The best, detailed, step-by-step instructions. Look smart, crisp and COOL! (NOT like a fool!) Tie your tie, so that: the tail does not show and the knot has a symetrical shape, will not slip and has the pattern positioned within the knot, just where you wish it to be. A complete guide for the gentleman of today. This video shows the tying of a ' half Windsor ' knot.
PLEASE NOTE: For the adventurous amongst you, I have 2 more videos - "How to Tie a Bow Tie - Fully explained " and "How to Tie a Bow Tie - Fully Explained Part 2 - Ties Today " Tying a bow tie is no more difficult than tying an ordinary tie, once you know how, and have had a bit of practice! Good luck with your tie tying!

First of all that's a fabulous looking tie. Second, beautiful job on the video once again and I learned something new. It's brilliant how you tucked the back end into your shirt, and how you centered a particular color!! Absolutely amazing!!!

It's also splendid, even though I know how to tie a regular tie perfectly well since my early teens. (thanks to my uncle) Both of your videos must be in every gentlemen's library. Nice video. Since there are many different ways to tie a tie, you should consider adding the type of knot in the description or the video. Looks to me like your tying a half windsor. I've alway been partial the (full) Windsor myself. Though I do use the know you show for some of my thicker ties. Definitely a well laid out instructional video. Good work.

In response, that knot is what is known as a Half-Windsor. There are several ways to tie the half Windsor, but the all involve a single wrap around one of the two posts, followed by the wrap across the front, and then the final tuck. The way things differ between the different methods is in which post you wrap the long end around and which direction you pull the long end after the wrap (parallel with the short end or opposite the short end). But they all form what is known as the half Winds

Thanks for this. I recommend tucking the 'tail' of the tie into the shirt, as otherwise it will appear behind the broader part, to one side or the other, and look untidy. If you keep the material flat, under your shirt, there should be no problem with it showing through. Some ties have a loop at the back of the broad section, to keep the tail in place, or you *could* use a tie clip, but I find these tend to pull the tie to one side. Experiment with tucking it in at different levels. Good luck!

Thank you for posting this interesting comment. Compared with my video on tying the *bow* tie, this one receives relatively few views and comments, so it's very pleasing to read that I have managed to help someone in the simple art of tying an ordinary neck-tie. So far as I know, the technique of centring the pattern in the knot is unique, so your sons will be one up on everyone else, if they wish to go that extra step. - It's something I do automatically, every day. Some day, try the bow tie!

I tie my ties in an almost identical fashion, except that I have always begun/tied with the broad side on my right, making the motions exactly opposite but identical to what you do. I've tried tying my ties with the broad side on the left and it doesn't even turn out quite as well for me. Fantastic video, lots of helpful advice.

Thanks for your comment on my video, 'How to tie a tie - fully explained.' You wondered why I did not deal with how to make a 'dimple' just below the knot. In fact, | see this as a defect - a crease - hence my advice on the use of the thumbs to remove any folds below the knot if possible. I would see the 'dimple' in the same light as the clip-on bow tie, or wearing a tie pulled down below the collar with the top button of the shirt undone - simply 'not on!' I guess it's a cultural difference

I might have an idea why the bow tie does so well; it might have something to do with a certain uk tv show. And after that your video was simply the top video many people just clicked that first. Thanks for your question. I have looked at this particular tie, and it is marked, "Charles Tyrwhitt, Jermyn Street, London." The shop still exists and is featured on Google, selling expensive shirts, ties etc., but I'm afraid that the particular pattern shown in my video is no longer featured. (I have had this tie for some years, and the pattern may well be impossible to find, now. But there are many tie suppliers out there, so you might just find something very similar. - Good luck!)
@Offshoreorganbuilder
@Offshoreorganbuilder 11 жыл бұрын
Ah yes! You are absolutely correct. We all make up our minds about other people in the first few seconds on meeting, based largely on appearance, as you probably know, and to wear a tie like the one shown in this video, you have to have it *correctly* tied. Thanks for your comment, and Happy New Year!

Ha! At last a comment! (I was beginning to think you were all asleep!) As you say, there are some novel points which will make your tie tying much more controllable. As you must have found, tying a tie is easy. You just need to know how. And in a world populated by scruff-bags, with no ties, or (worse) half-tied ones, why not stand out from the crowd with one that is correctly tied?!

I take your point, however, if you are wanting to make a competent job of tying a tie (which is why you're looking at this video, I suppose) you must have *some* ideas about a more adult approach to style - and remember, biologically speaking, it's all supposed to be downhill after the age of about 19! So ... good luck, old man, and good tie tying!
@Offshoreorganbuilder
@Offshoreorganbuilder 11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your interesting comment. I'm sure it makes no difference whether you are right- or left-handed as far as tie tying goes. The surprising thing, if any, is that a tie appears to be perfectly symetrical when tied. Good luck and good tie tying!

I'm glad you found the video interesting. Regarding the feature below the knot, the Americans call this a, 'dimple,' and some see it as a sign of superior style. *I* call it a 'crease' and wouldn't be seen dead sporting such an abortion - hence my advice to smooth the tie out, with the 2 thumbs. So, I really can't tell you how to form this, though I *have* seen a plastic device for sale which claims to do it for you. Try running a finger up into the middle of the knot! Thanks for the comment.
