Thanks for making these videos! I recently picked up a non running 78 ke100, I replaced the coil, plug, points and condenser, still had no spark. I watched this and couple other of your videos and figured out a few things I didnt set up right. I think the main thing was I did a bad job soldering the wires on the condenser. Now I have spark and the bike is a lot closer to running.

Dear Kevin, Great tutorial. But... I am testing a 1972 yamaha 100 enduro lt2. No spark condition. Replaced coil, spark plugs, rectifier. points, condenser... etc. I have 3 coils in this stator. One is the source coil, one is the charging coil and one is the lighting coil. This vintage bike is 6V and has one set of points and one condenser. The points are connected to the condenser with a blue wire and 2 of the coils are connected to the condenser. So 3 wires are soldered to the condenser. The condenser is bolted to the stator plate obviously. The black wire coming out of the stator wire loom about 15 inches from the stator is connected to the orange wire coming off the main coil (primary coil input) up above under the gas tank. It does not have 2 wires coming off that coil... just one. I guess the ground to the coil is through the 2 bolts to the frame. The black wire (coming out of the stator wire loom) is evidently also looping/going up to the headlight area where there is a rat nest of wires on this old bike. I am not sure if this area has the black wire hooked up properly as my son disconnected some wires while replacing the headlamp. I assume that when the key switch is in the OFF position it's acting as a Kill switch. Key off... coil is grounded. Key in position II or III the wire is not grounded anymore... so coil/spark plug should work. I have run all the stator tests for resistance and such. Pretty sure all tests pass... but the wires running to the condenser are giving me grief. Even put a piece of cardboard between the points but still get resistance readings. I have taken the coils off and tested them as well. Getting resistance readings. I cannot test the coils on the stator plate because of the condenser bolted to the stator plate. I've tried many, many tests. I'm so confused at this point. I am going to assume the new points, new condenser and 3 coils are good at this point. NOW... To make sure I am bypassing any incorrectly plugged in wires behind the head light... I am wondering if I jump ( 5 inch piece of wire) the black wire (coming out of the stator wire loom) directly to the main coil under the gas tank (orange wire into the primary windings of the coil)... if I "will get" or "should get spark". Help! Thx BQ -

Great informative channel! I’ve learned a lot about my newly acquired ‘74 KE100. The previous owner replaced the capacitor and points. Bike ran great for a while then started acting up and not starting. I found that the blue wire was incorrectly routed and wore thru because it was in contact with flywheel. I fixed break and reassembled. Zero spark now. Going to go back in a check a few things I learned from you. What’s the correct way to route the blue wire? Does it go behind coil plate?

The bike just pops or stumbles for a second then floods. It only floods after a couple of kicks. The plug is wet with fuel. Do you think it’s a timing issue? Thank you so much for your help. I finally got the km100 started. It’s wierd. My gap ended up being .004 of an inch. I tried .013 and .012 and it still would just flood. I ended up disconnecting the wire off the points and gapping it so that when the timing mark matched up it was a break in my multimeter. And it worked. Would you know why my signals don’t flash? When I turn them on they just get brighter. Also the neutral light dosnt work and my high beam light turns on when the low beam is on and turns off when the high beam turns on. Thanks again for all your videos I would not have gotten this bike together with out your help.

Thanks. You asked for it so here you have it :D ; I have the same style Bosch system in a 2 wheel tractor with a long time legacy 1 cyl engine from the late 1950´s. From what I can find when searching part read Bosch numbers, I find various Vespa and others mopeds + 125ccm´s with multitudes of charge coil outputs. Mine has a measly 12V 12w charge output, cant power diddle. I´d like to upgrade it a lot and upgrade to electronic spark while at it. How much does the physical geometries/physics of spool plate and flywheel/magnet strength compabilities variate to these ? Chef´s thing, or is it very picky ? Is there fits all soultions offered?

After coming to the conclusion, the exciting coil is possibly open (the ad on kijiji stated "no spark") I decided to sent the coil out to be rewound in the USA. Last look on Ebay a week ago, a gentleman in Quebec was selling the stator assembly and magneto off a 1981 KE100. Received it this past Sunday. Canada Post is working OT for Christmas. Never had to set the points ...nada. Installed it on the bike and got a spark. Is the output limited to 6 volts max from the lighting coils? We need a new lights and speedometer. We do not have a 6 volt regulator. Could we use a 12 volt regulator?

so i'm trying to repair a yamaha gt 50 for my father current and main issue outside tank full of gunk is no spark. The spark plug is fine, spark plug cap(had to be replaced no continuity), ignition coil(has correct ohms reading 6.4) and has continuity to the spark plug cap so its fine), the condenser seem to be charging and discharging with the multimeter so its also good, rectifier is busted but its not an issue to get spark i guess, so my guess now is stator or maybe a short somewhere, but thing is i saw a spark once or twice but out of 50 tries or more so shoudn't be a short i would like an expert opinion on if the stator might be the cause. Update out of the stator is coming max 5V with the kickstarter, idk if it correct to test the ohms of the coil like this but from the black wire to ground i get 1.4 ohms factory says 1.3+- 10% so its in range

@@2strokeguru the tab that holds the wire onto the condenser came off & I soldered it back on, but it looks fine. Could that be my issue?

Make your mind up, it’s either open circuit or short circuit, not both! In this case it’s open circuit!

When the points close its a short When the points open its open circuit points are nothing more than a high speed switch so both

@@2strokeguru Without the cam which is in the flywheel the points would be closed and so the black wire would have read short to earth, with the points open assuming the condenser is not short it should read a couple of ohms through the coil winding.

Uhmm, that reading is showing in the book one half of an ohm not 5 ohms. Using an volt ohm meter improperly will not help when diagnosing, just saying. Also, you are on the wrong scale to read low ohms, you have it set on the 20k or 20,000 ohm scale in other words. You can't read accurately anything down at a .5 ohms.

I have a quick question In regards to my two coils for charging the battery I have one that has large copper coilings and one has smaller Coilings on it. Will this set up charge my battery and run my turn signals or do I i need both coils to match? Working on a 1976 km100.
