@@ShellyBomb you could probably replace the entire window switch control, it could just be a broken switch, it comes out with clips usually so youd need a plastic spudger (tool to pry the switch panel out without damaging anything), if you need, there is probably youtube tutorials, dont be scared to work on your vehicle.

I've been maintaining and repairing my cars etc for 57 years. One of my older cars (one of many I have) is a 1990 TWR Jaguar XJS 3.6 manual in mint condition with only 41k miles on the clock. I've owned this one for 8 years and the passenger side window has always been stuck closed. I could tell it was getting power as there was a small dip in the brightness of lights when the switch was pressed but it would never move. Then I watched this and went straight out to try the door-slam trick. I opened the door. pressed the switch and firmly closed the door. Nothing. I did it again. Nothing. I did it again and down came the window!! Thanks a whole lot, Scotty. Just shows your're never to old to learn!! If I ever meet you I will buy you a beer or ten!!

*My 2013 Ford Edge Limited AWD only had an automatic window for the driver's side. The other windows were regular power windows. So I removed the master switch assembly on the driver's door and replaced it with one from a 2013 Lincoln MKX, replaced the regular switch on the passenger side with an automatic switch, changed out the passenger window motor, purchased the proper wiring harnesses, ran a single additional wire from the driver's door to the passenger door for master control of the automatic passenger window, and connected all the proper wiring in both doors. Now I have automatic windows on the driver's side and the passenger side. It was fun.*

Here's one more: 2 of the windows in my 2007 Nissan Murano stopped working within a few weeks of each other when the weather was hot. My air conditioner was also broken. I suspect snow fell in the window switch when I rolled the window down that winter. After thinking about the possible causes for weeks (and looking at the prices for replacement assemblies online), I took the switches out, took them apart, and looked at the contacts. They had black deposits on them from years of overuse, so I sprayed some De-oxit contact cleaner on it and rubbed the black stuff off. Worked like a charm.

love the videos Scotty. I fixed my power windows with LPS 1 spray. I think my better half spilled a coffee in the master window control last year. LPS 1 is a greaseless lubricant, repels water, cleans and restores electrical boards. Just take the controller apart as much as your comfortable and spray away inside it. I then blow it out with air very well. I have fixed 2 very expensive electronic parts with it. 2 for 2. Use at your own risk though, I am no expert, but it worked great for me. This would be a good product to feature!

Electric windows do have a controller for each motor that senses the current. When the window reaches a mechanical limit, the motor slows down and the current goes up. The controller keeps the voltage applied for maybe 1/2 second, then shuts off the motor. Window motors used to have a circuit breaker to avoid high stall current.

I have had very few window problems over the years, but all my problems were mechanical - a guide, a roller, or snubber out of adjustment [or broken] allowing the glass to tilt out of good geometry and jamming in the track- registers were fine. The real trick is always how to get the inside door panel off with zero damage to get at things to inspect & fix - some cars require special tools to release snap in style retainers, which work way better than just poking a screwdriver around haphazardly..

I've been doing this for decades. I've had to replace just one window motor...in an Astro with 240,000 miles. One thing I can tell you, sand in the track will cause a lot of problems. This happened to a Jeep, which I just moved on to a guy who saw the diamond in the rough I was offering. Sand had gotten on it from road sand for snow here in Wisconsin. Buggered it all sorts of up. Dead of winter is no time to be putting water on your window tracks unless you're ok with a window frozen shut till May. The grinding was awful and the window motor was straining against the abrasive sand. I knew it was a short time before I moved it on, just needed it to get through this winter. Bought a RAV4 per Scotty's recommendations.

i open all 4 windows almost everyday in the driveway for 2hours or so before daily-driving it. reduce chance of window sticking, and you have no odor in your car. this habit and a silicon spray ensure not only my window is stick-free but it is all running at the same speed. i hate it when the left rear window is slower or faster than the right one.

I was looking for regulators and motors before I came across this video, because my front passenger was going up slowly. I used a silicone spray, and it immediately worked! Thanks again, Scotty!

I have auto-up and down windows in my truck. One time when I pushed the auto-down and released the button the window stopped. I went by the dealer and the tech writer opened the door and did something and it was fixed. He told me if the auto up and down feature has a computer module on it and If it acted up I should hold the button down 3 seconds after the window goes all the way down and do it again when the window go all the way up. He says it re-programs the computer module board in the door.

@@pakmeigen6359 It was a 2016 RAM Laramie. I believe this may work in a lot of the electric windows.

I also made sure that the plastic seals weren't stuck on the window as much as i could, slightly pushing window in and out to allow more movement. Then it finally came down

Dunno how it is in USA, but here in Australia power windows have load and limit switches so the motor just turns off when the window shuts all the way, or if something gets in the way.

When I bought a used 2001 CRV a few months ago I noticed the windows sounded like they were struggling. Found an old video of yours taking about this silicone spray and I sprayed that in the tracks. After it soaked the whole track, the windows are much, much better. They run faster and with less noise. Good you remade the video for newer viewers to find

You didn't mention that in my case I try to get the window to stop near the top to keep the car cool but the automatic action wants to send the window all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom no matter how I press the switch. It takes me a number of presses to get it to stop where I want it.

Funny, I learned this when I was 8, I'm over 50 now, sad adults need to be taught this, maybe not, never to old to learn, ty Scotty

I see where you’re coming from. But as a 21 year olds female, who never had a dad around to teach me these things, I find videos like this very helpful. I don’t think it’s cool to bash on people for needing to learn things- especially if it’s not common knowledge. Everyone has different areas of expertise and exposure. You just happened to be exposed to this kind of stuff from an early age!

Wow, this actually worked. Freed up 3 of 4 windows on a 2000 Intrepid that belongs to my son. Car is 19 years old with only 30K on the clock....but weather has taken its toll on the weatherstripping. All four are working now with the cheapo wal-mart silione.
