pin 3 orange A end to pin3 orange B end etc.

Pft! Ah you’re one of those people. Ok make a video using the correct vernacular at 1:55. I would assume either immune to your own mistakes or can issue criticism but has a hard time accepting it.

I have a modem with an Ethernet output port which can clipped to RJ45, and a router which has a RJ11 input, I.e. telephone input, so can this method be used to solve the issue of connecting a RJ45 output to RJ11 input and get better wifi?

would this work for cat6
@ZacharyDickinson047 жыл бұрын
yes
@auntiecarol6 жыл бұрын
No. Cat 6 is too thick a cable to get into an RJ11 plug. Use RJ12s... they are can be used in RJ11 sockets. The pinout is the same.

Not mentioned color code of wires. 👎👎👎
@samm14623 ай бұрын
Doesn’t matter. As long as they are the same on both ends.
