ENFP here and I have a new hobby every week it seems. This might sound like I’m bragging, but every new creative hobby/project I try I always excel and outperform in because if something interests me I am HYPER focused. However, I suck at everything else in life. LOL my house is full of random crap from all my various hobby’s and interest and EVERYTHING about me is novel and not practical. I also waste so much time wondering and researching things that do not matter. I know a lot of theories about secret societies and recently really got obsessed over deep sea creatures. Ask me about the last time I changed my air filter or got an oil change I will look at you blankly because I probably don’t know the answer. Lol

Not like I search for agreement, but I'd love it if more people could just entertain other prospects more in life. What if we did this? What if that happened? I love those what ifs! Thanks again, Ben! I fully agree. There's so much to explore! I always imagine it like getting on a bus without knowing where you're going - letting new and interesting people on and off which then brings new ideas and atmospheres - and eventually getting to a destination. Most people just want to arrive at the destination and move on with life. :s But I guess that's just necessary to keep balance in humanity...?

Love it. I think ENFPs also have a flair for grammar, but it's more "by ear" than ENTPs, in that may not even know the explicit rules. I could always just tell as a young teen, long before an English degree, whether a complex sentence "worked" or not, and correct it by sounding, even when I didn't know the rule and it was counterintuitive to others (such as subject-verb agreement when the subject is not a plural noun but a collective singular noun).

I really like how you use Metaphoric type of examples to explain things. For me metaphors instantly make subjects I might not know that much about, suddenly very easy to understand en also memorize. I think It explains the formula or essence behind a concept much quicker than actually explaining every detail of the actual concept itself, so the listener does not really have build the concept you're trying to explain from the ground up. Instead, it makes it possible to 'recycle' concepts we already know to comprehend things, which I think is alot more efficient than doing all over again. But maybe it's just me who sees it that way? Not sure if it works that way for all types, but it surely does for me (I'm an INTP).

It was really interesting to learn about these brain regions. With every region you talked about, I could connect it to way I do things or what I'm good at. I especially enjoyed hearing about your ENTP friend being really into the etymology of words. I never knew it was such an ENTP thing. I do that too. I do also a lot of comparative linguistics between different languages since I speak 6 languages with varying degree of fluidity and I can understand about 6 others to some degree based on the languages I actually speak. It's so interesting to see how e.g. our economic history is coded into the sayings. I live in the Netherlands and I had a really hard time learning the Dutch equivalent to "Don't buy a pig in a poke". In my native Finnish we also buy a pig which is very logical since Finland was a fairly poor agricultural country until the 1950's. You'd want to buy a a good fat pig or your Christmas ham wouldn't be the true king of the Christmas meal it's supposed to be. But the Dutch buy a cat in a sack and I couldn't understand why anyone would want to buy a cat. In the past you were supposed to get a cat for free or for hardly any money when somebody's cat had had some surprise kittens. I could only start remembering which animal is in the Dutch sack, when somebody told me the cats were bought as ship's cats to kill rats. You needed a cat that was a good rat-hunter or your crew had no food left halfway to the Dutch East Indies. That's when I truly realized how strongly the merchant traders had impacted the Dutch culture.

I'm an ENFP and my friends laugh at me when I say that I can extract a person's motive by just looking at his face, how his eyeballs and eyebrows move, how he pans his head, how he moves his lips, etcetera, specially when I hear the words they speak. But to them it's laughable. My predictions are mostly correct though and they think I'm some kind of a genius or maybe there's a trick or cheat. They can't fathom that it's just my Ne and Fi and nothing to do with genius or whatever trick (I'm not a genius by the way).

I love Ne as an INTP. Ne is like having a second personality that keeps prodding me with "have you thought of this or tried that" and doesn't let me settle on what my Ti logic sees at first blush. There is always an improvement or nuance that can change everything as Ne tosses me curves to consider. I love INFPs, but have had difficult times with their Ne as a parent function feeding Fi versus Ti. They has a tendency to read between the lines what my feelings or motives are when I'm not expressing them (because I'm not having any) and that has caused friction at work and with dates. Ne makes them very interesting and fragile at the same time (although I don't know any male INFPs).

Interesting.. I score as an ENFP but I mostly considered myself as an Introvert, or at least Ambivert, but after watching your video and your interesting examples, I noticed the difference between a Primary Ne (ENFP) and a Secondary Ne (INFP). You are an INFP, (probably that borders with INTP), you use Ne to "express" your Fi or describe a Ti through interesting examples about video games and stuff... whereas I would do the opposite I would use Ne (outside phenomena and connections) to gain understanding about Fi.. A bit difficult concept I think to describe, but what I mean is that I would have as a "natural" tendency to see outside (Ne) and gain understanding about the inside (Fi), whereas a Secondary Ne would have as a "natural" tendency to see first inside (Fi) and express that to the outside by using Secondary Ne. And that's basically what I did by watching your video, and by also observing that I did that... Basically that's the difference between INFP and ENFP I think.. and probably I am almost out of topic..

Oh my gosh. This was interesting. Thank you much. By the way, you articulate very well for an INFP... and have delightful composure and light in your eyes, too... or that is coming from my INFP perspective. Brightness 🌸 I want to look into this more so I can become a better speaker with certain people. I have a question for you if you can relate and wouldn't mind answering... At first, before you worked on yourself, did your speech patterns with people who understand you and you, them have the tendency or ability to be able to jump from a particular topic to a relatable theory to a metaphorical saying to a film reference to an immediate insight to an emotional reaction, or whatever, etc, with them, all on the same tangent and leading back to the original topic... without ADD because you are fundamentally following the same topic, just touching on the many strings that relate to it in the bigger picture and therefore understanding it more...? I am asking because with certain people, I have these types of multilayered multi-textural emotional and philosophical conversations and we feel like we get each other, but with other people, they speak more literally, so I feel I have to sort of simplify and be exact about what I am saying to them. Unfortunately, it feels like I'm putting my brain in a cage. But, I have been working on just listening and being present and meeting people at their level, but I would love to be able to inspire people who are different than me with my words someday. Not as good as, but sort of like the excellent speakers do, such as Obama 💕💕 Sorry for the long comment... (and question)
@GeekPsychology7 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the question. It sounds like just different dynamics of interacting with other types :P Some people do not follow the Ne "ADD bus trips" to other contexts. It's just not their style. I don't feel I speak well, but something I try to keep in mind is to take all the responsibility onto yourself. If they don't understand it, it's because you aren't speaking their language.

Haha yeah I'm ENTP and I'd definitely suggest trying to DM. I find it hugely rewarding; creating a fun and intricate adventure while acting out a bunch of different little roles. I also love how quick you have to be sometimes, because it's impossible to plan out every reaction your group will make (but that might be because I tend to improv the fine details). I'd say to give it a shot and don't worry about it! It's worth the experience, especially if you like writing fantasy.
@GeekPsychology7 жыл бұрын
It sounds like a lot of fun! Do you have any techniques that work well for you for the things you can plan? Besides a lot of experience... lol I've been learning some single-player no DM styles that I need to find some more time to devote to. Maybe after my group's D&D adventure is done later this year I'll have enough confidence under my belt to try DMing for them.
@thentherewasnancy59817 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah man it's a blast! It's a lot to explain what I do (because DMing is really a lot of work haha) but I can say that I enjoy making a very intricate plot line but not a linear one. I just let them go wherever, rather than push them along a specific path. I write out very general notes that help me remember important things like dialogue and story progression, and then I pretty much improvise for the rest, so it's probably not the best technique out there lol. Basically, if I prepare all of the nouns within my story well enough, then I can easily improvise the rest without being thrown off. It's fun to write out a little world with places and people and an intended story, and then just throw your friends in there and watch what the actual story ends up like.
@GeekPsychology7 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I think that's a really good way of going about it - set up your nouns and let people interact with them. My DM always plans a ton but in the end is like, "I have no idea what you guys will do, so I just have ideas and have to work with what happens."

Based on the brain scans Dario Nardi showed in his book, both ENFP and ENTP had a lot of activity in T4 and O2. The difference is that the ENTP had high-mid leveled activity and the ENFP had high activity. I'm not sure how much of a difference that really makes in the end. But as he says in his book, "These are case studies of specific individuals and do not represent all or even most persons of those types. Everyone is unique due to his or her background." The general theme is there though, and it's likely Ne dominant and auxiliary types will have a good amount of activity in those two regions.

Geek Psychology I find enfps tend to be very future and possibilities focused always looking at what are the possible truths, we tend to be driven by our introverted feeling and we can appear ditsy or like we don't fully think out our decisions, but instead it's just that we have decided to do xyz anyway because it's inline with our personal values more than the other options available. We do love people but I see that enfps often champion themselves for causes because of the Dom Ne and aux Fi likes to imagine all the possibilities of what other people are going through and like to explore the depths of other people's personalities and understand what makes people tick. But because of our Te I find that we actually hugely love objective data because we want to be able to utilize it for a purpose that we can execute and we understand that the subjective self will be biased and we want pure forms of data and so we process data objectively and then judge the data in its most purest form subjectively with Fi. Because of our Dom Ne we tend to see reality in a more Schrödinger's cat kind of way, making decisions as if all possibilities are both true and false and like to experiment with social situations to understand the driving causes of social structures and boundaries and is why we often come across as goofy and controversial because of that desire to map out where exactly boundaries lay, often overstepping them. Fe tends to be more confirmative than Fi (as you probably know as an Infp) so the enfp is actually extremely independent because though we love people we highly value authenticity and staying true to who we are which can often cause conflict with those around us because we would rather stay true to what we believe rather than confirming to others ideals for the sake of an easy life. Saying this we really respect it when other people do the same and we tend to be a lot more laid back and accepting of people's natural character. I find I use language more as an art form than a tool and find that I love using language to convey a particular meanings with various levels nuance and love understanding the origins of language and etymology. I find that my te actually makes me very logical and I tend to try way out possibilities, pros and cons and organise everything through lists and flow charts. Because of our Fi and Ne we want to create the best version of something we don't want a system that just works, we want the best system and constantly trying to catalyze our growth, the Te means that we also want to execute our visions and so many enfps I find will dedicate their lives to learning so that they can acquire the knowledge needed to manifest their perfect vision even if this means going against popular opinion. Fi is fiercely independent and would rather make mistakes and learn from them than just do what they're told because someone else thinks it's the best way

it's really impressive that you have interest in these other regions to begin with. I know many Si dominant folk who are terrified of Ne related concepts. @@juliarahr My initial assumption when it came to the MBTI model was to show a person what their strengths are, but also their weaknesses. While in my case I'll most likely never achieve that level of mastery that you have with Ne it doesn't mean that I should ignore it. One of my biggest issues with the MBTI community that I see are many people focusing solely on their first two functions, and ignoring everything else. I don't need help with Si, and I'm more or less a very orderly person, but focusing so much on order leads to stagnation, so occasionally I need to be able to tap into that side of me that wants to explore the unknown.
