This video is so helpful. I've gotten a variety of information, often conflicting, on the subject, particularly regarding tightness around the ankle, and which direction to lace around those hooks. This video clarified everything, thank you as always!

Very good advice. So many experienced skaters still need to watch this carefully (not just beginners).

This is so great, I never learned how to properly tie my skates until last month lol so I’ve been skating with foot pain for almost half a year 😅 it seems so simple to tie your skates but it’s actually more complicated than it looks

Thank you for this one because I couldn’t skate or actually walk during 3 weeks in April because of a new skate too stiff and laced too tight. My ankle pain even kept me from fully pressing my foot on the ground… slowly healing now .

I’m so happy to hear it’s slowly healing ❤️❤️ it can be so painful when we tie our skates too tight.

Brilliant! Thank you for discussing this. I'm reevaluating how I tie my skates because I feel a lot of stiffness and fatigue.

I wear thin ski socks to keep my feet warm and dry. The ones with some ribs & textures (Kombi) to give some bites.

I’ve actually never tried ski socks. I’m sure they definitely keep feet really warm ❤️

I have slim heels and super weak ankles, so I have to tie my boot really tight around my ankles so my heel gets locked in the boot and my ankles are safe. Since I'm a beginner and my boots aren't really stiff, I can still bend my ankles. I kind of hope that i will never need stiffer boots, it would be difficult to protect my ankles but still be able to bend the ankles. 🤔

I’m the same, one heal is way too slim, I’ve been skating for a few years. I get you need to have space to bend but thanks to heal deformities I need to tie them tightly half way up! 😉

Maybe try a Bunga pad that could take a bit of room in the boot so it don’t slip 😉❤️❤️

Can u explain heat molding and punch out, and how theyre done? Where and how would i get it done??

Most ice rinks have a heat molder for skating boots. It helps your boot mold to your foot to reduce pain or blisters. You just have to check with your rink or if you bought your boots at a skate shop 😉❤️

What about pain on the bottom of the foot? My left foot has been hurting 2 weeks. I took a few days off the ice but it didn’t get better so I just skate with it hurting. It’s the bottom in front of my heel and then the bottom left edge. It feels like a bruise that burns and I often walk on my tip toes when I’m off the ice because it feels better than putting my weight on my foot. Do you think that’s skating related?

Go to a podiatrist. It could be plantar fasciitus, or just inflamed fascia. Either way, fascia takes months to heal, so see a doctor as soon as you can. Your boots might make the pain worse but they might not be the cause. I've had inflamed fascia on both feet for over 6 months now, caused by tight calf muscles.

I would definitely get it checked out as it might be bruised or something else. You just want to rule everything out as it shouldn’t hurt. ❤️❤️❤️

Hi good points on doing figure skate laces. For me a lot more issues with ankle swelling. Yes, your lacing points also work for my ankle issue. I also get to the rink EARLY to do off ice warm up and workout. This allows me to get my Riedell 910 Flare skates correctly tightened. Rushing it a VERY Bad Idea, I also make sure the laces are totally loose to allow an easy slip on the foot skating boot.. It takes about three loosen and gentle tightening to get boot lace tension correct, One point the ankle heel "Must" be correctly seated or trouble. I know if the boot is not loose enough I get a foot cramp. Thank you for posting .Kristy

My left heel already got thick callous but it still gets rubbed raw sometimes if I forget to put a bandage on. Even with a bandage, sometimes outside the bandaged area I get a blister - same skates, same socks, same insoles. The keyword here is “sometimes.” I don’t understand why it happens some but not all of the times. Any thoughts or suggestions? My skates are Risport RF3, by the way.

I know lots of skaters who have this problem. Can you try using tights? I know you have probably tried this but it’s worth giving it a go. I wear Edea boots and don’t have this problem. If you have a rink that has different brands of boots, maybe you could go a try on a different boot and see how it feels. I do know skaters who have switched brands of boots and it gets better. Maybe try heat moulding your boots? I wish I had the perfect answer to help you but you might just have to try some different things until it’s better. Maybe a Bunga pad? They have all different one that you can look at to see which is best for you.

@@nextedgetutorials Thanks for your suggestions! I tried tights and different materials of socks, and smartwool is the kind my feet like the most. I've also tried Edea, Riedell, Jackson, and Golden Horse before I settled on Risport, which I have heat-molded. I found folding my long smartwool socks over the heel, thereby having double layers around my heel (kind of like the Bunga pad concept) helps. Anyhow, thanks again!
