Thankyou. I found out after looking at this video and checking the coils on my sc400, that My mechanic didn’t secure the cam sensor wires , so the cam wire was cut by the fan belt, led To a crank no start. My mechanic not knowing better, Or checking,,, excessively jumped it trying to start, leading to cooked the coils. So I towed it home and I found the damaged cam sensor wire, fixed it. Saw your video and checked coils. I had spare and changed. Great! Got my SC400 back. What a don’t understand is 2 mechanic shops couldn’t fix it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏 I will repay you. Excellent video, clear, concise, and naturally born instructor. This video just saved me a couple thousand dollars. I had techs telling me a "dead cylinder, coil packs .... LIKE YOUR'S .... don't go out/bad" "it's the internal motor that needs to be repaired BUT we won't know until we get it open..." I used your hose to plug test on the miss fire cylinder (#3) = No Spark. I used the same test on Cylinder 1, 2, & 4 and all of them had spark! Just replaced the coil pack I purchased in stock from Autozone for $68.00 and the Jeep is purring like a kitten again - THANK YOU!

This is a great video and it helped me with what I need but please everyone reading this DO NOT default to back probing. Make sure you know what the manufacturer of your vehicle recommends for testing. Some manufacturers specifically do not want you to back probe. It can cause damage to connections and terminals. If a manufacturer says back probing is ok make sure to grab a back probe adapter for your DMM. A paper clip works but if you accidentally cut a wire or damage a wire it can cause an open or high resistance in the wire. Possibly a short to ground if it's close to metal or a terminal. Just so you guys are aware :P

Much easier way to check for spark; hook up a timing light! Connect the timing light to the plug wire, start engine, light flashes, you have spark, move to the next cable. That only proves spark, it could be a weak spark, so you should test the wires and coil to ensure they're within specs. Also check that the plugs are in good shape and correct gap.

What you do is swap coils and see if the problem transfers. If it doesn’t, check your fuel injector to see if it has power going to it. Then by seeing what the recommended ohm reading is and test with ohmmeter. If the fuel injector is ok, THEN watch this video and do all the other steps.

Great video, I drove my 2000 Toyota Tacoma without making fluids change after being parked for 5 years and after replacing the fuel pump; old fuel in tank, old oil still, old coolant not fluid changes I thought to drive it like 15 min to get everything moving and come to do oil and coolant change; in the time I drove it like 30 miles the vehicle raised the temp gauge, I pulled over right away not letting it reach the top of gauge and drove slowly back home; I parked and when I tried to start again it wont start at all. Called same mechanic who replaced the fuel pump; explained and he did compression test; cyl 1 and 3 have zero but cyl 2 and 4 have 180 PSI. He diagnosed a blown head gasket; he said driving the car with old fluids and low in coolant did it after engine reached operating temperature but nowaday I am getting it all apart to replace the gasket; drained the coolant and it was dark maroon color, oil does not look milky at all.....do I really have a blown head gasket or maybe the car overheated briefly and did not blow the head but the coils failed? usually head gasket one loses compression on one cyl or maybe 2 adjacent but 1-3 or 2-4??? I am trying to apply logic here at this point the head is still in the car, I am about to take it out and it would suck to find it intact! i mean it would be good but I have no car right now and have expended $1400 in a new head and parts from rockauto to replace; I cant help but wondering if I have bad coils and with this video I certainly would like to find out; I guess if i get all the way down to the head and it is intact and not blown got to backtrack and find out why compression only present in 2 cyl the way it is; in this vehicle cyl are numbered in a row from front to back 1,2,3,4, headgasket blown should show no compression on 1-2 or 3-4 or one individual cyl but 1-3?????? WTF?

The best coil pack video on KZbin: I have a question 🙋♂️ is it possible to bypass the coil pack to get spark?
@bonecrusher17774 жыл бұрын
@ionel Renault Clio No. The coil's job is to convert the low power (12v) to a high power (30,000v) for the electricity to jump, creating spark
@bonecrusher17773 жыл бұрын
@Masked Vigilante I don't believe so. With spark present and no matter the Voltage, the Air/Fuel Mixture should ignite and cause combustion, driving the engine. Some cars have the coil packs convert to 20kV (or 20, 000V) and they run just fine. But my thinking may be wrong.

I necessarily dont trust ohmmeter testing other than checking surface resistance like corrosion. Reason being is a your could cut all but one thread in a wire and when you test both ends of the wire it will show very low resistance. Not necessarily the best test for resistance

some coil packs have a built in igniter circuit so this primary test wont work, if you have a 4 cylinder with a 'wasted spark' coil pack like the one in the video and it has more than 3 pins in the socket from the wiring loom then it probably has built in igniters

RATCHETS & WRENCHES, why does COP coil over plugs have multiple ignition coils? older 60's & 70s cars only use "one" ignition coils to fire all 8 spark plugs. So I'm confused why fuel injectors need multiple ignition coils any reasons why?
@Snowdog2162 жыл бұрын
My best guess that either you have a coil pack, over spark plug coil packs, or a distributor. The distributor has one power sources in, it spins and sends power to the individual spark plugs.

I tested the coil pack using the method mentioned above, i on my primaries i had 0.9-1ohm on 2 of the switching circuit but only 0.3 ohms on the last circuit. Is this a bad coil or still within spec? I was expecting O/L but but with this reading its a bit difficult to say for certain. If someone has an answer please let me know 😁👌 I will be testing sparks next with a fresh battery but if anyone can give me an answer thatll be great heads up, thanks.
