I have also used a 6" strip of kerdi band to build up the transition strip inside the shower (over a thicker bed of thinset) so it tapers nicely from the floor to shower tile.

From a design perspective is it ok to use the same tile on the bathroom floor AND the shower floor?

Not at all IMO. Just a lot more $$$. This stuff was $18 per sqft
