My 71 roadrunner water temp gauge is working but reading hotter than actual temperature. Do you have a video on how to rebuild/calibrate the gauge?
@vincemajestyk9497 Жыл бұрын
Some aftermarket senders will cause that, or sender ground issues. I would check the actual temp with and IR gun. Supposedly 'High' is 250 degrees. 'Low' is 120. The gauge should be calibrated to 'factory' senders. You can tweak it if you take it off there are 2 little 'windows' in the back with what looks like gear teeth. You can very judiciously use a screwdriver to adjust the gauge to where you want the needle at operating temp. Honestly, I've seen 'em all over from 1/4-1/2 of the scale. I hate those ambiguous gauges. A little better than a light.

hey Cody, I installed an MSD 6AL and MSD Tach Adapter and now the tach stopped working. do I need to change the tach or do you think it is broken? I bought and installed the tach adapter because I understood if I installed this I could keep the old tach (analog?). thanks for all the great content! (1970 Challenger Rallye dash/gauges).

I've always had problems with getting a factory tach to work with MSD-6A. I was able to get most working with the 'transformer' tach adapter which simulates a coil primary winding. I think those tachs use current from a positive square wave. More than likely the problem is the capacitors on the tach driver board. They are VERY old if original. You could change the caps or get new board from RTE.

whats the wires on the gauges ran to ?
@vincemajestyk9497 Жыл бұрын
One post goes to '+' on the battery stack, the other post goes to the stud on the gas tank sender. Then ground the sender to the battery 'neg'. I think on those gauges the 'black' is power. Violet, etc are the sender connections. I don't know that polarity matters on those 'thermal' gauges for the purposes of this test. Make sure you follow the correct wiring on installation though.

Nice info. Do have a couple questions though ... how long ago did you record this? Are you deliberately trying to make it look like a VHS from 1988, or are you just not a video guy? :D
