Greetings and Gratitudes for your time and efforts. Question: What is your goal/purpose in the cardboard shaping?
@CasualCollisions6 жыл бұрын
The cardboard is used to keep the ice in place. Without it, the ice will fall off the shirt/fabric as it begins to melt.

It’s amazing!! What’s the difference between put the ice on top the powder and the powder on top of the ice?
@CasualCollisions4 жыл бұрын
Ice on dye = more detail/control over the placement of the dye. Dye on ice = more organic results

love this, may I ask if you are using round or flat sinew? whats better?
@CasualCollisions4 жыл бұрын
I use flat sinew. I've read various arguments about flat versus round and several posts/videos about how it doesn't make any difference. Personally, I prefer flat. But, I don't have anything to support that other than it's easier on my hands.

How do you launder your tye dyes? This was so sick! 😍
@CasualCollisions4 жыл бұрын
The first wash is with other first-wash tie dyes only. After that, I throw all laundry together. Yep - for three decades I've tossed white clothes in with any other color including tie dyes and I've never had an issue.

Is there a way to do this same technique but without ice dye? Can i do it with liquid dye?
@CasualCollisions4 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can do almost all of the ice dye designs as liquid dye. It will be significantly different in appearance; however. Here's a quick video showing the difference in the results from ice dye versus liquid dye: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpiooYlvZZqfpqM

Hi does the back look different to the front? I’m confused about only using on different colour?
@CasualCollisions5 жыл бұрын
Yes, if the back is not shown in the final reveal, it's the same pattern as the front.
@annaustin175 жыл бұрын
It’s just that you only put one colour on the back so I was wondering if the back looked different to the front. Thanks for replying

Can you use this same concept on pants? If you want them to be symmetrical on both sides, just do the wave design on both legs and pleat along the line? I hope that question made sense.

Yes.

So, any way of tie dying a chess board pattern or an ocean wave pattern on a shirt?
@CasualCollisions6 жыл бұрын
Wave patterns are relatively simple. I think you'd have better results screen printing a chess board pattern over a tie dyed shirt than what would be achievable with tying alone for a chess board pattern.
@aaronlaluzerne66396 жыл бұрын
Than you for your response.
@TrixInPix6 жыл бұрын
You could also heat transfer vinyl (HTV), Siser Easyweed, is very soft-at-hand, and light weight, so after application you will barely notice it.

What solution do you soak the shirt in before you dye it?
@CasualCollisions5 жыл бұрын
Soda ash (sodium carbonate) solution. I use 1 cup soda ash per gallon of warm/hot water. Once it's mixed you can use it indefinately. (Okay... it does evaporate and you do use it up as you soak shirts in it; but, you get the idea. It's not a single-use kind of thing.)
@mirandabaugher14366 жыл бұрын
How do you keep the green from turning yellow? I have soak my shirts in soda ash and did a spiral tshirt. I wash 3 times to get out extra dye and once i cleaned a stain with dawn dish soap.and then washed..all the green turned yellow. Any suggestions or tips on how to keep colors from changing
@CasualCollisions6 жыл бұрын
Did you use enough soda ash in your soda ash solution? The standard is 1 cup of soda ash to 1 gallon of water. What brand of dye did you use? Did you let the dye sit for *at least* 24 hours from the initial placement of the dye? Did the shirt dry out during the 24 hour batch time?

I love this, but it's hard to see exactly how you're folding this for 2 reasons; the speed of video, and your hands sort of obscure that process. Could you do a folding for beginners?
@CasualCollisions5 жыл бұрын
The last couple of months of videos are not edited tight - so the folding is all real-time and should be easier to see everything that's going on.

Why do you wash your work in a soda ash bath first.
@CasualCollisions5 жыл бұрын
Soda ash is a required step with fiber reactive dye. Without the soda ash, the fiber reactive dye will not bond to the cotton fibers and will wash out within a few wash cycles. With the soda ash step, the dye will bond permanently. Some of my shirts have been washed well over 100 times and they are still vibrant.

This technic looks insanely wasteful.
@CasualCollisions5 жыл бұрын
I purchase the dye in volume and the maximum dye cost for any shirt produced is $0.75 in dye. Shirt blanks are $1.82. That makes the total materials cost per shirt $2.57 or less. Using less dye results in less vibrant colors. Less vibrant colors results in fewer sales - at least in my market. So, the dye usage is calculated to maximize sales; thereby, resulting in no material waste.
