Hi Ken, another good test is with a megger, i have a hand cranked one which generates 500 volts DC when you turn the handle, its to check insulation from either of the terminals to ground (outer metal), better than a continuity tester /digital multitester, also as you say across the terminals i guess you get some resistance and not a dead short...i have had a lot of trouble with the top rings throwing the RCD out, they short to ground, fitted several over the years....you can always try a continuity tester from metal outer element to terminals you might get a short to ground, i did with 2....Fred in Essex.

no i would not do this as it could damage or cause partial breakdown of the dielectric separating the inner conductor to the outer tube..

Is it as simple as if you have resistance Orapi it's functional and if you don't you have a short it's not

Resistance or a Beep = working. Short where there's not meant to be = fault ?
