Great video, Matt! In case I can be of help, the regions you were unsure of the name for are "OH-1" and "OH-2", rather than "Zero-1" or "Zero-1". The "O" stands for "occipital lobe", which is one of the four lobes (quadrants) of the neocortex (the surface of the brain), the others being "parietal (P)", "frontal (F)", and "temporal (T)". Some regions lie at the junction between two lobes. So "FP1" is a region that lies on the border between the frontal and parietal regions. Just thought I'd give that insight. But I by no means intend to negatively judge your videos. These are INCREDIBLY insightful, I am grateful you decided to make this series.

"The original function of Fi is to make decisions based on the emotions that have been understood. Fi people need to always understand their emotions because it gives clarity of whats right or wrong! The more clear we understand the emotions, the more moral our decisions become." (Ernesto Gamez in a commentary to C.S. Josephs: What is Introverted feeling.)

"Typing" someone is the least important part of MBTI, in my opinion. Understanding the functions and being able to identify them in real life, no matter what type of person you are (and how you use that information), seems to be the only consistent "goal" most people in the typology community share in common.

I have a question. As an INFP, I can listen to people who fascinate me and feel every nuance of their energy coming through their tones of voices and stories for lengthy periods of time. At the same time, when certain people come in to tell me something sort of practical and simple, and I already know where they’re going with it (maybe with my Ne) it is excruciatingly difficult to not just interrupt and say “I know, yes, I totally get it. Will do.” I know that sounds rude and that I’m assuming I’m a mind reader, but oftentimes we can jump ahead with the Christmas tree light up thing, and know where people are going with stuff, so better yet, I love to be surprised and intrigued. Has anyone else experienced this? (That was a long statement then a question) 💗

i feel this way! i feel extremely drawn when i hear people talk about their interests cos you can see the passion in their voice and energy in their movements, the glint in their eyes. i think as infps we are just more sensitive to the energy around us a lil bit more? its the same how im a lil bit obsessed with seeing subtle expressions made by actors when im watching shows and films cos i zero in on that and can just feel whatever feeling they portray.
@orchidsrising79106 жыл бұрын
iffahooha I know, when watching a film, I’m right in there feeling the characters as if I’m experiencing their emotional states of mind, as well. Also, all of the emotions, micro expressions, motives, innocence, subtleties real live people give off... as an INFP I think we don’t need to study the science behind eye movements, body language, tone of voice, lie detecting stuff, etc as it is built into us naturally... and we get better as we get more experience 💗💎💗💎💗💎💗😜

Hello! Love your videos my friend. Just my 2 cents though, as an INFP... I’m familiar and have read about the “all-encompassing brain state” you talked about. However, for me it’s more like I tune everything else out BUT the person with whom I’m listening to. I feel almost enamored by their words and absorb them in this intense listening state. This doesn’t, of course, happen every time I listen to someone. It’s usually someone I care about, causing me to invest that energy in an intensive focus on what their words and meanings are, and how I can help them. Keep up the good work mate!

Are you a Hapa? Started watching your series by coming across your INTP-Matrix video. Really enjoying your approach of covering all of the cognitive functions vs just obsessing about your own particular personality type which often occurs with NT types. I’m an INTP with moderate T preference but can identify with INFPs. Always felt the need to be authentic and had a hard time when my values/ideas came under attack, especially as a youngster. Certain songs would have such a deep emotional meaning to me and it would ruin my night if my friends/acquaintances mocked them or were indifferent. Nowadays I don’t really care or will play something (obscure) just to troll people sometimes. Very Ne hehe.
@GeekPsychology7 жыл бұрын
Nope :) I just like beaches and Hawaii. Thanks for the comment. I try to touch on all the types, but it's pretty hard because when I start a series, I feel there's this need to "be fair" and do the same video with 15 more variations lol. It doesn't work well with being a perceiver. That's cool about identifying with INFPs. I feel I identify well with the INTPs that I've befriended. I think it's because of 1) Ne and 2) Ti is another introverted judging process so it feels like a safe support of Fi, despite struggling to wield it properly.

I’ve watched a few of these videos in the series and have pondered whether or not I should leave a comment, mostly because it’s likely it won’t get a response. Somewhat ironically, I really like these videos and the way you present them in spite of the fact that I tend to have a great deal of difficulty with gelling with an INFP in the way that I would like. I am in an ENTP and have a few close INFP friends and I find that we get along well enough until one of these friends asks me to help them with some goal. I go away, I think about it for a while come up with a systematized solution to get them there, and I almost universally get “yeah, that’s a good idea, but I don’t really want to do that.” Or something to that effect. And in a few cases, I’ve proposed an idea to have a rejected, and a few years down the road it is implemented by another person in exactly the same way I originally proposed it. I’ve tried to unravel what could be happening here, but there are times when I am banging my head against a figurative wall. I’m thinking that maybe because introverted feeling decides what’s important based on how it feels to them in that there is a kind of internal consistency in the way that they think of their value structure as opposed to a kind of logical, systematized framework, it might take a little longer for them to reach these conclusions because they are reached from a different vantage point than the one I used to arrive at it. This causes a lot of miscommunication in these types of situations, and my extroverted feeling has thrown me into an anxious state from time to time because of that in the past. Any general tips would be cool, I really appreciate the work you do. Game on!
@GeekPsychology7 жыл бұрын
+Ronald Brady I know how you feel. I struggled for YEARS to help my ESTJ friend to fix some of his issues. They were causing him and everyone else stress. I finally gave up. In time he improved through awareness in all the ways I had consistently told him about. It’s just... people need to think it’s their own idea to do something or most won’t do it. Or they might give it a half-assed try but it won’t stick. I wish I realized that early on with him. Also, some people just aren’t ready to change. I spent many years trying to “fix” and “save” people who would come to me only looking for a “bandaid.” In terms of IxFPs, we see organizational skills as something we would love to have but don’t (and possibly can’t) possess. We often unknowingly self-sabotage in terms of taking steps towards our goal. Everything seems like a big step outside our comfort zone. So... long response made short... How can you get them to take one small step towards a goal AND make them think it’s their idea? If you figure that out, let me know! lol
@RonaldBradycptgmpy7 жыл бұрын
That's a REALLY good point dude. I have had to be outside my comfort zone a lot in life, so I've come to see it as a " game on" proposition rather than throwing an escape roll lol. I've always seen a good idea as a good idea, and as long as it passes my holodeck scenarios, I'm good. I hear you, though. //In terms of IxFPs, we see organizational skills as something we would love to have but don’t (and possibly can’t) possess. We often unknowingly self-sabotage in terms of taking steps towards our goal. Outside of an introvert's comfort zone is probably quite different from being outside an extravert's comfort zone. Maybe us going out and asserting ourselves to making radical changes in the world is outside for us and... being thrown into a sensory deprivation tank or something is the version for you. :P Oh great :) I hope it helps, even if just through 1 new insight :)

Geek Psychology can it somehow be connected with extraverted thinking as the inferior function? what's the role of the inferior function?
@GeekPsychology8 жыл бұрын
Hmm... it could? lol. I can't really say much about it because it's beyond my ability to research from my limited resources. But the ESTJ he showed in the book had high-medium activity in it... I'm just thinking that your experiences have encouraged you to develop that side of yourself or that brain region - it's a good thing. There are many viewpoints. Mine is this: Much of what you repress by embracing and chasing your dominant function is held in your inferior function. For example, as in introverted Feeler, we fight "the system" and mechanical manipulation/organization of people and things by clinging to our values and what we feel is "humane" at all costs. Every time we shine our light to focus on and illuminate introverted Feeling, the shadow created hides extraverted Thinking even more. By becoming more comfortable with our auxiliary function, we bridge a way to talk to the "other world" of extraversion if you are an introvert. The more comfortable you are with that, the easier it is to accept your inferior function's aspects and grow through balance and awareness. This gives us access to more and more things we've repressed.

In addition, I like your presentation.
@sebastianhelm17187 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I don't want to cross some boundaries here, I just want to give my point of view. So here it goes: I don't think the part where explain that you excessively listen to other people has something to do with the nature of the function, but rather with your own past. Without having any other information, I don't believe that you living as foreigner in a country somewhat infamous for its view on strangers, is a coincidence I (as an ISFP ) had some issues with that on my own, so maybe I am seeing things here that only refer to my personal situation. When I was out with friends or family or just strolling around on my own I would also pick up hot words and what not from my surroundings and make some excessive use of my peripheral vision, which after all and as I now understand, was an attempt to protect me from betrayal, something that happened early in my life and had not been digested well. As soon as I understood and healed this fear of being hurt again, my focus stopped being diluted from any outside information, which, if I am being honest, ultimately contained no true value (except when viewed through the lens of protection). Best to you and thanks for the work and effort you put in these videos.
@GeekPsychology7 жыл бұрын
Hey I read this and my reply was deleted. Guess I didn't type it up again. Sorry. I know what you're saying. I think my example was attempting to highlight F8, but I mistakenly used it. F8, I would think is more related to those hot words. I do get comments all the time like "You were listening to that?" "How'd you hear that?", which is possibly more related to the group of preferred brain regions of Fi dominants. Interesting! NLP talks a bit about peripheral vision. It always reminded me of a way of accessing Ni - whether that's accurate or not, I don't know. "Shamanic cultural traditions such as Hawaiian Huna used peripheral vision as a way into altered states. Martial arts encourage peripheral vision as a means to relaxed alertness. Carlos Castaneda’s books on Mexican shamanism refer to peripheral vision as a way of ‘stopping the world’: shutting down the internal dialogue or ‘inventory’ with which, Castaneda maintains, we create our everyday consensus reality."

I really resonate with and think that i am predominately INFP however, I have discover that i hear music and move to it rhymicly, if that is a word, I have had people comment on how I have complicated moves. I am better than average at math, higher math more so than basic math. I have discovered that i’m good at pattern recognition, in number sequences and in people behavior. I’m creative but not in a way the typical artist is. I design systems in my imagination, like education systems because the one we have in in our school system does not work for everyone. I’m still a bit confused on what four letter i am. I feel like I’m more than just four letters. Have you thought about what games appeal most to each personality types. What games are INFP most interested in engaging in?

Are you an INFP? If you are sure that you are, you might want to look into the Enneagram to see if that sheds some light on why you don't really relate to it. It could be because you are still young as well, as you said. When I was younger my iNtuitive side was quite apparent. I intentionally tried taking different routes to work and school whenever possible, I drew crazy pictures all the time, wrote songs and poetry, etc. I didn't realize that introverted Feeling was so important to me because I assumed everyone made decisions in the same way I did and rarely gave it any thought otherwise.
