Great video tutorial. I’m fixing to do my first. I’ve been practicing with scrape for about 3 months. Now I believe I’ll make the belt.

Great video, thanks for making it. Could you clarify what the difference is between the camouflage tools and just regular border stamp tools? I've seen border stamps that have a similar shape to the camouflage tool you used here so I was just wondering what the differences were and when you should use one instead of the other..
@jakeufford73562 ай бұрын
I’m not 100% sure on the difference but they are interchangeable for this application. I think the camouflage tools have a crowned bottom where the boarder stamps are flat but I could be wrong

many thanks for the great tutorial, using your method i have just basket stamped a whole 5ft long belt... granted,, mine does not look as good as yours😀 but for my first attempt, i am happy ,, the next one will be better.. can you tell me what you stuck to the flesh side to prevent stretching please, ive tried regular painters tape, but i still got a lot of stretching.. best regards
@jakeufford73562 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it helped! I just use painters tape. I have found that it helps to put it on while it’s dry and it’ll stick better

I use the little plastic tool from Tandy that the swivel knife fits into to make sure I cut a straight line. I can do it without the tool, but if I make a mistake it lowers the value of the belt, plus it's faster.
@jakeufford73563 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to check that out! Thanks for sharing

Just use a normal straight edge as a guide
@MountainFisher3 жыл бұрын
@@mjbailey404 Kind of difficult to use a straight edge on a 40+ inch belt.
@mjbailey4043 жыл бұрын
@@MountainFisher Because it tips? Put another piece of leather same/similar thickness next to it so the straight edge lies flat. Make sure you leave a bit of space for the distance between edger side and actual cutting point, you can guess or sight that part. Usually pretty quick because I can just lay another belt blank next to it, set it maybe 1/32 off on each end by eye, then run the line
@RodricWeiland2 жыл бұрын
Awesome video and well explained. But hasn't someone invented or made some sort of embossing tools that are much larger / longer ie 3 or 4 inches long so that you can lay a pattern down an entire belt blank much more efficiently?
@jakeufford73562 жыл бұрын
Yes but it wouldn’t make sense for me to do that being a small custom shop only doing a few a month, it’s like the difference between driving and walking, driving is quicker but it makes sense to walk sometimes

@jakeufford73563 жыл бұрын
I would make it similar to a belt. So 8/9oz veg tan tooling leather on top and then line with 2/3oz Veg tan. I use grade A tooling leather from Montana leather company and then I get my tools from Barry king for stamping! Hope that helps!
@bobbywilliams7803 жыл бұрын
