Hello really awesome diagnostic , I have a question In negotiations to by a 2011 535i get it is havening water pump issues ..it has 4 codes 20A909 BSD WATER PUMP MISSING 20A902 reduced power cooling system voltage too low 20AB08 COOLING SYSEM NO EMERGENCY SIGNAL AT WATER PUMP ..AND 20A701 COOLANT MOTOR SPEED OUTSIDE OF TOLERANCE ..I used launch x431 to pull codes ..i i didn't do actuation test however the pump was running and operating ..all the codes say intermittent except 20ABO8..does this sound like more than the pump in your opinion

Thank you for mentioning the Wakeup signal, a lot of tech forget about this input that might only be a flash voltage, and then it's gone. Thank you for using the component ground for testing, no separate ground load test is needed, knock it out in one go. If there is an issue then do a voltage drop test on the circuit. You are saying there is no COMM from the pump back to the DME, most folks won't know the difference with and without COMM. I do not know if a water pump was changed with a wrong part number or a cheap Chinese component, is it possible that the wrong pump will have the wrong LIN Header signature similar to a wrong part number Alternator with the wrong LIN Header which will be a no COMM also?? Nice collection of DONOR parts that I notice that you have on some jobs. When a Chinese scanner shows a test, it does not mean that it can be performed, I have been told that when a Snap-On lists a test, it will happen??? You and I can see the difference in the LIN waveform but if a viewer had a simple scope, would they know the bad signal as it looks fine to to untrained eye? I wish you would have shown a close-up of the 2 different LIN Signals on the same time scale as well with some explanation, cheers.

through the coolant bleed procedure, key on engine off, heat to highest temp output, fan lowest speed setting, press gas pedal down as soon as key on and hold pedal for 10 seconds then let go.... that should get the pump going and it will run for 12 minutes. Thats how you perform the bleed on the ones with electric pumps, make sure to have battery charger hooked up.

Yes, you are right, the older ones were on bsd network that tied into other modules, this one is direct lin from dme only.

Am I correct to say it’s because the water pump do not need to run at key on engine off that’s the reason you can’t carry out a bidirectional control using the aftermarket scan tools

That could be a possibility, but one would think that activating key on engine off would be a good way of testing for its operation, but not sure why the scanners won't work.

D tech I appreciate your video.. I jus bought a 2011 535i Gran Turismo with missing water pump code out of tolerance coolant pump supply voltage too low and no emergency signal .. I use a launch scanner x431.. u said something I was wondering .. does the pump suppose to run on cold start or after thermostat opens

You have any experience with micsig oscilloscope? I’m needing to update my 2 channel snap on to a 4 channel but want something that’s not to hatefully expensive

I do not have experience with micsigs, but I always recommend people to get the autel 4 channel scope, it is able to be used on a pc and is VERY close and comparable to the pico. Even the software on the pc has the ability to set up markers with degree marks to take measurements, and the price is very affordable for it being pretty much like a pico.

Can you please help... I have a BMW 2014 X3 F25 the Electric Water Pump Bleeding was working fine twice. Then, it stop after I used the Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealer. The Engine getting hot. So, I changed the Thermostat and clean out the Reservoir Tank. Same issue. Should I change the Water Pump? Is there fuse that I should check? I got 3 Codes: 1) CD9010 LIN, Message: Electric Coolant Pump: Missing. DTC Status: Current 2) 1A2004 Electric Fan, Actuating Wire: Line Disconnection DTC Status: Current 3) 1A2002 Electric Fan, Actuating Wire: Short Circuit to Ground DTC Status: Current Please help :) Thank you & God Bless

you can start by changing the water pump to see if the code for it goes away then concentrate also on fixing the fan codes as that can cause it to overheat as well

Pretty stupid video since most people don't have actual good known water pumps to do this! In fact all you did was parts change since you had a second and third pump! This really was not a diag!!
