I learned how to tie this knot when I was kid. I'm 65 now and no matter what other knot I try, I seem to always come back to this one. In all my years, it has never failed, not even one time. Others I have tried have failed.

Question for you guys, I’m trying to learn this knot now.. is it normal once you cinch the knot down to the lure, if you pull on the tag end pretty hard for the loop to open back up?

I believe this knot consistently performs at or near the top in break strength with pretty much every line regardless of material or size.

I agree with you on the Palomar not except for heavy lines. The Palomar doesn't work with heavy lines very well

2 years ago I had a spinner bait break off a huge bass. When I reeled up the empty line the knot was still intact. The wire on the spinner bait broke before the knot. Anytime it’s been broken off it’s the main line not even the knot such a good knot.

I fish only very rarely, like rounds down to zero kind of rare. But I use this knot in other ways. Granted, it's similar applications, tying it off a cord to a D-ring or whatever. I find it aesthetically pleasing too. Aside for the -tail- tag that goes over most of the loops, but that makes it really easy to untie, no matter how tight. Now that I think about it, the tag being on top of the loops makes it look different than a noose. Probably a good thing. It's also really good at using up a cord that is too long. Yes, I am aware of the alternatives. Little surprised it hasn't entered the paracord crafts scene yet, -it would make for a great beginner knot, as it's easy to untie. It's structure is also very... easily modified- Wait a moment. OOooh, forgot how the same knot can be used in almost, if not actually, infinite ways. It probably already is used in paracord crafts, it's just slightly different 'on paper' but looks totally different.

This is the only knot I use now for the last 20 yrs. Over 50 yrs fishing experience, I found my 'go-to' knot after years of using the Palomar knot which seems to fail with heavier mono lines.I learned this one years ago but was told its called a reversed improved cinch knot...anyone have any ideas on where this really originated?

i've been having trouble with my knots on flouro and copolymer breaking or freying the line when i sinch it down , this knot seemed to work well on my copolymer as i've given up on flouro i mainly use braid when i can get away with it but for my paddle tail swimbaits and wacky rigs i don't use braid and mono has a lot of stretch and line twist but i do use mono on my spincast reels for bream fishing but i have purchased some 6 lb test copolymer for bream fishing with my micro spincast Zebco i purchased P line copoly in 6 lb and 10 lb for my spinning reel for wacky rig and neko and shakey head fishing haven't fished with it yet but will be soon , thanks for the video , please refer me to some more knots that are good for copolymer , seems like my uni and palomar don't work so good with copolymer but great for my braid and mono

Most people fishing the long range fleet out of San Diego use this knot, but NOBODY ties it this way..... Use an anchor ring (they're all over the boats in the tackle area) or something similar, to hold your hook; them you have both hands to tie the knot. If you're tying 40,50,60 or 80 floro, especially when doubled over, and you need to tie fast and tight, it's not possible holding the hook; use an anchor. It will only take 10-15 seconds to tie it and secure it if you use an anchor.

(Check out KZbin) San Diego Jam Knot vs Palomar Knot I still like tying a Palomar up to 80# (then I start crimping) I’ve used the San Diego Jam fishing long range out of San Diego as well One thing the SD jam has going for it is that there and no lines crossing each other to cut You have to watch tying the Palomar knot … and not cross the lines Lubing both knots are essential or the moms will burn on itself when tightening

this knot is cool but over complicated and not as strong as the others that wrap around the eye of the hook twice. the palomar knot is stronger and way easier. i just learned the trilene knot the beginning of this year and is easy and the strongest fishing knot.

This is a San Diego jam. It’s quite different from an improved clinch, the little details matter. When you double the San Diego jam knot it’s called the doubled San Diego jam knot, kinda simple.
@mnjcosby
@mnjcosby 3 жыл бұрын
The improved clinch doesn't have the little loop he was holding at the top, on the clinch that loop is created when you pass the tag end through the opening near the hook eye whereas he created the loop at the beginning and it is part of the wrap, they are super similar though especially the benefit they both pass line between the knot and eye, which helps with fluorocarbon and cinch knots to keep them from cinching down so much they cut the line, theoretically it can't cinch beyond the thickness of the line because there is line against the eye preventing that, which is what causes problems when using the uni or Palomar with fluoro because nothing prevents the line from cinching straight through itself against the hard hook eye
