Best $40 I've ever spent. Saves me a lot of time, even as a homeowner not an electrician. The outlet checker is a nice bonus. I hate turning off half the breakers in my house to replace an outlet or switch.
@jimharmon3404 Жыл бұрын
Nice job there but... the way the device works is that the device you plug in has a signal generator that injects the signal on the active ac line. When you turn on the detector aka "signal tracer", it is looking for that particular signal which actually is present on all active breakers. The trick is that the signal is strongest at the line it originated on. The tracer senses the strongest signal as you scan the breakers. You are supposed to scan ALL breakers first so it will know what the strongest received signal is. Then when you scan the breakers again it should only trigger and beep on the correct breaker. Also note that the tracer should be held perpendicular to the breakers. If you had a panel with horizontal breakers you would need to hold the tracer accordingly. I hope this helps explain how it works.

Thanks for the tip about sliding the wand on the box panel itself rather than the breakers. You would think this is common sense but a lot of people screw that up, including me, lol

I have a GFI plug that trips and won’t reset. I want to troubleshoot it but need to find the breaker it’s on so I don’t get electrocuted. Will this work if the plug is tripped/dead?
@davel821810 ай бұрын
explained clearly! wondering if the circuit lost the power and does this tool work for tracing the wire back to the panel?
@christianainsworth88217 ай бұрын
At the panel part Your supposed to first go over the breakers slowly for the tracer to “learn” the panel, then it should tell the correct breaker on the second pass

What’s the difference between the Klein ET310 and the RT250 testers, do you need both? Thanks
@Suckitdownpipe Жыл бұрын
The ET310 is for finding what breaker the outlet, light, switch, ect is on. The RT250 is a tester that lets you know if the outlet is wired correctly. It will display if it is correct or what the problem is. Also tells you what the voltage is and you can test CGFI circuits with it and it will display how long it took to trip it. It is the best recepticle tester in my opinion on the market and is the only one that I use. Check out a video on it. Hope this helps you.

Quick question for you please regarding the Klein ET310 circuit breaker finder. In my case the outlet has no power. Will the Transmitter still work to help me find what circuit breaker this outlet is on? Kindly please provide an answer. Thank you.

The tool needs the AC power to work, so it will not work on a non-powered circuit.

Does anyone have experience using this tool with an electrical panel that utilizes tandem breakers? Can it pinpoint the correct individual circuit on the tandem breaker device (hope this question makes sense :)?
@RK-kn1ud14 күн бұрын
@5:41 This is because you didn't read the instructions. The receiver has a glorified peak detector inside which is then referenced the SECOND time you run it through the panel. You need to relearn the panel every time the receiver is reset. Nearly every video on KZbin demonstrates this tool being used incorrectly. Maybe you can make an updated video and be the first electrician on KZbin to actually use the tool correctly! Please?

If I plugged the pronged tool into an outlet, and then ran the tester over another outlet, will it tell me if those two outlets are on the same circuit that way? Or does it only work from the breaker?

It’s only the breaker. Ideal makes one that does though. It’s their new sure trace

@americanelectrician oof those are pricy, found Klein tools et450 as well and it's still pricy for someone who will only need to use it once
@justinschreier4479 ай бұрын
The first run through the breakers is a "learning" run. The second will tell you exactly which breaker is the one you're tracing. You don't need to go off to the side like that.

Does this tool locate which panel the breaker is in if you are working in a building with multiple panels?

Not working for me. Getting false readings on a different breaker. Just beeping green when on the actual breaker
@JP-ec8fe3 ай бұрын
Same here. Ever figure it out??
@RK-kn1ud14 күн бұрын
RTFM. You need to relearn the panel every time the tool resets. This guy describes the phenomenon @5:41 but doesn't realize that he accidentally discovered what the directions tell you to do. The first time you run the receiver through the panel the tool is looking for a peak signal. The next time you match that peak signal SHOULD be the correct circuit branch.
@JP-ec8fe14 күн бұрын
@@RK-kn1ud I did just as the instructions say. For some reason, it always identifies circuit #12 in my house but never the circuit that the signal is actually being sent on.

What stood out to me was that you do a LOT of "going ahead and" - that is to say, you have an unconscious tic in your speech pattern where you constantly say 'm gonna go ahead and...". or "now we're gonna go ahead and..." Watch this video again, and count how many times preface your action with "...go ahead and..." If you want to be a better presenter - which WILL improve your hits, likes, shares, etc. - greatly reduce or even entirely get rid of the whole "gonna go ahead" thing. You can substitute such phrases as, "So now we're going to take a look at...", "Once we've done that, we can switch over to..." and other ways of verbally transitioning between descriptions and demonstrations without sounding so amateurish. Also, don't shoot the messenger.
