Hi Miwa-san….what a fun and lovely idea to enjoy sushi with your family. I’m going to do this for New Years dinner. Omg I laughed during your video!! My Dad also enjoyed a cup or two of sake during our New Years dinner too. I am sorry your Dad is no longer with you. Your husband is quite funny….and your English at the end of your video was perfection 👍

Sorry just watched it; yesterday I was making an art project all afternoon. Dec 5th is Sinterklaas (like the Dutch Santa Claus) and it's tradition, al least at school from group 5 (3rd grade in the Japanese system) to make a surprise with a small present in it for a classmate. You get it ny drawing names at school. So I'm busy making a race car now. Never been a great fan of this tradiotion but what can you do.... My husband will do the required poem with my daughter. Your english is really good Miwa-san with the sake explanation at the end :) During the holiday season here in Dec I usued to drink wine, but lately switched to lighter ciders that have the alcohol content of beer. And occationally I enjoy a wisky cream liqueur. I'm still not sure what I'll make for Christmas. We'e be away for tow days visiting both our parents. With Newyears I usually make osechi but it's so much work makinh it completely from scratch ( I usually make it for my parents as well so for 5 to 6 persons total). I love sushi at home. I only always have to get creative because my husband doesn't eat nori. We do have a soy substitute here but it taste only so so. I have to use thin omelets, abura age is also a good substitute. I never really did temaki sushi; usually I make chirasi sushi.

Thank you for sharing school even in your country! It's so interesting to hear that! School project becoming part of parent's project is similar thing in Japan! haha You even make osechi?!!! you are not living in Japan, but pretty much living like Japanese ! I respect you!!

Great ideas! If you haven't already, try mixing mayo (vegan or normal) and edamame; it is a tasty combination. I've tried this filling with onigiri, but I think it will be just as good in sushi.
