I think it is too complicated at times. I guarantee you in game 4 no one would know what to do if bg4 at 18:07. at this elo they would blunder the queen. After u attack the pawn at d5

When the queen moves to G3, wouldn't the better play have been F2? You're sacrificing your queen, but you're guaranteeing that the bishop won't escape. FYI, I haven't played chess in 20 years and I have no rating, I'm just wondering if the remnants of my chess instincts are correct or not.

@@cithvalentine1790 ELO is in short your rating. It shows how strong of your player is. It can range from 100, the absolute beginner, to 3000 where Super Grandmaster play. If you play for a while and just do a little study, you can reach 500-800 in Rapid games (10 minutes per player). With some more studying and less blundering you can reach the beloved 1000 ELO (rating) which separates you from the beginner pool. From there goals are typically 1200, 1500, 1700 which is in a very high percentile of players, to the great 2000. Depending on if you are a visual type of person or someone who can read and study while moving pieces on the board, I would recommend first KZbin videos on the basics. Castling Linked Rooks Forks Skewers Pins Pawn Structures Developing Order and Controlling The Center Don’t waste any of your time in the beginning on crazy openings. That is for later in your path upwards to fool around with.

I am really appreciating the detail in your videos. I'm a beginner (my rating is 412!) and I keep making blunders and mistakes, even when I think I've thought things through thoroughly. A lot of the other creators I've been watching go too quickly through the moves for me to really grasp the concepts/principles. I've devoured alot of chess content over the years and in addition to being a very good educator you also show why sacrificing officers aren't always as painful as it may seem. Personally for me sacrificing like a Bishop for a Knight.. is something I weigh heavily and I also don't think about later recaptured, of all the other big chess streamers.. I've never seen them go over stuff like that and it matters! Cause if you become more conscious about the pros and cons about sacrificing you become more aware of the gamestate. Brilliant stuff!

I like how you play interesting but not necessarily the best moves some times and say that you wouldnt play like that on top level but for lower levels you recommend it. This way I can actually understand the moves and dont need to plan ahead tactics for the next ten moves which is nice for a beginner. Thank you!

8:25 check with bishop? that moves one bish out of the line of the attacking rook and buys you a move. I think you gave up a pawn unnecessarily not checking with dark bish one move earlier. but what do I know? I suck at chess.

I'm really enjoying this series and learning a lot from your explanations. I've got to 850 in rapid and 920 daily but I'm finding it hard to push on. Blitz just goes between 450 to about 520.

The thing that I hate about blitz (even the 5-minute version) is that if your play is not smooth and you find yourself taking a lot of time thinking in the opening, you have to scramble in the end. If you don't manage to stay ahead of your opponent in time, you'll lose a lot of games by timeout.

About the fishing pole trap I think it’s better to do with the modern Scandinavian (e4 d5 nf6). You usually don’t have a knight blocking the queen and sometimes you have dark square bishop on d6 so if they take light square bishop you can take back with pawn which attack the knight. Once the knight move you can sac the rook with Rh1+. King have to take and you move the queen to h file with check (usually Qh1+ or Qh5+) followed by Qh2# after king move back.

I’ll show one of those but basically you have to always look for rook sac when you calculate if it’ll work. 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6 3.Nc3 (this is very far from the best move but somehow a lot of people play this. Best move is d4. Bb5+ is also good.) Nxd5 4.Nxd5 (again with the not best move but you’ll also see this quite often) Qxd5 5.d4 (or Nf3) Nc6 6.Nf3 (or d4) Bg4 7.Be2 e6 (e6 is not the best move for black. e5 is better but white can force end game and it’s still better for white at about +0.19) 8.O-O Bd6 9.h3 h5 (this is the fishing pole. This is not a good move but in my experience so many people took it and die very soon afterward. At least this move is not going to be an inaccuracy and white is still less then +1 if white didn’t take) 10.hxg4 (The bishop dies. And it’s a mistake to take bishop. Of course I’m going to show the line that lead to checkmate) hxg4 11.Nd2 (the best move is g3. every knight move is losing but I’ll pick this one as it’s the simplest. ) Rh1+ 12.Kxh1 (forced) Qh5+ 13.Kg1 (forced) Qh2# Note that this combo with rook + queen + bishop can be done with the queen on starting square as well. You just need to be able to give check on h file. Make sure that nothing can block you queen check on h3 if you’ll lose the hooking pawn after hxg4. Sometimes your opponent would do something to make them feel like taking the fishing hook safer but they still didn’t see the rook sac so they died anyway. There’s also another mate with queen in a different position (behind bishop but same diagonal) that goes like this: Bh2+ Kh1 then Bg1+(discovered check by the rook) and you play Qh2#

In the last game, when you moved Kh1, your opponent missed a knight fork. You also missed a devastating one at about the 22 minute mark - you found a similar one after they’d moved their queen, but you could have had it a move or two earlier.
