My one wish in life would be to send my 105 to these guys to sort out all the little niggles that most mechanics/ builders ignore. Love how thorough they are.

It's great to hear seasoned experts critique your Troopy and how they diagnose the vehicle. Especially since despite the drivetrain working, they still plan to open the axles and visually inspect the diffs.

drivetrain working does not mean that is perfect condition, at this milleage, check everything, i don't see it like as bad thing...

Would you add turbo on ?
@4xoverland Жыл бұрын
No. A low pressure turbo can work with a 1HZ as long as one closely monitors the EGTs. These engines are not well suited to adding a turbo. It usually damages them.

You guys in Africa lucky you never got the V8 Diesel. Horrible engine.
@4xoverland Жыл бұрын
I have the V8 diesel in Australia. In my other Troopy. The engine is fantastic. Reliable, powerful, not overly thirsty.
@thelaughingprophet2275 Жыл бұрын
@@4xoverland im in Australia as well. Owned a 76 with a V8. Horrible layout, starter motor a two day job, injectors at $4500 a set, Alternator at sump level, great for creek crossings, exhaust manifolds and Turbo also inaccessible, front wheel track 2" wider than rear. Weak gearboxes, never tow long distance in 5th gear. A disaster if breakdown in remote areas, without laptop and full toolkit. Nice Aircond and exhaust note really all it had going for it. Rubbish car.
@4xoverland Жыл бұрын
I hear you. Not great for servicing, I agree. PS. The V8 is available in Africa. But the 1HZ is better for the low grade diesel there.
@thelaughingprophet2275 Жыл бұрын
@@4xoverland the 1HZ is gold. Great engine, they are getting harder to buy over here because their value is understood.

It's like flogging a dead horse. You will throw good money at it but there is no way you can cover everything. Taking the old clunker out to remote country with that nagging thought am I going to break down. That's not fun when you are in a fairly inhospitable country.

Lordt…it’s a Land Cruiser. I have 283,000 + MILES (455,444 KM) on my 80 Series and wouldn’t think twice about driving it around the globe. Granted, I’ve replaced the power steering pump, valve cover gasket, cylinder sheaths, all the hoses, radiator, the entire AC system, new starter, alternator, water pump, new suspension, new brakes (and new calipers at the back), and a new rear main seal, but I know now exactly where she stands and she is bulletproof.
@nawiribrahim Жыл бұрын
I recently purchased an FJ Cruiser with 406,000 kms. It just needed a new serpentine belt, rollers and tensioner and all fluids change. Runs perfectly and I trust it enough compared to 2 defender and 2 discoverys I've owned in the past. This Troopy is not bad at all and can be trusted after a bit of TLC. I mean it just did a 1600 km trip😮
@frankguernier2280 Жыл бұрын
@Larry Queen lord. You have already almost rebuilt it. I know it a Toyota. I have had a few myself in Australia and we joke saying they are like White goods ( refrigerators) on wheels. Reliable. I have a mate who used a trooping in his plumbing business. He loved it but eventually it wasn't just drive train that failed. Metallurgy also took its toll. He had to park it up and move on. Andrew Intends to use this one in one of the worst countries to tour. Not only around Jo'burg.. you break down and when you come back to rescue it it's stripped or burnt. Plus did you hear the drive train noise and the broken passengers seat. Poor Gwen. What a clunker. He looks like he has plenty of cash. I can't see his reasoning.If Paul actually charged him the correct mechanics rate to work on it rather than mates rate i bet he wouldnt do it.But I suppose he gets some video channel mileage then knowing him he will do a little trip then flip it and move on. He is a motoring journalist not a true expedition adventurer.
