Great advice for 12v glow plugs but will destroy glow plugs on most european cars as they are 4.4v . So if you have 4.4v or less than 12v dont connect them directly t the battery.

Great video!! I like how you demonstrated step by step the process of testing those glow plugs. Also, It was great how you explained the multiemeter and how to use it. The glow test was 👌 awesome never seen that before. Your speech is great in timing not fast and easy to follow. Can you do a video on how to use the mutimeter settings with examples?💪💪👍👍🙋🙋🙆🙆

Thanks, very well done. I just checked the removed glow plugs from my just Ford diesel that’s local shop replaced to fix the cold start problem. New glow plugs did not solv the cold start problem. All the old glow plugs checked out at .2 ohms and heat up really quickly and glow. Apparently the local diesel repair shop failed to check the controller. I will have to check the glow plug controller.

Love these videos. Fun and actually explain something clearly. Now to test my glow plugs. Will have to test tomorrow as not got the light now and it's bloody freezing outside. But will order some plugs in the mean time, as they are cheap at the moment, and my mate says I definitely have possibly some faulty ones. Cheers and Subscribed

Thanks Lee! I am glad it helped you out. If one of glow plugs burned rest of them will go pretty soon if they were not replaced recently. As cheap farm fix sometimes you just find bad one and replace it. Also check, make sure your glow plugs relay works properly. What vehicle do you have?

@@PistonShack Have a 2010 Toyota Verso. It's a pretty reliable car compared to previous models, and has been great so far. I've never hammered it since I bought it new, so it's in pretty good condition. I think it is just due for various service parts, such as oil and filter but will test the relay too.

On most testers, if you clip leads together you can hold the button which will zero the meter. It deducts the resistance from the leads. Good demonstration...

If a glow plug fails in the engine, will the ECU have an OBDII code?
@vincentgranville9642 жыл бұрын
Mine were shot Between 8,5 - 8,9 Ohms. They actually still looked pretty good but looks can be deceptive. Just thought I'd add that I have an old 2000 Fiat Punto 1.9D and it doesn't have all the modern tech of today's cars to detect when things are going. It's purely done by how the car feels and drives.

Hello. Thank you very much for your video. One question please: I need to change them. But I can buy 4 glow plugs of 0,5 ohm-s or 1 ohm-s. Which one is better??? 1 ohm??? 0,5 ohm??? These are cheaper, almost half price than the 1 ohm-s. Thank you very much. Have a nice day.

Thanks for the video. I see all of the resistance do not meet the specifications. It should be 1 ohm. Isn’t that a little low or it’s still fine? Thanks
@PistonShack2 жыл бұрын
Hey Makoy! Resistance will depend from the type of the glow plug - metal or ceramic. I would refer to specific make and model manufactures value. What engine do you have?

First off great video! But question: I tried testing the 12639701 9G glow plugs by connecting to a 12 V U1-145 valuecraft battery. The glow plug heated up instantly and burnt out even faster. It won’t relight. I tried this with 5 out of the 8 that came and same thing. Do I need to decrease the current output from the battery, as it’s a starter battery with 200+ cranking amps? Thanks in advance!
@PistonShack2 жыл бұрын
Hey John. Based on serial number of your glow plug. It's glow plug from Duramax diesel. Decrease voltage to 4.5V to light the glow plug for few seconds.
@careytucker93172 жыл бұрын
Sorry but you killed those plugs. The plugs I have list the recommended voltage on them in fine print. You'll need to order new plugs if they wont relight and come up with a lower voltage testing method.

get a cheap Ohm-meter and test do an on-engine test between the chassis (car metal body) and the center pin of the glow plug. an OL (over limit) value means the glow plug is completely dead open, a value between 0 and 2 Ohms that should be fine. a higher value > 4Ohms, just replace it. (better replace all of the glow plugs at once to keep a consistent life span)

duetz 650KVA genset glow plug continously bursting even we resolve the issue of continous supply. will it be the issue of material because genuine plug aren't available for genset? response to my query will be highly appreciated
@PistonShack3 жыл бұрын
Seems like you have issue with timing glow plug relay or main glow plug control side bridged permanently. I wont worry about plugs right now. You can also install glow plug manual push button to control glowing time or used some other parts available.

Hey brotha! Check if you get voltage to the slow plug distribution wire. If not check for constant power at the glow plugs relay. Also check for switched voltage or ground (when key turned ON) at the relay depends from the circuit layout.

What’s the resistance when they’re hot? It be nice to know what current they pull when hot.
@PistonShack3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark. I won't worry about hot resistance, just read plug is cold. Good glow plug should test around 0.5-1.0 Ohm resistance. Just use Ohm formula to find current draw I=V/R for one plug them x number of glow plugs.
