I’ve got a Barracuda 10 footer, love the soft mono. Love my Tim Wade nets also, especially the deep hole.

That's a fairly simple net throwing method. Good video to pass along to people learning to throw a net....

Come on guys. The video shows how to execute the action of loading and throwing a net in under 2 minutes. It’s not the length of the video. 🤣🙄Actually I think it’s around 1 minute.

Still looking around at what I want to pick up but a lot of people who fish the Long Island Sound swear by his nets for bunker. Just seeing if you were familiar.

Slick37c I actually just heard about them from someone else right after you. Keep in mind this is a 3/8 mesh in the video. I have 8 different brands of nets (all high end) and NONE of them hang this nice in 3/8. 3/8 has so much mono material that they get springy, but this one hangs like a large mesh net. Something to think about.

Hey Mike, I ordered one of these nets on February 13th and havnt received it yet. I've sent 3 emails to them to try and see when it will be shipped. I ordered it about a month before I would need that type of net and now the time is here. You wouldn't happen to have a personal contact to find out what's going on would you? I called the number as well and there is no answer and the voicemail is full.

Dang brother. That sucks. I really like the quality and the feel of their nets, I also appreciate the work of a battle-wounded Veteran owned company, but I was having trouble reaching them from time to time myself so I tried Black Pearl nets when they came out with the INVI series and it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. They are amazing, but they are a bit more coin. Shoot me your email address and a note saying what’s going on and I will forward it to the owner myself. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com Sorry for the hassle brother.

Ok, so my primary bait is herring and in the summer they can be as deep as 50 to 60 feet. Currently we are using a 10 ft taped castnet to catch the herring but it sinks very slow and I feel that they may have time to swim out from under it and we might be catching less herring because of this. Do you believe that the castnet you are throwing would stay open enough to catch them in that deep of water?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS 3 жыл бұрын
Netting that deep is quite a challenge. Can you spot light them at night? They will come up much shallower. That’s what all the commercials Herring guys do. Me too. If not, this net with the weighted horn will stay open longer and still sink fast, but it takes more energy to Chuck it. It’s heavy.
@nathanhollis4184
@nathanhollis4184 3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS we are actually catching them at night on lights that are on boat docks. In the summer it is tiny 1 to 1.5 inch herring near the surface but the bigger 4-7 inchers are deep. Do you guys get them to come shallow even in the summer when the surface temp is that high?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS 3 жыл бұрын
They won’t come up to the surface, but they come up as far as they can to get to the brighter light. Up from 50 to 20 or so. Throw the biggest net you can handle. I throw a 3/8” mesh 10’ but not too heavy. A heavy net sinks faster but closes faster too. At 20’ deep it’s half closed already. You normally don’t need speed to get Herring like you would with Gizzards. I cut every other weight off of a 1.5lb net to make it very light. It’s great for herring but sucks for Shad.

@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS the lights on the docks we are throwing on is basically like a spotlight shining down on the water and they hold the herring spretty steady. In the spring we can catch 100-200 herring in a throw with a regular 10 foot net. They other guy I work with has got really good at throwing his 10 foot taped net and can catch 10-15 herring per throw even when n they down at 60 feet deep on those lights. I however cannot seem to throw my 10 foot tapped net well so I throw an 8 and only get 5-7 per throw when they are that deep. I was hoping maybe that one with the weighted horn may be easier for me to throw than the taped on and work better because it would sink way faster than the taped one. I've tried to use my headlights on my boat to bring em up in the water column but it seems like all I'm getting is the smaller 1-2 inchers. Herring have only been in this lake for about 8 years so thier may not be a massive population on big ones yet idk.

@@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS and By the way I truly appreciate how you take the time to answer everyone's comments. How have helped me out before as well. If you ever come to North Alabama in Spring let me know and I'll put you on 30-60 in a 6 hour trip on underwater dock lights.
